Are these supposed to be valuable? I have full stacks of them filling inventory, plenty of refined versions of them on bank and I’m not going to craft more ascended weapons any time soon. When I look at the reward tracks in WvW and PvP, many of them contain dragonite ore and empyreal shards as reward. I’m forced to just discard them from my inventory.

If it appeals to you, you can always go after…

Princess: she’ll eat your dragonite ore http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Princess

Herta: it(?) will eat your bloodstone dust: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Herta

Mawdrey II: will also eat your bloodstone dust: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mawdrey_II

There also exists the Star of Gratitude for eating up Empyrial Fragments, but it seems to only be obtainable during Wintersday. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Star_of_Gratitude

Personally, I found getting Princess to be entertaining… though a guide was definitely required.

They’re necessary for some things, but are they valuable...

I think most people who play frequently probably have more of one, two, or all three of these materials than they need. They gate some content, mostly the crafting of ascended gear, to a certain amount of play, but they’re not easily convertible into anything else.

The ascended eaters are fun, but they mostly give junk, so I wouldn’t feel bad if you find it more convenient to just toss materials you don’t need, either.

They are presented in tooltips as the reward or reason to strive forward in reward track. I’d be much more excited to get some ectos or tier 6 fine crafting materials – items that have wide variety of uses – instead of valueless trash.

They’re used for Ascended crafting. If you have no interest in them, that’s on you, but some of us want Ascended gear and as such enjoy them as rewards.

Ascended gear is usually not bottlenecked by lack of these three materials. If you’re playing WvW you’re already getting tons of dragonite ore and empyreal shards from tower lords. No reason to get them from reward tracks too.

Like anything else in the game they’re useful if you need them, and if not it’s just another thing to get rid of. The only difference is you can’t sell them.

I’ve actually been going out of my way to get bloodstone dust in the last few days because I decided to make The Bifrost and the first tier of the collection needs 900 bloodstone dust.

Meanwhile I’ve been selling all the softwood logs I get, because I already have more than enough for my purposes.

I make coin salvaging the items from the ‘eaters’ on my mid-level character. Thus, they are not valueless to me.

I’ll probably hit VB again soon with this change. I’ve been going for Grand Artisan, and surprisingly ran out of Dragonite (while 1 year ago I didn’t know what to do with that stuff). :/

Guess what. Not everybody plays WvW. They were added so that people that play PvP also could make ascended stuff with materials they gained with their normal game play.

Perhaps, they were referring to the WvW Reward tracks?

The OP mentions the PvP track as well.

i think they are just there so that if you are mostly a pvper you have a way to obtain these materials for if you decide to transition to a mode where you might actually want stuff they can get you

Most wanted in game additions: Beastiary, readable books
