Dragonhunter revealed... meh
I think it’s just too soon to judge the new guardian spec. But in the other hand, the video introducing the dragonhunter was horribly boring. Such a disappointment !
Guardian now a Dragonhunter? Whats next? Warrior a Paladin?
Actually I was hoping Guardian being a paladin, assuming they’ll fix the shield skills.
The
The thought process behind this specialization’s name is obvious.
Dev1: “So, what weapon for the guardian spec?”
Dev2: “What about a bow?”
Dev1: “Like a Ranger?”
Most of the room: “YEAH!”
Dev2: “We could give them traps, too!”
Dev1: “Ok, what do we name it?”
Sarcastic Dev: “Ranger?”
Dev with Sarcasm Flying Way Past His Head: “Yea… No, Ranger is taken. How about Hunter, then? It’s a lot like Ranger!”
Entire room (Sarcastic Dev has rolled his eyes and left): “YEAH!”
Dev1: “Guys, we have to be more subtle, or people will think the Guardian spec is just a Ranger rip off. Hunter is too close.”
Dev2: “How about then… Dragonhunter?”
Room: “PERFECT!”
Dev1: “Great! So dragonhunter it is!”
Sentinel. Warden. Paragon. Sentry. Hell, Wyrmslayer! All better sounding than “Dragon Hunter”.
I’ll hold my final judgment until I see more of this spec, but so far I’m not overly impressed. I was really looking forward to maybe maining my guard again…
Now I recalled the content of my nightmare last night: my Guardian will be a dragonhunter. Anet, really? I just don’t know what else to say. Did you just wake up one day and come up with that cheesy name out of all possible terms in english, latin or spanish? I really want to personally meet the guy that came up with that name. Just to see what he looks like. What next? warrior —-> witchdoctor?
well if warrior got to be a witchdoctor they would get plague of toads! somehow these toads would explode dealing insane damage and knocking things back. making the warrior have to try even less!
As true as Odin’s spear flies,
There is nowhere to hide.
I think this topic should be merged with other already existing topics about the matter.

lol ‘making the warrior have to try even less!’ Man these posts are great!
Good God you people bieatch and moan more than a unfed whorrre. Dragonhunter seems just fine.
People have the right to express their opinion and you sir are bypassing profanity filter.
Can we just call it a guardian with ranger as secondary class?
Guardians can already do reasonable support from mid-line using staff. The issue is that at the moment max damage melee is the name of the game, so unless we’ll see encounters that are absolutely undoable in melee and this spec’s longbow does amazing ranged damage, I just don’t see it being very useful
Of course final judgment will have to wait until full trait line and LB skill list, but so far, I am not very keen on what I see.
Yeah not a fan of the name, I cringed so hard when I saw that name I feared my face might collapse in on itself.
And what’s with the ranger nonsense? So they have traps, big whoop. Are guardians warriors because they have shouts and a sword? Oh wait, Rangers and warriors already shared both of those things with the Guardian since launch, and no one has ever mentioned guardians being like either for it. Quit being pointlessly contrary, no matter how many hipsters may say otherwise it is not ‘cool’ to act like an unsatisfiable spoiled child.
I’m probably going to pick this up and then not even use the traps or the longbow, I just want those new traits for my tanky hammer/swordtorch condi build.

Yeah… This looks pretty lackluster. As others have pointed out, the name is pretty bad.
It does feel like ranger (gave us ranged traps and a bow… yipee /s)
Wish they would have spent more time on this. Seems like guardian always gets the boring stuff and is constantly overlooked. Or should I say
“Guardian is in a good place right now.”
Sad that guard is my main. :-(
Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] | Rank 80
Well, I finally get to throw Sunlight Spears, even if they’re not Sunny D flavored so that’s pretty cool.
I felt like the animations were too similar/copypasta’d from Ranger and just weren’t unique enough. It needs more than just adding a new spell effect on target struck.
Dovahkiin/Dragonhunter doesn’t really match my eyez to the class well.Oh… This is the class that gets access to traps. :x Hmmmmmm, still a weird name.
Maybe they’ll get cripple attacks to represent you guessed it, an arrow on the knee.

