As I am sure a lot of other players these last few days I have been killing things all over the place while “farming” (for lack of a better word) coffers in the hopes I would get a tickect for a weapon skin.

While doing this I have had fun going back to old areas and just randomly moving all over the place to keep it fresh and not such a bore. Now while I realize we could do this anyways as level 80s due to the fact that we get CAN get drops appropriate to our levels I have to ask the question:

Should there ALWAYS be a similar item drop in the game that can have rare chances to reward us with things that are nice or usually not so easy to gain in game othewise?

Now before I answer this question let me just say that I have for a long time now found that monster drops were usually not that varied and usually well, pretty boring. In another game that I came from (I wont mention the game but no it is not WoW) they had several varied drops that kind of worked as these coffers do. Meaning that they can drop from most (if not all) mobs and contain chances at nice items and otherwise still useful items if not that rare item you want.

Let me tell you having such drops as these can really make a difference to how we can view killing things in the game anywhere and how one can “farm” and get their time’s worth even while not getting that item or items they are originally farming for in the 1st place.

So to answer that question now I think the answer is yes. To keep content ANYWHERE and EVERYWHERE in the game fresh and have a nice refreshing way to do that said content.

Why do I think these coffers are so great? Well even tho you mostly got candy, fireworks and other such things that not too many people cared about they were still WORTH something to other people who have uses for them. This is how I think any new type of a chest drop should work. With also still RARE chances at other nice things dropping such as those weapon skin tickets.

What would the possible drops be? Well I would leave that up to Anet to decide of course. Having said that, perhaps Tier 6 mats would be nice and something I’m sure EVERYONE would like. Perhaps as the rare items old tickets for older skins such as the Flame and Frost or perhaps even events from last year such as Halloween etc. The drop that you would get most often could be some kind of new currency similiar to the candy (no not a new currency that takes no inv space like Laurels) for a new vendor where perhaps we could buy things such as Legendary (altho these would cost a lot, perhaps MILLIONS) precursors or other such harder to get items.

Anywho that’s my idea. Even if something like this was not added I still think drops in general by ALL mobs need something done about them as right now I don’t know, I feel something is just missing….

Although this may seem like a suggestion please do not move this thread there as I am rather more wanting this as a discusion about the subject as a whole and not really trying to add a total suggestion.

I will have to agree that I kill a wider variety of creatures because of the chance a Dragon Coffer will drop. Seems like a good idea. =)

They’re a huge boon in WvW, for sure.

For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards,
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

Yea coffers have brought me back into WvW initially… And since my PC can handle it better with the optimisations recently.. Im a happy wuv wuver again.

As for the open world, I have noticed that I tend to move about more often AND kill more things.

Coffer drops also made me forget about screaming ‘boycott RNG’ to everyone i chat to as well. So props for that anet.

And personally… god i cant believe im even saying this….. I WOULD LOVE a perma RNG box that has a chance of dropping from everything in the game world. Make the chance at dropping slightly less than event ones with an extremely rare chance at dropping past events tickets.

Even better. Upgrade BL boxes to rich boxes (still need keys) and implement a BL chest that doesnt require a key and includes past tickets and other rare items. EVEN if its a incredibly low rate at dropping rarer items, that would still make me happier in terms of past skins and it would also increase the value of rich boxes for the TP.

Thanks for the feedback guys, perhaps even BLTC keys could feature in such chests.

I kill nothing because of the dragon coffers, I refuse to kowtow to anet’s RNG bullkitten.

The game would not be better if more RNG rewards were added.

Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro

Atleast what they have done this time gives you a pretty decent shot at said items for FREE. As far as I see things the RNG situation is getting slightly more and more better. Going with such a system as I discuss here I think would be probably the best we get with RNG still being in game, I really can’t see them changing now. After all look how long people have been against it and yet it’s still here….

Lastly as I said it gives a little something extra to killing mobs all over which I think is really needed.
