Double WP Fees
They will be nerfing champ bagS/event gold reward for the repair fee alone. Double waypointing for an world event, will actually be a full nerf on top of it, meaning everyone will loose MORE money overall.
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.
Is the hand quicker in the eye?
Are we mesmerized by the carrot in one hand whilst the other robs us blind?
Out of all the games I have played, Guild Wars 2 easily has the most gold sinks.
I think if you dig through all the details on the feature patch, all players will be poorer overall anyway.
Overall, its a definite nerf to every players gold/bank balance. You will have additional costs buying new traits/runes/sigils/jewelry, have to pay double waypoint costs occasionally, less loot in ALL champion bags, unless you are in a mega guild you can’t do world bosses as often.

Don’t forget that they found a way to make people buy transmutations more often through the Gem Store with their wardrobe changes.
Or that they finally managed to monetize a whole game-mode by tying your PvE appearance to sPvP.
Or that unidentified dyes will no longer drop in the open world and are being added to the Gem Store now.
It means you’ll have to walk in the zone, this will likely lead to more events actually being done hopefully

Don’t forget you could and still can post patch farm stones in pve, and that if your truly worried about uni dyes watch the price crash post patch. Anything else?
Honestly it would be more interesting if they were to remove all non contestable WP except for one and have to travel and do events to unlock the others
I have to believe that the people crying about the WP costs all come from large servers. This is truly a first world problem.
Those of us unlucky enough to be on the other 80% of the servers have had this problem for months and we never complained.
Of course, we also never went to Orr since there weren’t enough people to do any events, but that’s what this idea solves.

I don’t see the logic behind this yet. We don’t have numbers on anything, and everything you mention is speculative. You don’t know the costs of rune/sigils post patch, or what most of them will even be. Lastly, when I was poorer, if I got to the 2nd closest wp, I just ran there. I know that the guild I am in (that’s fairly large), we give 2 kittens about wp costs. I’d say let the patch hit, see what markets do, then begin forming opinions.
I’m not complaining, I’m just bringing up an unfortuneately side effect of the new system. If people actually do world bosses on these servers then the rewards will likely make up the loss, however if the system doesn’t work as intended there will be a lot of people losing a lot of WP fees for no reason. All indications point to it being a success because maps will be populated, but if they keep nerfing rewards or keep zerg play the most optimal option, the main discrepancies aren’t solved.

Well, its not easy predicting what the TP will do, but the most sort after runes/sigils will rise in price by a HUGE margin, that always happens…
We know the cost of the unlocks in spvp:-
2 jewelry pieces 10g each.
2 new rune sets (but perplexity has been pulled due to a qq thread on spvp forums, so might just be 1) 5g each.
2 new sigils 3 g each.
The only way to get those is by buying them with gold.
The Grandmaster traits are going to cost gold+skill points but you can unlock for free doing PvE.
I thought they meant if the Waypoint could be contested normally, it would appear so unless you were on that map. If every single waypoint in the game appears contested except the ones on your current map I’m leaving this game plain and simple.

Only Waypoints that CAN be contested will be affected by this change.
Most Waypoints cannot be contested, though Orr is the outlier since almost all Waypoints there can be contested.
@mtpelion That’s what I thought, but I was getting a little confused by all the people saying it’ll double the waypoint fee.
@Original Post Waypoint fees were pretty small beforehand, and it won’t cost you twice as much because you’ll be closer. At WORST it will cost you 5 silver at level 80 from Frostgorge to Orr. Not that big of a deal.
There is no reason for waypoints to ever be contested. It’s a useless mechanic and should simply be removed. Same thing for closed dungeon entrances. They should all be open all the time.
It will not double the waypoint fees, but it will increase them in the following scenario:
You are in Map A and want to go to Map B, Waypoint 7, which is a Waypoint that can be contested by an event.
You will have to go to Map B, Waypoint 6 costing xSilver, then once you are there go to Waypoint 7 (costing some more Silver, but not the same amount since the distance is less).

