I am rather sure that they completely removed the ability for them to drop out in the world with the Feature Patch on the April 15th.

You get Dye drops??? Lucky you! The only place I, very occasionally, get them is BLTC chests.

No more Unidentified Dye drops since 15/04
There are only 3 acquisition methods

From the wiki:

Black Lion Chest (Unlocked)
Laurel Merchant — 5 Laurels
Mystic Forge — Combine any four, rare, spectrum-specific unidentified dyes crafted by a Chef, e.g. Unidentified Red Dye (Rare)

It’s too bad they removed them from world drops. I always liked getting surprised when i found one.

I would be curious to know how the OP is getting 2-3 per week? That is ~35 since the April patch. I have not gotten ANY since the April patch.

Dyes no longer drop in the game. I seriously doubt the OP is getting any dyes.

If OP is getting them, he is getting them from the above listed ways, not from lucky drops ingame. I’ve gotten a number of them from black lion chests, which is probably where OP is getting his.

I read the line “(WvW most of the time and World Boss).” as referring to his play-style rather than where he was getting the dyes.

Maybe he is referring to PvP unidentified dyes which drop from PvP reward chests.

Replaced by account bound dyes. Pretty good trade if you ask me.

It’s a nice trade, I guess, yeah. But, I certainly miss the excitement of receiving an Unidentified Dye from a loot or gathering drop, and wondering if it will be something exciting I don’t already have. Most of the time it was an Uncommon Dye I had, but the chance, the chance just to get a dye, and then the chance of identifying it for something cool….that’s what is missing.

I know we get drops, and can open chests…but, it’s not the same….to me.

The game needs more stuff to drop in game…more frequently. It doesn’t have to be valuable stuff. Stuff like the weekends when we had birthday cupcakes. or the lockpicks, or dyes.

There’s not enough of that going on.

If you want that feeling back, do some key runs and open BL chests. I usually get 3-5 UIDs from opening 10 chests. Occasionally I get a dye pack.

<—-too lazy to farm. I just run what I feel like running when I feel like it. Farming keys would bore the hell out of me.

I was just thinking the other night about how much I miss dye drops…

I do, and have done for a long time. Doesn’t mean I don’t miss the exciting drop experience Dyes gave out in the world. Chests aren’t the same, as you know when you will get one. So, they are missing half the experience.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy opening BLTC chests, or any chest, for that matter…I still miss Dye drops, though. Maybe it’s a throwback to Guild Wars (One) days. /shrug

That’s one thing the game is missing, those Holliday drops. It was fun getting those cupcakes or the other drops. They took them out because we have cooking, but it would be nice to get cupcakes drop that give a 30 min speed boost or maybe +X points increase in all stats or traits. Alcohol that makes your character yell out funny lines. (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Yo_Ho_Ho_and_a_Bottle_of_Grog) The fortune ones that boosted your stats and made your character say weird stuff.

It’s getting stuff unexpectedly that’s fun.

Ahhhhh. This brings back memories of doing vanquishes in Mount Qinkai. My Ritualist using the lunar fortunes and yelling out stuff about her cat and other random remarks. Lol.
