DISCLAIMER: I know that there are most likely many topics about a new race, and no, I am not a newbie to forums.

That aside, what would you guys think if they came out with a new dragonish race? The image that comes to mind is the Dragonborn race from DDO: Neverwinter. I think that’s be really neat to see ArenaNet add it to the game.

How would it fit in with the lore? Especially as dragons are the enemy in the storyline.

No. We already have the Forgotten and Elder dragons.
Forgot to mention the Krait too.

So in 250 years all oh glints children hatched, turned out to be anthrodragons and not full dragons and began to repopulate?.

Ehhh…a stretch, a far one. But tengu or another race already seen will be next, if at all.

A game where you can play as a dragon would be amazing. A humanoid dragon themed race in a fantasy MMO would be cool.

But it wouldn’t work in GW2. It wouldn’t make any sense with the lore we have on dragons and I can’t see them making any of the reptilian races playable.

I’d be interested in playing as a Krait or Forgotten, but I’d be extremely surprised, especially given that they don’t have feet. Maybe the Forgotten could wear boots on their second set of hands?

Despite ruling those two out, I wouldn’t want to see a third reptilian race introduced. We already have viable options that don’t have to be invented from scratch.

The way to get around lore is timeskips. Between gw1 and 2, 250yrs have passed. If they do change something then it’ll happen during that time. That way they can still say its true, but it changed once such and such happened.

And we know little on the dragons, very little.

Remember, there was a time when we didn’t know about asura, or norn, or kodan, or skritt, or those blue guys whose name I can never remember. So far we have been confined to a relatively small area of Tyria, and we really have no idea what might lurk beyond our familiar horizons.

The table is a fable.

Reptilian race more like.

Krait are possible, so are Forgotten,
but as Krait are following their cult like mouth to mouth spread unwritten religion of self-importance and genocide and Forgotten have just suddenly disappeared and not heard of for over 200 years, both have extremely slim chances…

As for Dragonic race, impossible with GW2 setup, (Glint was a good dragon, but it took alot of power from the Forgotten to release her from Kralkatorrik), othervise any other Dragon are always part of the Elder Dragons.
So far, all Dragons are huge, Elder and Champions that is.

Only champions which were simply corrupted member of other races, were about same size as player characters, tho slightly larger is more common.
This is not a good setup either, for “draconic” race, since there’s nothing draconic, other than the physical changes caused by the dragon’s corruptive power, rest is just same as any other playable race.

Unless ANet adds new species/race into GW2 which are draconic, but I highly doubt it, since every draconic species in Tyria are all part of the Elder Dragons…

I’m a casual PvE adventurer, I enjoy combat, adventure and helping, but not farming.
I rarely do PvP or Hard PvE, unless it’s organized.

It doesn’t seem that the skeletal dragons and Rotwing of Majesty’s Rest were servants of Zhaitan, so it is likely that there was a dragon race at some point. The dragon lieutenants of Elder Dragons might have been a result of corupting that race, or (in case of Great Destroyer or Mordemoth’s Plant Dragon) an imitation.

That saying, dragon-themed humanoid race seems unlikely.

Just to throw this in there, the bone dragons of Tyria were not at all related to the Elder Dragons, and the Saltspray Dragons of Cantha were not either.

They’re not related to the Elder Dragons whatsoever especially that you would know if you passed all the campaigns in GW1. In fact, the Elder Dragons weren’t involved during GW1’s time (except Glint’s hidden connection with them) until Eye of the North that revealed the Destroyers who later got revealed to be minions of a sleeping Elder Dragon.

There is in fact such a game. I have no idea what the playerbase is like or how the engine’s changed since I stopped playing during the first few months of vanilla WoW, but in this game http://www.istaria.com/ you can play a baby dragon and then do extensive questlines to grow and gain flight, as well as to gain a humanoid form to toggle so you can fit in buildings with your smaller friends. I RP’d there for a few years.

But indeed, I don’t see it working in GW2. (Never mind that now humans and charr are at peace which wouldn’t have been foreseen in GW1’s milieu). If we stay true to the lore, that would be like saying “let’s have a player race made of earthquakes or tsunami!”

Now, if storytelling in GW2 gets extra bold, perhaps Sylvari will have to deal with being dragonish … /grins

There were no such thing as “Elder Dragons” in GW1. When they decided to make GW2 they released an expansion that just said “Oh, well there’s Elder Dragons now, okay guys?”

When GW2 came out, they were also like “Well Glint is the champion of an Elder Dragon just because, alright?”

I really wouldn’t be surprised if they say something like “Well Kuunavang was really Bubbles’ champion! Ooh!!!”

You’re forgetting Eye of the North. They later revealed the Destroyers to be minions of a sleeping Elder Dragon once GW2 got released.

Actually, nothing says that the bone dragons and Saltspray Dragons are unrelated. We just have nothing that currently says they are related.

For all we know, the bone dragons were the reanimated corpses of old dragon champions (particularly Zhaitan’s given the presence in Orr). There’s also hints to an old dragon race that’s been more or less wiped out – which Glint may have been part of – which could be what the bone dragons were the remains of.

There were no such thing as “Elder Dragons” in GW1. When they decided to make GW2 they released an expansion that just said “Oh, well there’s Elder Dragons now, okay guys?”

And what would prevent ArenaNet from saying the Bone Dragons are related, like they did with Glint?

Though there’s no reason to believe Kuunavang or the Saltspray Dragons to be at all related to the DSD.

And the reason for making Glint a dragon champion is far better than “just because”. They wanted a crystal Elder Dragon and look, a crystal dragon existed already.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Exactly. There was no reason for Glint to be related to Krakky at all either aside from “crystal dragon”. Using Anet’s logic here you could say the Saltspray are related to Bubbles because “sea dragon”. My point is that they shouldn’t rewrite the story of every dragon that already existed in-game to make everything about the “elder dragons”.