I’m seriously hoping that some of the people in this forum realize their characters can run places without having to pay any money.
“Oh dang the WP I wanted is contested, now I’m at the next closest. Darn you Anet now I have to pay more money to WP somewhere else, why oh why won’t they put in a system where you can travel short distances without having to pay money! Why ANET WHYYYYY!”
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
It would be much worst if you could only WP to racial cities and walk from there.
Honestly right now, there’s no place you can be that will take you longer than 2 minutes to reach anywhere else in game.
Even with the new system you’re talking about a short walk, the double cost is up to you if you think 30 seconds is worth 2 silver.
i can understand the problem here…but people are forgetting you can instantly sell any blue-green item for 2-5 S on tp..and you get a TON of them.
daily dungeon runs can give you over 20gold per day very easy
Spvp gives 10-15S each match
And everyone can “play the TP”
people are just lazy to work for some gold, and qq about spending 2s on a wp…
oooh Guild wars 1, how i miss your farming days

So, not much differene in Orr then… As most waypoints are always contested there now too…
Well, I can spare a couple of silver to join a map with actual players in them :P Also, you are not obliged to use waypoints, you ca mostly use Asura gates anyway (even to fort trinity in Orr).

I dont really see how any of that is a gold sink….. or really how its different in terms of monetisation to what we have now.

Ah, I remember GW1’s farming days. Inflation got so out of hand players switched to using ectos as currency.
I thought the exact same as you OP, this seems more like a lame tactic to tax you out more through having to pay the WP twice.
It’s not twice the price since it’s less expensive the closer you are, but more like 1.5 the price as it is now.
Its seems more like a disguised tactic to “compensate” the removal of repair (translate as : tax more players to reduce their income to “fix” the economy)

Only maps in the megaserver will be affected by the waypoint issue.
Sorry, this is totally wrong.
…we’ve decided to disable reporting of world state across maps entirely.
Is it true that they’ll be selling unidentified dyes in the gemstore?

Because we can’t be angry about both?

They have since launch, there was just no reason to buy them before now.
You can get unidentified dyes with laurels………
You can also craft most dyes.
I’m usually really sweet… but this an internet forum and you know how it has to be.

The WP fees are currently very small. As it is now, after a WP, I grab 1-2 nearby gathering nodes. This usually completely offsets the cost and then some. Grabbing 3-4 with the new system won’t be difficult and can offset the cost immediately.
This would just mean more people hopping into wvw and then hopping out for free wps
Honestly, I’m happy with much of this patch, and absolutely livid about some aspects out of it, but I can’t really muster up much feeling one way or another here. I have a hard time seeing how waypoints are really a significant expenditure for anyone as it is.
They are currently so small that at level 80, a single green or even blue drop offsets any waypoint within a map. If anything a minor increase would, in my mind, just serve to act as an extra gold sink, which is good based on the moderate inflation we’ve been seeing, while at the same time doing it in the way that is so small and spread out that no one will tangibly feel the impact.
Double loading screen is a bit annoying I guess, but not too bad. Really unsure why this is such a problem tbh. It’s so ridiculously easy to get gold in this game I haven’t given WP costs a second thought in more than a year.
If not for the money issue, which is what it’s all about, they could opt to let people waypoint to contested waypoints. Just let the crossed swords be a warning that “you may arrive dead”.
It will not double the waypoint fees, but it will increase them in the following scenario:

The minimum cost for waypoint travel at level 80, is 1 silver, 39 copper. So if waypointing to #6 would cost 2 silver, and another 1 silver 39 copper to get to #7. Waypointing straight to #7 would have cost about 2 silver, 20 copper. So yes its costing us more.
Let’s not forget that due to Captain Ellen Kiel winning the Captain’s Council election, Waypoints are cheaper than they were before. But I think to double the cost would be too much, especially for new players.

The way points were only cheaper for a short time.
