So a guildy of mine says they make 200g per day with flipping items on the tp. I simply dont get it though. I can’t even get 1 buy order filled, much less 1 thing sold. Let’s say “greatsword” buy order is 5 gold. I put in an offer that’s 5 gold 5 silver. Then multiple people make it 5 gold 5 silver 1 copper, then 2, then 3 copper. Same thing happens when I try to sell. I always sell it a few silver less yet people match my price and the copper thing happens again. No matter what I try it doesn’t work. I don’t understand what I’m doing wrong. I’ve tried random rares, dyes, named exotics (entropy, bonetti’s rapier, etc).

Just started playing again, played GW1 for several years, the only time I made money of the TP was once I ground my way into several hundred thousand gold.
Like the saying goes, you need money to make money. I wouldn’t even do deals unless I stood to make 10-50 thousand, it was never daily for me, but more weekly or less. Simply looking for really good deals and taking advantage of them by reselling for fair value. It took so much time I got tired of it very quickly.
If your friend says he makes 200g a day he should be able to tell you exactly how he does it, if he cant, he was lying to start with.

Divulging your markets is a good way to NOT make 200g a day.

I’m in no way an expert but don’t expect – though I made profit with low value items – the item you’ve listed to be sold/bought on the same day. Sometimes it takes weeks. Also recognize the volume of items you list. If you list multiple stacks at once there’s a good chance most of them will never sell in any timely manner, it’s a sign for other people to go way lower than you.
If you want to optimize it set up the buy things on late sunday/early monday. That way most people played over the weekend, thus generated more stuff, thus lowering prices for you. Sell before the weekend – or whenever prices went up if you like that. That way princes are higher.
You also have to invest time. It’s not about buying/selling one or two items. Usually you flip in bulk. For beginners food ingredients are the easiest. They are cheap and high in demand. Go through the items and calculate how much money you would get (some people made apps for that, but I don’t know any public app – I did however write my own some time ago when I was bored). The price you sell an item has to be over ~1.1765 (1/0.85) times higher than the price you bought the item (you get only 85% of the sell price because of trading post fees), and gw2spidy or something can give you an idea of the demand of the item. If you buy orders aren’t fulfilled at the end of the week cancel them and do new ones. Also the before/after weekend thing is just a rule of thumb to maximize your potential earnings, obviously you can buy and sell at any time. Also when selling stuff don’t be afraid if you got more of item x to sell to be cheaper than the last one – even if it’s yourself. As long as it’s over ~1.1765 times the buy price as said above you’ll turn a profit.
Cooking ingredients don’t give a huge profit, they are cheap as already said, but they are good to learn the basic principle and even just a few coppers profit times thousands per week is still a few gold per week profit (usually you can easily get a few thousand buys/sells for them a day even).

What kind of answer are you expecting? Is it possible? Yes it is. Will someone suddenly answer to this thread and give you 100% sure way to do it? No.

You seem to know the basic idea so you do get it. Now you need just patience to get more familiar with it.

  • gw2shinies.com has a section just for flipping — since lots of people use the site, you aren’t likely to make huge profits, but it will give you the idea.
  • also check out its section on skill point alchemy
  • most dyes (not the well-known ones) are easily flipped

As Ameepa says, the biggest difference between those who make 200g fast and those who don’t is being patient — that person might be making 200g/day, but they spent time figuring out the market first

Yes, and have to have patience to spend most of the day doing only that. There are no magical ways to make that kind of money fast (in minutes). It is more likely hours after hours to spend in TP every day.

Edit: and even if there was a magical way, no one is going to tell that
