Doubt about Toughness
You’re going to recieve less damage, yes.
The actual formula to dmg recieved is
Damage done = (Weapon strength) * Power * (skill-specific coefficient) / (target’s Armor)
Where targets armor is their toughness level combined with their armor type
I find on my survival builds I usually end up with around the 3200 toughness mark and it does make a difference. You will be able to take a lot more hits from single enemies and when fighting groups it buys you valuable seconds to find where your should be placed and what you should be taking out first/doing.
Don’t think you will be a tank or invincible tho. Also having high Toughness is only half of it, you also need a few extra heals through utilities as well as whatever regens you can get from traits/food/runes if you truly want to be a survival build.
Now the down side to all of this is that you will be killing slower and in some cases depending on what you are fighting it can actually put you at a disadvantage if you are not prepared for it. Example any creature that summons other creatures (especially those that can seem to summon a LOT of other creatures) can really be a danger. Such creatures are those dredge mining suits and both norn shamans and elementals.
Good luck, hope it works out for you.
Dredge Mining Suits and Krait Hypnoss come to mind. Risen Grubs to a lesser extent too.
The Champ Krait Witch in Timberline Falls summons Veteran enemies. That’s just unfair. :P
i was wondering if i get more than 1850 tough, do i get less damage or i nothing changes? thanks
Depends on your class… If you are light armor, you will still be hit like a truck.
It is counter against power so you need lot more if you not fighting guys with 1850 power ;P
well if you get 1850 instead of 1849, nothing will change. But if you get 1850 instead of 1000 much will change.
The damage taken formula is linear I think.
The difference between zerker gear and PvT is roughly taking twice the damage. Its easy to see on your own attacks. On my Mesmer I can hit up to around 1800-2000 with the GS auto-attack against zerkers (your build may vary) while I get as low as 600-800 on heavy armor/PvT/protection. Some of the extreme toughness builds can go even lower, but then again they hit like wet noodles and you kill them anyway.
Well if you have 1500 armor and increase it by 500 to 2000 you’ll take 25% less damage for example. It’s pretty ok imo, since healing “scales” with it too.
If you take less damage your heals will become more efficient. Same example: If you heal for 5000 you may take a hit for 5000 at 1500 armor. However with 2000 armor you’ll just take 3750 damage, but still heal for 5000 wich makes it stronger.
Formula for % reduction:
Old armor = A | New armor = B
100 / B * A = x% of the damage you now take instead of 100%.
example:
100 / 2000 * 1500 = 75% = -25% dmg.
