Dragonhunter revealed... meh

nvm, i found it ( I honestly thought this name was a troll to begin with):

The name would be more fitting to Warriors. Despite that, I’m still pumped for it.
This spec feels so random. I mean what does the guardian have to do with hunting. It’s a guardian, a knight, a protector, not a ranger with shiny arrows. And those wings. They connect to actually nothing with the current state of the profession. Seriously I’m disppointed.
I just… I don’t know…
Lost? Confused? [TCS] – A guild for every state of body and mind
I was kinda excited after seeing the concept art this week and after reading and watching the preview post… it’s just meh. First of all the name. It is so cliche, it doesn’t connect to the guardian in any way, like the name you think of when someone tells you “this is the game where you kill dragons, what would be the best profession?” “oh my god, a dragonhunter!” I mean… what?!
And the skills… just another boring ranger like.
I have the same feeling to bad guard is my main. I personally don’t think dragonhunter is a good name, when the dragons will be dead what are we going to hunt? But hey, we will have to wait and see.
Ok, it’s settled then : I’ll get to see what it’s like not to run a specialization build.
Dragonhunter… I’m disappointed to say the least. I was afraid when I saw the arrow pic, but this…
Guardians are supposed to be in the front line, not hundred of meters behind shooting arrows.
wut?! at least call it dragon knight or something.. i don’t wanna be a ranger wannabe

The Shield of Courage is a fitting skill for the guardian. The idea of shielding allies, and requiring some clever positioning. Only, this class seems to want to turn the guardian into a backline support class, which seems contradicting.

Guardian now a Dragonhunter? Whats next? Warrior a Paladin?
Dragonhunter sounds much more like a ranger specialization to me, and yeah it does not fit Guardian whatsoever imo.
@Zackie, yeah that sounds more like it.
Wow this is promising!
When we set out on the search for the guardian’s elite specialization, we looked for areas in which the guardian lacked a solid role.
This must automaticly mean they done the same to all other proffessions. For example, the Necro will be king of PvE dungeons after HoT, right?
Hahaha jk they are probably just trolling us. Hunter Guardian, lol what a concept.
They might as well skip all the hassle and combine everything to one proffesion – The Necrarriogineerguardiefrangemesmentalist. Specialize as you want!

Cleric Staff “healers” and now Cleric LB healers. congratz on the new bearbo.. ahem.. “holybow?”
Guardian now a Dragonhunter? Whats next? Warrior a Paladin?
warrior spec is gonna be called plant exterminator
Dragon hunter…. wow… NO please NO that does not fit at all with the game and epic naming of current classes…. why not something cooler more in line with tempest and chronomancer…. … Besides How can one hunt dragons???? if there are little real dragons.. must be one lazy procession :/ Hunting specific things is never a good name example xD I like the concept of traps ect… but why such a bad name that inclines you hunt 1 specific thing… must have been watching too much anime xD

“When we set out on the search for the guardian’s elite specialization, we looked for areas in which the guardian lacked a solid role. It turns out that wielding light and virtue as power sources is actually somewhat difficult to do”
not sure if serious :l but I’m still disappointed cause I was leaning towards melee specialized
Well guess I won’t be worrying about leveling up my guardian any time soon.

Ah yes, Warrior, Ranger and Engineer are all such awesome and epic names of classes…

Hey everybody keep in mind we can use the Dragonhunter with Melee Weapons of the Guardian as well.
I want to see the rest of the utilities and Elite skills.
Not so sure about Traps. Hope they group target at least.

So much this ^ they basically made a plate ranger, they even copied barrage, so much thought must have gone into that…
and that vid… I fired an arrow, I fired an arrow again…
This… is why Arena Net should have added a few new weapons. Warr, Rev, and Guardian would be ideal with a Spear/Pole-arm, and also a Javelin with a shield (like in Fire Emblem) which could be thrown from afar, or used up close.
Then some want poleaxes and scythers.
Ideally a weapon on a long chain which thieves could use, and Gaurdians could swing it at enemies whilst the other hand had the shield.
Not sure about this new specialisation, but I will give it a chance, I mean they’d have to have a reason for thinking this was okay to use.

yea man… spears tridents should have made it to land…
they should add more too … instead of chucking us ranger’s traps ….
i have no more hype left… my guardian in hot is gonna be ranger hunter taming dinosaurs with traps
I personally think it looks pretty cool.
Honestly, I’m just excited to see bows on more classes, but hey. No need to be so kitten it already. Who’s to say Guardians are supposed to be tanky, hammer-wielding knights? Obviously ANet thought they could work as a back-line support class, and what do you know, now they have the option to play as a back-line support class. That doesn’t mean you have to play them this way either.
It’s not like this is League of Legends, we’re actually allowed to have fun here.

