Dont like any profession..
how high have you gone with each prof? I found I really like several that i didnt think i would. Now I have fun with every one but necro… maybe i’ll come back to necro.
I can relate. Ranger ended up seeming to be ‘the best of a lot of unappealing options’ for me though in some ways I now prefer Warrior… Still don’t really like any of them though. :-/
A shame fun things could not simply be fun.
I can explain you why:
In GW2 they pretty much removed the biggest customization features ( gameplay wise ). In Guild Wars you could pretty much love any class, since you could duo-class and play pretty much anything you want on it. In Guild Wars 2 your choices are extremely limited, melee is only really useful in specific circiumstances and most of your skill bar cannot be changed. There is no energy specification and all buffs and debuffs are streamlined towards a few generic ones.
You’re now forced to be a jack of all things rather than being able to CHOOSE what you want to play. In GW1 you could choose to join the holy trinity OR be a jack of all trades, heck you could even heal and support your party with a N/Rt or N/Mo. In GW2 you do not have that choice, you are all forced on a singular option to make pugging easier, and in the end making every class feel the same. The removal of an essential mechanic ( energy ) does not help either.

That’s not really true.
Care to explain? There are legions of GW1 veterans who agree with this. A lot of new players are hyped up at the start, but the decline has already began, a much faster decline than GW1 ever had despite not being such a mainstream game. I am a high ranking PvPer in GW1 and we managed to earn a gold cape, you could say we were quite dedicated to GW and really looking forward to GW2, but it seemed to streamline all the revolutionary elements of GW1 into a more MMO-like formula. This literally killed off a lot of the customization features as a specified. I doubt there is any way around this since they are just plain facts as-is. Being able to dodge and jump will never make up for all the things that were removed or made easier ( tactical positioning vs attacking and moving ), etc.
I think it says more about you, then it does about the game. No offense meant, just something to think about.

I have the opposite problem. I love too many professions, and I can’t choose a main.
I have several classes I love to play, and a few I don’t care so much for.
If you don’t like any of them, game might not be for you.=s I don’t see how you can’t like any of them, though. They all play pretty different.
I’ve had fun with most of the classes I’ve tried … maybe try swapping out skills and weapons to a different combo? I know combat for some of the squishy classes like Thief can be hard early on if you’re not working to your strengths – but once you make it through the first shaky “getting to know you” levels it gets better.
Unlike a lot of games were I start having less fun as I get higher level, I keep finding new ways to ramp up the fun as my levels fill out, so the first few levels aren’t going to set the bar for your entire time.
What kind of characters do you like to play? Maybe we can find you a good match.
I’m sorry I stepped outta yer box, don’ worry, if
ya whine enough they’ll put me right back.
They should introduce a chef class. No, not just a crafting profession, but an actual class. Obviously, it would wield knives and some other weapons, and it throws foods it made to inflict certain status effects.
I’ll echo what Jack suggested. I tried several professions and had a hard time finding one that “fit”. Key to finally finding one was trying out as many weapon combinations I could find and building from one(s) that felt good to me.
Once I find my “niche” with the profession, I enjoy it a lot more.
Try being a grown up and not spending your time doing something you don’t care for.
Provided you have leveled every profession to AT LEAST level 20 and played around with traits and such. And you still don’t find it enjoyable, then you probably won’t be able to enjoy the game.
This is true. None of the professions FEEL unique or fluent enough. They lack the “charisma” lol, don’t know how to define it.
I don’t feel like I can do enough with my profession.
If you tried them all to at least level 15-20 and still dislike them, then it unfortunate. While I grind my teeth on some aspects, I enjoy most of the professions, some suddenly became more interesting to play around level 35-40 >.<. That’s a bit sad because a profession should be fun from the start and finely tune itself with levels imho.
My main is a thief, even though I was having fun before, having a blast only started once I reached level 45+ lol. My warrior on the other hand was fun from the start but is so powerful it takes away all challenge and fun to play.
I guess you need to figure out what makes a profession fun to you. Sometimes it’s also real life blues that leaks into the game. I know when I’m feeling down, playing any games won’t help cheer me up, I’ll be grumpy anyway rofl

Being grown up usually means doing a lot of things you don’t care for. Like cleaning up after the kids, working to put food on the table and a roof over your families head.
Certainly all grownups would rather play MMO’s all day, but the realities of life don’t lend well to that lifestyle for most people.
As for the OP:
I have one of each class. Some days they feel foreign to me and I just can’t get into them and other days they seem to flow and everything just clicks into place.
I try to rotate through them so they all progress but some are a tad easier to work with at certain levels. Others just seem weak and difficult to play at times. I try to keep the weapons and armor up on those to make it a tad easier.

