Dog Heart in Caledon Forest
The low level starting maps were simplified a long time ago to make starting the game easier for new people. Apparently the new player retention rate wasn’t high enough and they determined that the game was giving new players too much information.
ANet may give it to you.
What Flesh Wound said, and yes you can’t turn into a dog anymore. Its a bit ruff but that’s how it is now, unfortunately.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
Thank you both for your generous replies.

That’s adorable. You’re adorable.
The one where you transform into a mossheart remains.
I wish they kept it too! I feel your pain. I went back to show a friend this heart, and was a little sad that they didn’t have the dog transformation still. It was a really cute quest!

You listen to some INCREDIBLE music, though.

Hey do you guys like Tony the Tiger? He’s cool.
I was wondering if there are any tiger quests in this game
thx
He’s aight. I know you can get a tiger pet if you’re a ranger! Not much in the way of quests though.
I’m sure ANet did their research, but I’m frankly staggered that making the starter maps more boring actually improves retention. I started as a sylvari, and the dog heart, followed by golem chess in Rata Sum made the world feel so full of possibilities.
Between this and moving all the activities to LA on rotation (no longer actually going to the keg brawl field to play), Tyria just doesn’t feel as alive as it used to.

They did leave the transformation, but they simplified what you need to do while transformed.

Not a tiger, but the Snow Leopard transformation heart is still at the start of Wayfarer Foothills.

And, like the mossheart transformation, they simplified it so you no longer have all the abilities it used to give you.
An Iron Legion charr named Esso told me they used to have tigers in their tanks, but gave it up after a legion reorganization. (Yeah, I know. Only ancient crocks like me will get that reference. The rest of you will have to google it.)

I get it! I feel old now, but I get it.
Personally, I miss the wolf transformation potion you used to be able to buy at the Wolf Shrine in Wayfarer once you completed that heart.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

Tiger tanks, as in the WWII German heavy tank right?
Also I hate my user ID.

You are very, very wrong.

Unless I’m mistaken, it still does.
However, there’s a lot less dialogue and you no longer need to do as much as before.
Now I’m feeling really old.
Thank you for making me feel young.
When was this a thing?

1965 ad campaign, on television. (Made the advertisement Hall of Fame so it’s pretty well known)

+1
I just happened to be by the RC Golem’s chess game the other day and stopped there to have a couple games out of a sense of nostalgia. I remember coming across golem chess game as a new player when GW2 first came out, and I thought to myself at the time how cool it was for Anet to integrate all these little mini-games and variations in play style for us to discover and experience. Thus, I was extremely disappointed to learn that the RC golems had been removed.
I then I went over to the cave near the RC golems where the heart quest use to transform you into a golem to “disrupt” the ground and kill the mobs but that TOO is gone. Now to learn that the dog transformation is gone as well!?! …..All of these things little, unexpected things made playing the game as a new player very exciting to me as it enhanced my anticipation and stirred my imagination of what-was-to-come as I continued my progression in the game. I looked forward to, “what would I discover next”.
I would like to see the research/findings that supported the discussion to removed these minor gaming elements as I too find it completely baffling and disappointing to learn of their removal
That very bafflement, I believe, is the cause of the many “too complicated” jokes that came about from the NPE.
Apparently turning into a dog when told that you would be turned into a dog and that said transformation will change your skills was ‘too complex’ for new players not yet used to their standard skill set, as is being downed under level 5. Or dodgerolling, one of the highlights of GW2 mechanics.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Those are back but in auric basin
I can’t find a link to it now but I remember at the time the New Player Experience (NPE) aka the September 2014 Feature Pack was released a developer commented that they removed things like the heart turning you into a dog and the need to pick up and use objects like water buckets on low level hearts because the overwhelming majority of bug reports, support tickets and other complaints they got from low level players was some variation of “I was doing a heart and now all my skills are gone and I don’t know how to get them back!”
I have to admit I remember not knowing how to put down a water bucket the first time I played, but fortunately (maybe because I have more than my fair share of experience being confused by games) my natural response to not knowing which button to push is to push them ALL until something happens (via on-screen clicking, because there’s less buttons there than on my keyboard) so I was able to work it out pretty quickly.

I remember reading a post not too long ago where someone was at the Fort in Queensdale (level 6 area) and was doing the centaur invasion event. One of the players was someone with a bucket who was running to the centaurs and “watering them.”
Now it’s possible it was a higher level player just goofing off, but my suspicions is it was someone who got to the first heart, picked up the bucket and then had no idea how to drop it (or possibly didn’t even notice. Some people are that clueless) and was running around watering everything.
ANet may give it to you.