Now it all makes sense, rangers have been asking for years to be able to play without using pets… so Arenanet thought… right we will give them Guardian Dragonhunters….
Why not call it WARDEN as that fits wih traps too :/

This looks actually good. The guardian didn’t really have a real ranged weapon unlike every other class in the game, so this is a welcome addition. Not sure what people were expecting, perhaps paragons with spears or a melee longbow and a 1hit button I guess.
Vigor-symbol on demand sounds very strong in a WvW and PvP environment, can’t wait to try it out. The virtues look interesting as well. Dragonhunter sounds good enough, it’s not any more generic than Warrior, Guardian, Thief or Ranger.
Will be interesting to see more about this class..
The name might not be fitting to be honest.
From reading the post though.. Dragonhunter still seems like a front line spec.
To me so far the spec seems more Guardian-like than a Focus/Torch/Staff Guardian.

It’s a good point. Now we can play LB/GS on a Dragonhunter.
I like LB as a weapon for them, but that skill that looks like Barrage seems too much a copy. The switching of the virtues to add a little different flavor is very cool. The traps seem a little uninspired.
I agree with the above posters. Land spear would have been a better choice. A way to shoehorn in a tiny bit of Paragon flavor. This “elite” spec overall feels a little uninspired to me though.
Rune of the Trapper.
Stealth Hambow coming at’cha.
I must admit I’m not as excited as I wish I were.
But well, I can’t love each and every class and specialization. I do hope some people will be happy to play the dragonhunter and I’ll be happy for them. I’m curious to see what’s coming next
Edit: when the first trailers about the professions released, I was sure I would never play a guardian. Well she was my first lvl80 character. So I’ll wait until I try it before I say I hate it

Hate the name. Love the concept.
How long did it take to come up with Dragonhunter?
Not long, I’m thinking.
Don’t get me wrong, the name would be appropriate for a Warrior or as a future Ranger specialization (After Druid). I could even see it being used on a Thief.
Sorry, but this name fails when attached to Guardian.
However, as a player who enjoys taking professions out of their comfort zones to experiment with from time to time, the idea of a back line Guardian sounds promising.
I just won’t call it Dragonhunter (/retch)
Rune of the Trapper.
Stealth Hambow coming at’cha.
I mean you’ll have to trait for bleeding, but I don’t think that burning and bleeding are enough to want to specialize as a Dragonhunter tbh.
As someone with 7k+ hours on guardian it looked like a pretty boring/useless spec to me.
Aside from the name (which I would have liked to sound more angelic or like a paladin or something) this is almost exactly what I was hoping for for the guardian. It’s what I expected it to be when I first started the game, but I was always disappointed that a guardian couldn’t use an angelic bow of some sort. I definitely can’t wait to try it out. squee x3
I’m 95% sure that I’m not going to use that spec.
I find myself underwhelmed by what I saw. I don’t hate it, but it feels lore-disjointed and the notion of a committed heavy-armor long range character.. That mildly rankles me.
Also, yet another long range anything just reinforces the concept that it’s okay for the devs to keep punishing melee.
So yeah, I’m actually kinda “meh” on it.

longbow is okay.
but TRAPS? Why would anybody choose to place immobile traps that you have to step on over staples like consecrations, meditations and shouts? Unless you can target them like wells, but even then…
Well they did just show off the wepon nothing about its other skills heals etc.. One thing though is a gurd that has a good fast ranges attk and a leep that seems key to the class.
Guild : OBEY (The Legacy) I call it Obay , TLC (WvW) , UNIV (other)
Server : FA
So, what’s with the name? Sounds ridiculous.
Overall, it felt extremely underwhelming.
Here I thought a couple months ago specializations were meant to give something unique and fresh to the game – to the existing professions, this one feels like they just gave copy pasted ranger and gave blue flames and flashy wings and decided it was good enough for Guardian.
Well, and here I thought I would start playing the game again, guess not.
I was expecting Paragon.
Dragonhunter is a pretty poor name. Maybe Centurion? Or Sentry? Legionnaire? Something guardian-like?

I’m 95% sure that I’m not going to use that spec.
And that is quite alright, they cant appeal to everyone!
I personally love everything about it, besides the name…it doesnt fit really, Warden would be better!
Super disappointed. Traps? Haven’t we learned that traps are essentially useless since the other classes that can use them won’t touch them? This is a sad day for me. Really wanted Guardian bow you know a real guardian ranged option, and now it is accompanies by useless traps.

Warden is a good name too.
But we already had wardens in GW1 (as enemies), and they would probably want to avoid any such connections.

probably eased the pain for me if the traps weren’t light fields, should definitely focus more on fire/burning

Connections to GW1? Like Chronomancer?
From the video it looks like a very slow play style.

Connections to GW1? Like Chronomancer?
Chronomancer was never a thing in-lore in GW1. It was planned for a campaign that never happened.

Though I think “Weed Whacker” would be better.
