You need to join the map just as it resets. Use the LFG to join an active map if you don’t land in one.

That will tell you when reset is coming. Go there five or ten minutes in advance, check lfg, look for a squad that will act as a taxi when the map begins. That taxi of 50 people will pull in more to fill the map for an organized run.

You’ll have -plenty- to do. It’s fairly non-stop until the Mouth is dead and you’ve used up your machetes. Make sure to take a bathroom break before you go in!

It requires a fully active and coordinated map. Without that, it is largely dead space. That creates a double edged situation

either;
- a full map, with teams surging down three lanes doing various events, fending off large armies of mobs and some bosses, with some highly coordinated sub bosses just before a huge a boss fight at the end

- nothing but empty jungle, with a few mobs and nodes to farm. Good for exploring but that’s it.

Timing and use of LFG is the key. It’s poor design, but those are the tools to use

^this, unless your on the map at timer reset its a dead map. You can explore a little but the map needs to be active to really do anything. So yeah, if your not there at the start, its a dead map and a wast of space. It needed to me more like the silver wastes. As in player driven. The timers are just there to slow down the content locusts that would be running around with everything after a week.
