So the launcher says August 14th. The website says August 11th at the beginning of the paragraph and August 12th at the end.

Anyone know which one it is?

Lol. I saw that. Needs editing. You could make an argument for each of those times really. Just have to wait for it to be corrected.

Only anet would release an item that you buy with gems(real world money in some cases) that has 15 keys in it then just days after that is done make this happen… not buying gems anymore after this.

Gave up buying Gem many many months ago—used to buy 2000 gem cards an a regular basis to support the game. I don’t support their decisions and direction anymore. They are giving me more reasons not to buy them again. If I really need something (really really need) or something that will actually enhance game play or is useful, then I will convert gold.

Thanks for reporting this. I can confirm that the dates in the blog post are correct and we will be correcting the launcher to match soon. The added chance for Black Lion Tickets is through August 11, not the 14th.

Here’s a cooler idea.

Stop catering to people with gambling addictions, guarantee a chest drops one ticket scrap at the very least, and make it a permanent change.

Until then, you won’t see one red cent from me on Black Lion Keys. Try again.

I got sucked into the previous key deals as well.

Then someone pointed out that with the standard drop rate, you would need 45 keys to get 10 scraps. You can get 50/4200 or start with 25/2100 and add five at a time for 450, totalling 3900 gems. That’s $60 or $50 depending on how many keys you want, or something in the neighborhood of 500 gold if you are buying keys with gold.

On the flip side, you could spend $10 on gems, convert those 800 gems to gold, end up with something like 80 gold, and voila, you have enough to buy one ley line skin, all of which are sitting at around 60 gold.

Are the extra garbage items that you get from the chests, like 50 luck or a speed booster, worth the extra $40 it will cost to acquire that single skin?!

I’m with you. But for every two keys you and I refuse to buy there’s someone else who buys three or more. The system, unfortunately, isn’t going to change.

Players not wanting to participate in a game of chance (what BL keys ARE) is a choice that every player has the option to make. Suggestions on what changes would make you consider participating are (I’m sure) welcome by Anet. Projecting moral outrage at the concept of gambling in general is just wasting your typing skills and time.

Some of you fail to realize that without RL money gem sales, the entire game would shut down. Whether you like it or not, Anet must promote gem sales to keep the game active. It’s just a fact of the economic model they have chosen to finance the game.

It’s 100% optional to NOT help finance the game by not buying gems or playing another game that does not have an economic model that “offends” your sensibilities. I personally find the concept of paying a monthly fee to play a game abhorrent and will never do so. Each player has their own “line in the sand”, they will not cross and that is part of being an individual. Trying to apply that individual belief to a wider audience (or the entire game) is just narrow minded and implies a rather self centered point of view.

Note that there IS another option to obtain BL keys than buying them and Anet has repeatedly stated it is NOT considered an exploit.

I’m not particularly bothered by RNG in and of itself, but if I wanted to spend cold hard cash for a game of chance, I’d be buying lottery tickets. If I’m dropping money on a game, I expect to get exactly what I want.

Anything less is unacceptable. Therefore, I will not support Black Lion Key purchases. I already know tons of people do, though, so I’m not going to get what I want on this score.

If you want the black lion weapons, buying keys in hopes to get lucky is still the most expensive way to do it. The drop rate of scraps and tickets from black lion chests is still so bad that it is much too expensive to buy keys. I still refuse to buy keys as I hate spending money on random items.

Plus, 5-7 tickets for old skins… really? That’s like 300 dollars worth of keys. What genius came up with that idea?

(…) What genius came up with that idea?

This is all about numbers. You still sell more keys and you give others an incentive to exchange gems to gold. It will only change once the majority resists buying keys. But that’s like saying “hey everyone, don’t buy gas today!”.

I’m not trying to be negative, but “double of nothing” was my first thought, I almost chuckled.

“Whose Kitten is this?” – “It’s a Charr baby.”
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”

Oh I know they expect to sell more keys, but who even tries to buy keys for a 5 key cost item? Seems beyond insane to even try unless you have hundreds of dollars or thousands of ingame gold laying around unused.

The “double of nothing” is hilarious.

I tend to agree with this. If 4 tickets were max and most items were 2 or 3 tickets, I’d be putting a lot more effort into opening BL chests. Then again, I’m not BUYING keys, so not sure changing the status quo would increase Anet revenue.

Oh look, 2 lottery tickets for the price of one!

Err….not quite an accurate analogy. Lottery ticket = BL key and they are NOT selling 2 BL keys for the price of one (that MIGHT make me consider opening up my wallet).

I spent $200 on patch day and now a week later they have this promotional deal now, and oh by the way I didn’t get anything worth the $200 (was hoping for endless monkey king tonic or permanent hair style kit.) Gonna step away from this game for awhile in the mean time Firefall rocks.

Why buy when you can farm them! The big draw to buy keys atm i think its the endless hair kit all the endless items tend to make the keys worth a shot. If the skins where easy to get then they would not sell for much and you still would be better off just simply buying the skins with gold and not keys.

Until they guarantee 1 scrap / chest they wont see me spending a single EUR or Gold on BL keys.

But people will keep droping their currency into the toliet. Beacuse buying the skin off the TP is a spent money. If they find a ticket scrap ( or a ticket) in the chest is a WIN. That is what drives them forward.
