Q:
Drop rates for Black Lion Chests
A:
In the past, “limited time” has meant the following:
- Until the next non-bug patch.
- Until the next major update
- Indefinitely (that happened once — they gave a date, changed it to indefinite, and then ended up saying they meant it to be a permanent change in the first place, but, you know, typos ftl)
The drop rates are, however, so low, that I’m assuming I still won’t get a perma contract regardless of how many chests I open. I will, however, keep an eye on the TP prices/supply — I expect prices to drop, followed by a brief panic among buyers, followed by a brief (but somewhat longer) seller panic, followed by a new equilibrium.
It says limited time so that’s all we know unless they volunteer more information.
ANet may give it to you.
Unfortunately, it hasn’t kicked in on my account, yet. ; (
How long will the x3 boost to permanent contracts last? I’ve always viewed those items as too expensive for the minor convenience they afford, so it’s nice that their prices are going down.
1% x 3 is only 3%. The original drop rate is not even close to 1%. This isn’t incentive enough for me to even consider wasting my gems on keys.
I opened 30 chests and got nothing much other than the little frisson of the act of opening each one. It wasn’t horrible what I got, just nothing memorable other than two mini claim tickets. I’d have liked to get a Faren and Kasmeer but as they are 5 and 10 tickets respectively I elected charr car and pocket raptor instead.
I am doomed to remain perma hair kitless.
Thrice nothing (well infinitesimal), still nothing.

If someone told you, “Due to this new crazy storm, your chances of being struck by lightning, while underground in a storm shelter, has increased by 300%!”, would you dig another hole below your shelter? Dividing by zero has been a meme for a while and Anet is trying to rebrand that.
When something is exceedingly rare, turning the dial a little just won’t make much difference. It’s like any gambling, if you are fine losing, go for it.
