Umm I don’t understand why this isn’t a big deal to people.

In Player vs player combat:

Right after you down someone they are invulnerable for a full 1-2 seconds. If you switch weapons after you down them, sigil of hydromancy or whatever won’t hit them. But you can start the finishing (plant flag in their face move) while they are in the invulnerable state. In other words it doesn’t make sense, if you are trying to finish them quickly, to use any kind of attack that isn’t delayed or aoe….you have to plant your flag. UNFORTUNATELY, certain classes have delayed/constant aoe and others DON’T. This makes certain classes better at downing other players than others by their basic attack skills. Couple this with the class specific finishing skills of engineers/thiefs, mesmers……not all classes are created equally that much is clear. It’s cool if they do certain things better than other classes (like the thief!), but not when some of them do 90% of things BETTER than 1 or 2 of the OTHERS. You should be able to close some of the advantages that one class has over another with sigil/rune and gear changes…but this is another example where the game intentionally goes out of it’s way to prevent you from doing so.

This brings to the second component: The fact that certain classes have abilities pretty much automatically off cooldown as soon as they are downed. Do you have any idea how stupid and frustrating it is to fight a mesmer by a fortification entrance? You down them and INSTANTLY they are able to transport themselves through the entrance to safety, and the skill’s travel distance is definitely far enough that 97% of all the game’s aoe and ranged attacks can’t get anywhere near. Fight them infront of it and down them 4 times in a row only to have them escape instantly and heal, and then tell me you don’t think it’s stupid.

Then the last Part which is maybe the most important. YOU CAN BLIND PEOPLE WHO ARE IN DOWNED STATE! But you CAN’T IMMOBILIZE THEM IN DOWNED STATE. Do you have any idea how stupidly unfair this is? Try playing a warrior or engineer or something that has its only useful crapp, a single target 1 hit knockback attack, on cooldown when they are downed. You are screwed. Yet when you are one of these classes and you use immobilize on someone who is downed….they can move regardless! With mesmer, if you are good enough you should be able to use that 1.5 seconds of invulnerability to teleport your body to a safe place before someone can cast a immobilize on you. But nope, we gotta hold your hand the entire time and make sure you can pull off all your abilities unlike 1-2 other classes…. cause REASONS! And why do guardians get a giant aoe knockback attack (useful against rangers or anything really) when warriors get a short single hit knockdown “throw stupid hammer” WITH A GIANT COOLDOWN that is easily blocked by a pet or guard or illusion….or invisibility of any kind!??!

Mesmer’s downed state skill 2, which you refer to above, only teleports in a random direction. So if they’re lucky enough to make that door to the tower, it was a one in a hundred chance. Thief is the one that can teleport to where ever they want in a downed state. I main a mesmer in WvW, so this has frustrated me on numerous occasions.

Other than that, I agree with your post. Eles have that mist form scoot away skill when they’re down- why can’t that be negated by an immobilization? Or my mesmer’s random junky teleport, or the thief’s targeted teleport? I’m of the opinion that if we have an imob ready to go, we should be able to use it to hold that downed state player for a stomp. Stability works against the guardian’s knockback, right? So why not immob the downed? Is this logical? No.

Btw, duo Overlook lately? (That was me on my ranger/druid with you a few weeks ago at Overlook-epic cap!)

I guess I should get my mesmer out and test it proper. Yesterday a mesmer did it 3 times in a row by a tower. They weren’t even right next to the port entrance. If I have to ‘completely’ randomize the movement patterns it should be neigh impossible. If it really is random, I find it weird that every mesmer that I face has been able to use it to move through the nearby tower entrance.

And nah, I haven’t done anything as awesome since our two-man overlook takedown

mist form is a stun break

warriors get a worse knockback because they get a SELF RES

immob has always NOT stopped teles. Teles are a counter to immobs.

There are skills (your own tele) that let you stomp a downed if they tele

Everything is supposed to have counter play

mesmer tele is random

Downed state is surprisingly balanced once you’ve played all classes for awhile.

Guess I should play my ele more. Didn’t know mist form was a stun break. I got a lot of practice with downed state on my thief for the short time I played thief, then went back to my mesmer and felt short changed.

IIRC, downed #1 and #2 are always off cooldown the first time, and 3/4 have a bit of a cooldown before use.

edit: helps to finish the thought.. many of the downed #2/3 skills are “lifesavers” that either interrupt someone’s ability to finish or are able to restore health somehow.

-You CAN apply Immobilize to a downed player. It WON’T do anything to them though.

-Then they shouldn’t get mist form as an ability in downed state with little to no cd.

-Gl finding a warrior that can survive in downed state long enough to activate the self rez that has a 75% chance of instant killing them afterwards.

-Teleports don’t matter as long as they aren’t given instantly after u are downed.

-The skills that let u stomp teleporters are class specific. certain classes don’t have access to them which was the point of the thread.

-How to counterplay mesmer that instantly moves inside tower after getting downed 3 times in a row…..hmmmmmmm

Stuns also don’t prevent downed players from using their abilities. Aka they don’t stun. Add that to the pile.
