Does reporting people actually do anything?
Yes, but we don’t know what the punishment was if any. It might have been anything from a warning to a day ban or more depending on prior violations.
Honestly, we don’t know because the moderators won’t share such information because of privacy issues.
If I understand correctly, they start by issuing a warning. A second offense may lead to more serious punishment. Repeated offense may lead to a perma-ban. Don’t take any of what I just said for fact, as I have no good source for any of that.
The first suspensions for language violations are normally 72 hours if I recall correctly. It could be the person served their suspension and is now back in the game. If said person continues to violate the rules report them again.
I reported someone for spamming racist words in /say and /map all game long in a SPVP match and he’s still playing the game a week later.
It sounds like you’re upset the player didn’t get permanently banned for it.
As someone else said in the thread, behavior like that usually results in a 3 day suspension for a first offense. It’s possible the player was punished and their punishment was over by the time you saw him/her in game again.
As long as the player isn’t doing any thing wrong there is nothing you can do about it. There is a such thing as abuse of the report feature. If you keep reporting the player when they do nothing wrong simply because you want them permanently removed from the game, it will most likely result in you getting punished.
Bottom line is: report if they are breaking the rules, otherwise just let it go and don’t worry about it.
I would guess there is also a bit of a back log I recall having to report numerous people for weeks that were part of an offensive neo-kitten guild. Then again they pretty much do nothing about non-supported language based verbal abuse, as my home server at one time had a large Brazilian population that seem to enjoy immunity as they stuck to Portuguese.
I must admit, I thought the same as Charrbeque. Report it and move on. Keeping track of that player kind of screams vindictive, if not a bit obsessive.
All said, I promise you the moderators look into such reports.
We just don’t get to know how each report is dealt.
