For a thorough list of griefs, this poster has made excellent points: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Play-How-I-Want-Is-Gone

My decision to stop playing this game happened when I was waiting for Teq to spawn yesterday, and right at 6:59pm EST I received my first Log-In Reward. That’s right, I got rewarded just for being on the game.

A.Net is catering to the lowest common denominator with every update they produce. The new dailies system – they broke something that didn’t need fixing.

The end game sucks. That’s right, I said it, GW2 end game sucks. The leveling experience sucks. This entire game is just Gold Wars 2 – How fancy can your costume be? And the ironic part, my Macbook Pro can’t even run the beta-Mac Client at decent visual settings, so I never see other peoples elegant gear.

I wanted to give this game a chance, because I’m a GW1 vet and hoped for a good sequel. I was in the process of leveling my 3rd level toon to 80, but it is such a dull and boring process that I’m not even interested. GW2’s “end game” content is the same unchallenging, unrewarding stuff every day. Running Fractals gets old after about the 30th time you’ve done it, and only seen mediocre rewards. WvW is just a big zerg.. run and press 1, hope you get some tags. PvP… lol.

I joked a few weeks ago about A.Net making this game any worse by rewarding us for doing nothing, and that moment has actually arrived!

I blame the Borderlands style players. “I’m not getting loot every .5 seconds so this game sucks”. I suggest taking a break you can always come back even if its only for a little while.

Good luck with your next amazing MMO. You seem to have discovered an MMO-industry that we stupid people don’t know about.

PS. Now, this is not meant to offend you but I just want to mention something since I find the whole situation of whining annoying instead of giving realistic feedback. I have been here for a while, everytime a patch comes alot people starts to complain, reasoning that the game is dead and they would leave. Next patch, the same exact people do the same thing. It happens so much that I don’t think many care eitherway, there are those who believe GW2 shoul be heaven, complaining that it is more garbage than any MMO in the industry, and yet they stay here… to make themselves suffer I suppose.

I’m sorry you feel this way; you are not alone in these thoughts and feelings about the game unfortunately. I wish you the best, and suggest checking in on the game from time to time to see if it eventually develops into something you’d enjoy more. Hope you’re able to come back in the future, as I personally feel it’s sad to see yet another GW1 vet disappear from the game.

Chill out, take a breath, take a week to experience all the changes, then make a decision. Your 24 hour exposure to the new dailies is not enough to make such a big decision.

I’m very close to hitting the uninstall button myself. The issue is, for me, there’s just no other comparable MMO out there. Let’s face it, ANet has very little competition in the MMO market they compete in.

Instead, I’ll probably just stop signing in. Maybe one day these things will improve, but I know that will never happen. ANet has invested their time and resources into turning GW2 into… this schizophrenic handholdy mess, and I don’t think they’d change it back.

Let me remind you now, that during the ‘’golden days’’ of GW2, there were tons of people complaining and whining about how they need a CHANGE. Now, alot people seem to believe that what they think is good, should be worked on by Anet. Not realizing, that Anet is a company wanting to get profit, not a vocal minority who are old vets, complaining about their nostalgia days and if not, complaining about why the company doesn’t work to make them happier.

The game is casual and the MAJORITY of the players are casuals. Alot of these casuals do turn into vets eventually too. Meaning, that as long as the changes are good for the casual/new people, it is profitable and therefore good for Anet. There is nothing called ‘’I am a vet, if I leave the game will die’‘. People said this 2 years ago and the game is still going. Even if GW2’s population goes down by half, it will still be profitable and a single expansion would bring in millions of dollars.

This game is pretty much the most commercially successful title in the western MMO industry since WoW. Since no MMO have gotten the same commercial success and popluarity via release as GW2, Anet doesn’t really have that big of a compitition. Quality doesn’t matter by this point, the game is too popular and will be profitable for at least 3 more year. All they needed was a successful and hugly popular release and they totally got it.

Thanatos, your reply is very sensible. I am immediately sending the message to A.Net by not logging in anymore. I might check back in a few months to see if the game has improved – likely not.

Since I started playing back in late-April 2014, the game has progressively gotten worse with updates. I’ve watched well-working systems get revamped into worse products on this game (such as the new Dailies). I don’t recommend this game to anyone at its current state.

If you’re actually going to quit, you’ll prove it by giving away all your stuff. Otherwise, quit being such a drama queen and try to enjoy the kitten game.

Or, you know, just stop playing for a while, and come back when/if you want to. And don’t pretend that you not playing makes a difference to anybody.

Ugh. I’m sorry, but good riddance. Obviously, OP, if you had that much issue with the game being “that bad” to begin with, you honestly should have left a very long time ago.