Dragonhunter is such a kitten name. Who gave the okay to this?
Incoming death knight for necro. God help us.
50/50 GWAMM x3
I quit how I want
I love how people often complain Guardians lack a good solid ranged option for combat. ANet fixes the problem, gives it an admittedly lackluster name, and people still whine about it.
I don’t know… the Dragonhunter name is cliche, but it’s still a cool sounding name. Besides, people have kind of asked for a petless ranger, and this is the closest we can think of.
From how I can see this, this spec is almost a combination of the ranger, and the Frost Bow user in that it provides support for allies as he fires his energy arrows plus the fact that DHs have traps. I can’t be certain about the Frost Bow part though but that would be kind of awesome.

People are really whining about the name xD Even in game people seem to just not like the name, and like most everything else!
I was a little bit disappointed when I heard about that guardians will get bow, as I don’t think it suits the profession. I was okay with it nevetheless, but today, after learning about the name of the specialisation and watching the video, I became really-really disappointed. Let’s hope it is not necessary to pick up your profession’s specialisation, in order to remain competitive, otherwise I have to search for a new main.
so far chronomancy is still the coolest/best specialization, SPACE AND TIME FTW
as for the name "Dragon Hunter’’ I personally dont understand why, they keep saying how the guardian is wielding the ’’Light’’ over and over and how he mastered the powers of the Light, than why would you call it ’’Dragon’’ hunter, dragon’s have nothing to do with the light, it should be named "Arch Angel, Paladin’’
something more divine
so Guardians are becoming Rangers and Rangers are becoming Guardians….meh
Ahem. I’ll just leave this here.
I think the name fits very well. Considering that dragons are the great evil of the world, and that guardians have a justice/smiting evil theme, becoming a “Dragonhunter” was only natural. We have to see what other changes they made in the ready up before we jump down Anet’s throat, but so far they’ve definitely met the “Changing classes in unexpected ways” goal for elites.
I agree, I think the article and video simply did a poor job of representing how this spec relates to the guardian. I think the issue was the term “big game hunter”, a guardian wouldn’t pick up a bow and take the title “Dragonhunter” to be some sort of haughty trophy seeker. They’d be doing those things to rid the world of the evil menace that are dragons, they’re merely adapting their abilities to best combat the creatures that can be somewhat difficult to fight with only melee weapons.
Honestly I’m intrigued by the spec and want to find out more about it but I feel the article and video really dropped the ball and failed to inspire.
…Why is it that everyone seems to hate specifically the name? like, I mean sure, the name doesn’t make sense to me, but it’s not like the name is really that important to me. 99% of my focus is on the skills and new weapon, and in that aspect..
I’m really excited, honestly. traps have always been pretty cool imo, and I love the longbow. That mixed with healing (my prefered role in other games) makes me really happy.
It was very meh to watch. Sadly.
Liked Sentinel and Warden so far. And Seraph makes sense with the wing and bow things.
Maybe the hate that Dragonhunter is getting is partially because, like, there are no real dragons to fight in this game and people do not really care about dragons? The dragons (and their champions) in GW2 are some unseen giant chunks of plants, iceblobs and crystals (AFKing while being zerged), and not some real threats from flesh and blood that people can perceive as real threats worth hating and fighting against.

Curious thought that hit me a moment ago: what if the Dragonhunter thing stems from lore they’re going to put into the game? What if the unresolved thread about Glint’s egg leads to a Guardian like Logan or Brahm taking a path that uses light (one of Glint’s domains) to battle the other elder dragons?

Would sound fun but knowing most zerge groups and dungeon partys, you’ll hear someone shout in map chat “Plz stop knock backs, stupid warrs FFS!! You’re not a F’ing Ranger!”.
Definitely a total and abysmal “meh”, guards with traps, just.. why? and don’t get me started with that horrible and awful name..
Easily, the most dissapointing elite skill of all HoT.
The name sucks but more importantly I will restate, traps are currently useless. Unless guardians can place these traps like necro marks it is going to continue to be useless. You put down a trap and hope a mob walks into it? Worthless.

For me the most problem is that dragons have 0 personality and I actually don’t care in the least about them. This being said dragonhunter makes no sense for guardian which is a profession based on team support and defense or zealot burning agression, not about traps or tracking. I don’t mind bow but the name… I mean it hurts me physically.
Lovely concept, stupid profession name.
The name is a bit lackluster especially compared to Chronomancer. I think Exemplar would have been a good name.
As someone who mains a Guard (two of them actually), gotta say I’m pretty underwhelmed at this. I may have to retire Guardian as my main. I have zero interest in traps. If I wanted to place traps I would play a ranger or thief type character as that would be appropriate. But traps as main utility for a plate wearing holy warrior? What?
Sucks that the class I love most will have a specialization making it basically a class I love least. If they were looking to do a complete 180 on the class, they certainly succeeded.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
No matter what the title, there will always be people waiting to pick it a part down to the electrons.

