Back on topic, I have a setup that allows me to bind dodge to my right MB and my 1-attack to my left, and my movement keys to a D-pad on the side of my mouse, no need to doubletap.

Because when it gets hectic one frequently uses up a lifesaving dodge unintentionally.

I put it on my middle-mouse button, the left hand has enough to do as it is.

I find in most situations I only successfully dodge when I use double tap. I move with the mouse so hitting a direction with the dodge button is insanely clunky and awkward feeling for me. Doubletap works like a charm though.

I use double tap. I use the mouse to turn and A/D to strafe so I double tap A/D to dodge to the side. I have not had much trouble with dodging by accident. I think some of it has to do with my keyboard because it isn’t very sensitive. If I’m in a JP that I think might cause a problem I disable it temporarily. For me it fits well and minimizes the number of keys I have to reach for as I have most everything else programed into my mouse buttons.

I guess, I too am used to the “fighting”~esque games. I remember double tapping the controls on a PS2/3 controller to “dash” and it stuck with me in the computers.

Even though I use my keyboard almost entirely for my skills and movement, I only use my mouse for camera turns.

My “V” key uses Utility skill #2. And I have no other keys to put in for a simple dodge. (I could do SHIFT + V, as I am used to that, but I figured who cares, I’ll be taping 2 keys still anyway)

And yes, I do Jumping Puzzles with Double tap on.

Sorry for the typos….

I use double tap for dodging, too, mostly I guess because I never get around to changing it, and can’t be bothered to learn a new binding anyway. :p I’ve never had any problems with it, I never dodge from jumping puzzles or anything, and yeah. I have more problems with accidentally hitting R and V (my jump key at the present is C because my tab works only periodically, so I accidentally hit V a lot).

I’ve used it for a while, but at some point I changed it to (clicking) the mousewheel, because I often dodged when I didn’t want to. I didn’t have any difficulties with adapting. In fact, my fights started to feel much smoother and controlled. One of the reasons for that might be, that I now can dodge without having to stop running for a moment (you know… get your finger off the key, double-tap it, press the key again…). With double-tapping, I sometimes was unable to dodge in time because of that short stop in movement. And double-dodging was pretty much impossible to be done successfully.

I use double tap, just easier and more convenient for me than using a key. I did used to actually click the endurance gauge originally to dodge, but eventually moved on from that.

And I’ve done all but the Aetherblade JP and only probably accidentally dodged off the edge two or three times, it’s not really much of a big deal for me.

Nobody of any relevant skill.

Sorry, but it’s objectively inferior for your performance.

First of all, 2 button presses (double tap) take longer to perform than 1 (whatever key you bound to it). This greatly increases your reaction time.

Second of all, double tap overlaps with your normal movement, causing the potential for accidental rolls, such as if you need to quickly “fine tune” your trajectory. This results in wasted resources (stamina) and unwanted movement (the roll).

I.e.: There’s no reason to have double tap on. It’s a set of training wheels.

I use double tap to dodge. I’d rather press the same key twice, instead of pressing two different keys at the same time. I very, very rarely do accidental rolls, and if I do, it’s because I wasn’t paying attention. It’s simply a matter of learning the timed interval that triggers the dodge. Once you instinctively know it, double tap to dodge is easy to do, or don’t do.

If you don’t keyboard turn, you don’t even need to press the direction you need to dodge to. Anyway, I bind my dodge to “R” so it’s extremely intuitive to dodge forward and backward since the buttons are right beside each other.

No, I dont. I used to.
I failed so many jumping puzzles because of it, also it is not actually “instant” and you can get yourself killed if you delay the dodge even for half second (the time between the 2nd dodge, plus sometimes it can miss).

So I changed it to one of my mouse buttons, and never looked back. Click the button, and instantly roll back. If I wana roll forward or in left or right, I just need to hold the W A or D key before pressing the dodge button. Really easy to get used to it.

It wasn’t until I’ve been playing this game for months that I decided to turn off the double tap dodging. That was followed by a painful experience of changing by dodging habit. But in the end it was worth it because now I can dodge a lot quicker.

I recommend every new player to turn it off as soon as they can.

lol, some preconceptions I see.

I don’t have any problems with thieves and I play with an engineer build with an aim to have vigor up and refill my endurance as much as possible since I surive on “perma” Dodging.

And I have no problems with any jumping puzzle when it’s about fumble dodging, as I said it very rarely happens and that is two times in eleven months.

The only time I use keymap button for dodge is when I am going to do a dodge jump wich I learned from SAB

Now it’s time for my preconceptions then; People who use keymap button to dodge are not steady on their hands and always do mistakes by pressing wrong buttons and can’t see distances so they have to “fine-tune” their possition and are always slow at doing JP’s.
-I am joking though, it is just a playstyle and some are better this way or that way so you can’t determine if anyone is a bad player just becouse of this.

Since, according to your post bellow, this was directed at me: That only means they would be even better players if they didn’t.

Again, the training wheels dilemma. Maybe someone is really, really, good at riding a bike with training wheels on. They’re still gimping themselves and their performance will only improve once they take them off.

There is no room for discussion on this one. You can be more comfortable with it, and maybe you can even be good enough , but it’s an objective and demonstrable fact that double tap is just bad for your performance.

Also: Source please.

First of all, as funny as you think your analogy is, it is just way off the same. According to you dodging is faster = easier with a single key, doubletapping is unnecessarily slower. So, no, it is not a training wheel, but I can see how that makes you snicker in your own grandeur, so just keep on using it.

So, if that assumption of yours is that objective and demonstrable, care to share some of your valuable research data with everyone? No anecdotes, no “every good player I know…”, numbers, reaction times, recordings and sources. Well? Yeah, thought so…

I use double tap. It seems more intuitive for me because I use my mouse to move and to turn. I can then use my left hand to hit the keybinds on the keyboard that I need while moving. Maybe it doesn’t work well for others, but for me its the most handy to be able to keep moving while I fight.
I can’t say it ever really causes me unintentional issues with double tapping.