Good luck with your next MMO. Hell, perhaps you should program your very own so you have exactly everything you desire.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

I really loved the game at Beta. Loved it a little less at the release but loved it all the same. As the year has come and gone, I play it less and less. There is nothing that really drags me into play. For the last 6 months my only motivation was my legendary and that has stopped being enough to give me interest.
I am not ever going to be a huge fan of WvW or PvP primarily because I see the potential WvW could have had and how short it falls on delivering. PvP just has never been a thing for me. I think it is great that the game has these points for people that like that sort of thing though. It gives it variety. The problem I see is that it sometimes feel like the developers want to shove everyone into one direction over another periodically and some of us aren’t interested.
It is disappointing how specific functional things have been pointed out time and again and ANet delivers on the fluff but chooses not to address other concerns effectively. (Commenting to please consolidate all the concerns into a single response time and again is not effectively addressing anything). We were promised the ability to play how we want and choices being what they are, sure we could but those that don’t play in accordance to how they would prefer us to play are shorted. We have seen the potential for contextual flavor taken out of the game entirely (charisma, ferocity, etc) with no explanation. The whole “how you play impacts your environment” also never materialized.
Instead we get skins and more skins and more skins and please buy this shiny in the gem stores and ooooohhhh look at our new monthly subscription game.

I came because I loved GW1 and I saw so much that I loved about GW2, of which little remains. The level gating, the goofiness of the trait acquisitions, the treating of starting players like they are idiots, and acting like we are all ANet’s personal ATM has destroyed it for me. Please make the game challenging and bring back some of the greatness it once had. Now, it is just disappointing.

I’m also a fairly casual player, and the game has appealed to me less and less as time has gone on.

It does bother me indeed. I wish Anet have made the game better (according to my preferences). I wish I can see more zones, better balance, more diversity and would rather not see old concepts getting changed, in many cases, to the worse. However, I also don’t believe that the solution is to sit and complain, threatining the company by leaving the game and telling all your friends to not buy it.

I am not directing that to you apparently, but speaking in general, that alot of the ’’feedback’’ threads rather create drama than actually solve the problem. These threads seem to also motivate Anet to change old concepts all the time where some of the systems have been re-worked mutliple times by this point. It is fact that the company and the players should understand: the community will never be happy with the game. There will always be people disagreeing with others.

So I wish there would be more feedback threads rather telling Anet to go forward than keep on changing what is already there. I believe the game could be much better but it seems we are just stuck at re-working the systems over and over again and everytime there are complaints. Quite frankly though, everytime something new introduced (no rework) we usually hear this: ‘’It is good but too late, they already ruined the game. Instead of adding new stuff, they should make their old systems better’’.

Being here for a while, I believe that being too negative will rather take us backwards than forwards. The whole ‘’I am gonna leave, what are you gonna do now?’’ never works. This is not a gameshop in your street but a multi-million gaming studio with a game generating millions of dollars. As long as no catastrophe happens, all the ‘’angry threats’’ don’t really lead to the puropose they were made for. We have seen it in GW2 for the past years and in other MMOs for tens of years.

Instead of taking hours to comment hatefully on every thread in GW2 forum, maybe come up with an idea, maybe it will be useless but you are wasting your time eitherway. Maybe a voting with people introducing their opinions? So at least you would have an argument to be supported. Yes, we usually hear about ‘’hundreds of comments on a complaints-thread, listen to us!’’ but when checking the thread, the comments are usually about people fighting about what they want. You hardly see anything that people agree on and therefore blaming the company later on seems useless, eventhough the complaints may hold alot of truth.

Rewarding us just for logging in is bull. I agree on that.

Giving constructive criticism you will find goes much further than posting a topic saying you are quitting the game over the changes.

Anet does listen to the complaints but only if it gives good points why something is bad instead of just a rant on how much you now hate the game.

For example, when the NPE came along and unlocking the elite skill slot was moved up to level 40, people voiced their dislike on it and it got moved back down to unlocking at level 31 (or 30 I forget). Same thing with the new level requirements when it came to unlocking all your traits slots. People dislike it and gave points why it was a bad move to have all your skill slots not be unlock until level 40 and that to got changed.

Kill stuff to unlock weapons skills, most confusing thing I ever heard of. (sarcasm)

Did you know I’ve spent about $50 on this game? Right now, I’m sitting at 3089 hours of play (I don’t AFK). So that works out to $0.0162/hour of gameplay. A nice value if I say so myself.

No, they have to be good rewards that you have to work for but without having to grind or do anything too difficult for (but not too easy either), and it has to give a sense of progression without being actual progression (gear grind is the biggest evil on earth), while bringing in new players and getting veteran players to return (so population is high), while appealing to pve/LS/wvw/pvp/dungeon/fractal fans, while also fitting into the lore, all while avoiding gemstore items as much as possible but without ever charging a subscription fee.

I dont see how doing that should be so difficult.