You are aware that you are in no way or form required to use the Elite Specialization, right? You can still keep playing the Guardian as it is now.

Woot! this is going to be fun! can’t believe people are stuck on the name it’s great! ill take my LB with DH spec and have a blast! Thanks Anet!

Glad someone’s excited about it.
I’ll be trying it out eventually.

That name is so generic. In essence, we’re all dragon hunters. We’ve killed Teq, Shatterer, claw of Jormag, Zhaitan, etc.
Why couldn’t they just use something from GW1? Was that game so bad that they want to ignore it? Use it’s lore!
Here’s the GW1 “dragon hunter”, http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/The_Dragon_Hunter
As you can see, it has nothing to do with the new Guardian spec. lol.

I guess people aware enough to post here know this fact. However when I’m going to buy an expansion I expect something new for my profession. In this case I see a legit reason why many guardians can feel bad, me included. And I strongly believe there are people that want expac only for specs which is a sellpoint to them (for me the sellpoint is revenant).
Name is generic as kitten, fitting for a warrior or a ranger…
And then traps… seriously? A zealous warrior, blessed with holy might, throws traps?
Seems legit.
And the wings? Oh nice, for a split second on activating a virtue – hm.. where did i already see this… ah yes dragonknight in ESO for example.
At least on good thing this message has – guardian is my one and only class and because the new specialisation was the only thing interesting me for the expansion in the first place, i can safely say now, that i will not bother anymore with it nor will i buy it.
Dragonhunter…. pff.
Dragon hunter…. wow… NO please NO that does not fit at all with the game and epic naming of current classes….
Ah yes, Warrior, Ranger and Engineer are all such awesome and epic names of classes…
lol, always defending Anet. Don’t you ever criticize them at all?
One can argue that those classes are supposed to be generic, thus having specializations differentiates people from the generic class. You know, like in almost all other MMOs. It just seems like Anet never got around to adding specs.
The name is completely irrelevant. Man you people complain about the dumbest things.
And just because “traps” aren’t viable now doesn’t mean they won’t be in the expansion.
Rangers have been begging for more “druid” themed options since before launch. They get a druid themed spec. Now, we don’t know what is in that spec and the people wanting it may hate what it actually does. We will wait and see.
Guardians didn’t ask for a Dragon Hunter themed spec. People cringed when they saw the name. People will come up with a derogatory term for their own spec if they choose to run it because they won’t be able to bring themselves to call themselves Dragon Hunter.
Most of the changes will probably be fine. Traps will probably be decent. They’ll be called things like Ward of Resistance and Ward of Judgement, and traited may do cool things. They may even incorporate new mechanics, who knows. They may be more than just pulsing damage/buffs. It could be worthwhile taking the new traitline and not using traps (unless the minor traits all improve traps.)
Fine for me. If it’s a game changer they can call it whatever the hell they want.
Zarin Mistcloak(THF) Valkyrie Mistblade(WAR) Kossori Mistwalker(REV) Durendal Mistward(GRD)
I used to think (build op, pls nerf) like you, but then I took a nerf to the knee.
The big thing is: does it make players more excited to play the game? It certainly doesn’t make me want to log back in.

Does that make them a Warden? huehue
I think many people are mainly disappointed about seeing those wings in teaser pic and being reminded of Paragon and then seeing that it really was just a massive tease in general by not being one. The fact that it has throwing spears is even more of a tease on that. ;s I assume they threw in the word Hunter with a random affix because Paragons didn’t use traps and they really really wanted to add these new light based traps..
It’s supposed to be called a specialization…not a re-roll.
except its insulting, anet knows Guardians have wanted a useful ranged weapon since launch. So they give us a longbow, but make it useless damage wise and attach it to a trap spec. Its absolutely insulting.
D Hunter…. Hunter of the D. Good joke
rip my dream for lancer

Being able to negate all projectiles in front of you and become more mobile so you can gap close is not insulting or useless.
It could possibly be an innovative solution to the problem guards had with the issue of being projectile kited, without simply giving them comparable return firepower.