I have to disagree, all professions I have started feel totally different. But back to OP, in case you do not enjoy playing any of them, then maybe it is really the game as such you dislike – which would be perfectly fine, there is no guarantee for every game being enjoyable by everyone.
This thread is a prime example of the toxicity of MMO forums in recent years.
Just over a month and we’ve gone from this is amazing to this could be better to I don’t even like this at all.
Which, if you’ve done the research and arrived to this conclusion after giving the game a fair chance, fine. But if you guys got here because you’re letting forum people convince you that you don’t like the game, you should probably stop being parrots and sheep and start being humans. Make your own decisions.
Having fun with a flawed game? Good, that’s what matters, and they’ll fix the flaws eventually.
Not what you expected to be? You didn’t do enough research. Sorry for your shortcoming, but if you guys are really taking your time investment so seriously, you might wanna do it based on research and not hype.
Not having fun? Not everyone will. Why are you still playing? Why are you still reading the forum?
Get over yourselves, people.
Priorities, what to do?
Spend hours with dye

See the bold part? This is exactly what proves the toxicity of MMO forums. People that feel entitled to the fun that the game has to offer, like you did just now.
Ok, so you wouldn’t like more classes or more skills? You wouldn’t like new weapons (aka also new skills)? You wouldn’t like anything new, because you enjoy everything as it is right now? Right?
Seriously, what’s wrong with you people…are you afraid of change so much?
People are not opposed to more classes and more skills, but opposed to statements like “every class plays the same” – which is a ridiculous claim when you take it out of the realm of the abstract into the factual, an engineer plays exactly like a guardian eg.??? Also, many of us so called “fanboys” are kinda fedup with people complaining for complainment´s sake, some of which actually allready announced leaving the game, but still throwing their bile at people who actually find the game enjoyable, with all its shortcomings.
Suggestion #1: Pick a profession and STICK IT OUT until level 20-30. You will have quite a few skills unlocked and you can START to play with different builds. If you make a bunch of characters, level them to 10 and decide you don’t like them .. well, that’s not good enough. It’s like walking by a restaurant, peeking inside and deciding you wouldn’t like anything there (people do it.. but it doesn’t make it right).
Let me point out some of the positives of each profession, maybe get you inspired a little bit:
Warrior: Giant weapons, heavy armor, face-smashing awesomeness. Although many choose to play a warrior with a bunch of passive signets, you can run with shouts and banners, adding great utility to an outstanding damage profession. You can easily use both melee and ranged weapons. Truly an awesome profession.
Guardian: A phenomenal as seen by the sheer number of guardians in the game. You shouldn’t let this dissuade you, however, because it’s an MMO and if you pick a profession based on what others pick, you’re not going to pick anything. Able to use heavy smashing weapons or magic weapons, you can play guardian in a variety of ways. Your survivability is through the roof and you can easily switch from heavy damage to support at a single weapon swap.
Ranger: Not just for bow wielders. Ranger has a truly diverse set of skills that allows
them to adapt to many situations. You can choose between long range, medium range, and short range, all while maneuvering around the enemy to avoid getting pummeled. Although I was initially turned off to pets, I found them to be a great asset and fun to use.
Thief: The ultimate hit-and-run king. Stealth, in past games, has always been a fairly boring mechanic. You sit invisible, waiting for the perfect moment to strike someone. If it goes poorly, you can sometimes just stealth away. Here, stealth plays a much more interactive part in combat. Your stealth comes in short bursts which can be activated at the right time for both offensive and defensive glory. Traps and teleports add to the fun factor of this profession. You can also wield guns and bows to switch it up and their weapon combos (main hand/off hand) are incredibly fun.
Engineer: A bit of an odd duck profession that I feel still hasn’t reached its prime, but the potential is limitless. Weapon kits allow you to adapt and react to any situation. The engineer is given the tools to control combat and explode those who don’t like it. It is easy to be discouraged with this profession, but if you stop worrying so much about it, it makes it much easier to enjoy it.
Elementalist: Master of elements. Similar to the engineer’s kit swapping, the elementalist will be swapping to different elements fairly consistently based on the need. I don’t have a lot of experience with this profession as I’ve only played it to 18 or so, but I did find it very enjoyable to master the elements, know when to use each one and how the combos between each element are utilized.
Necromancer: A very awesome profession that I’m glad ANet decided to implement. Not a typical ‘sit back and nuke class’, the necromancer plays with many different styles of abilities, many focused on ground-targeted AoE. The weapons choices are pretty awesome and you can choose to play the necro at a distance or melee range. Pets are not required for this profession, although they are absolutely an option. A very diverse profession that has very fun mechanics.
Mesmer: Level 1-10, this profession may feel very clunky as you get used to the idea of illusions. After you’re comfortable with them, this profession really starts to shine. They have some pretty amazing weapon choices and easy to use combo fields. Although the illusions are a pretty big part of this profession, as you level you do not need to focus directly on them. Also, this profession gets some pretty awesome skills. Being able to create portals, go stealth, give your whole team stealth or quickness.
Why don’t you tell us what professions you’ve tried to what levels and why you didn’t “love” them?
No one can tell you what to play, but if you start questioning yourself at every turn, making a new character every day hoping that one day you’re going to love every single aspect of it at level 1 .. you’re not going to play this game.
Suggestion 2: Don’t create a character, enter the mists, and try to PvP to figure out the profession. It works for a select few people. For the rest of us, we get frustrated and hate the profession.
Suggestion 3: Stop reading the forums. People come here and just kitten ENDLESSLY. In every profession forum you will have 80% of the population claiming the profession sucks and all others are better. If you still want to read the forums, stop taking what everyone says so seriously. People exaggerate way too much here. Take it all with a grain (or a pile) of salt.
Let me point out some of the positives of each profession, maybe get you inspired a little bit:
Thanks for doing that Mongo; I’m hoping the OP is serious about wanting to find a class he likes and this will help him a great deal.
