Does the class loot change affect lvl 80s?
Not only a good question, a good suggestion. According to their desires the new loot system would be put in place for levelling. Once max level, in my opinion, it should no longer affect that character.

I wish it stopped affecting level 80s too, but so far ANet has been quiet. The examples aren’t as clear as they could be, but I was thinking it affects level 80s too.

I levelled 10 characters to 80 just so that I can enjoy every part of game in the way that suits me most. My main characters are light armor and really don’t get some incredible amount of drops on roaming. So I have my heavies do PvE events to feed them, so I can make armor for them etc. I do not like roaming on non-light characters. I do not enjoy doing events with other classes than heavy. I do not want anet to decide for me how I should play this game.
It’d be logical to make the effect strong at early levels and gradually lower it each level, to completely negate it at 80.
