Just wanted to get others feedback on this. I keep seeing drop rates getting nerfed and I’m sure its to save the economy from gold sellers and botters etc but what about the gamers doing it for fun? I keep feeling like every time Anet hurts a gold seller they hurt 50 legit players in the process? Is it just me or are we as players like casualty’s of Anets war on gold sellers/botters?

Farmers rarely but do get hit by DR when farming for long periods. Unfortunately/fortunately the DR mechanic is not biased. We could use a better system, but currently it works pretty well for bots, but has the unintended occurrence of hurting some players.

Some players? I thought most if not all players imo. I mean running from one instigator to the other is the only decent way to make money and I was using 380% magic find. My drops still were not what I would’ve expected running MF that high. I mean without the southsun MF bonus we max out at 100 MF roughly and if I’m getting blue and green most of the time with almost 400MF then what point is running MF gear anywhere else in the game? seems like it gives a .0005 drop bonus? ahhh I don’t know. Just seems the rates are not hurting botters/gold sellers anywhere near as much as it is the rest of us?

What do you mean with drop rates getting nerfed? As far as I know only certain popular farming spots in Orr have been removed from the game.

Furthermore, farming the instigator events is not really the best way to get some gold in this game because chests DO NOT benefit from MF gear. MF only works on monster drops and yes, monster drops are affected by DR.

If you really want to make some money in southsun, try farming skelks on the east shore.

No, I generally run about 12-sometimes 18 hours on a weekend just farming gathering etc because I’m busy during the week. I rarely have problems with DR because I don’t sit in one spot like some robot. They also made some areas harder, so it would be harder for people to make bots who can survive. Don’t take every word on forums as the general consensus. The reason you think its not hurting botters as much is because it is actually working ^^ GW2 probably has kitten tters and RMT than at least 5 other MMO’s I’ve played. But we do need a new way now that they are gone, DR feels like it was a quick fix and a placeholder for something more accurate.

Drop rates hurts only players.

Bots don’t care, botter will profit greatly from the scarcity.

Care to elaborate on the blank statements lol? Is there a Botter community actively discussing this issue as well?

If you ask for an explanation, you don’t deserve any place to discuss here.

Bots are tireless farmers. Bots can give the maximum effort and reap all drops possible.

Humans have limited energy and attention span. They take breaks. They sleep, they go to work, they eat.

The more the droprates are nerfed, then the more scarce the drops are, the more frustrated the players are and the higher the price of the drop becomes. Bots don’t get frustrated, bots can give 100% effort at all times when programmed right. Botters profit more from higher price. Players do not.

I farm very well myself, I don’t really get tired, and I DO profit from high prices. And my place in any discussion is pretty valid considering I did buy the game and DO farm. Plus when bots get found out, they lose real cash. So that’s a bigger loss there, and that alone is a big reason for people not to use them. People who know how to farm don’t complain about DR.

You are not maxed out at ~100 MF without the Southsun buff. Also, MF has nothing to do with chest drops; it only affects loot from bodies.

Agreed, you can get well over 100 with items/buffs etc w.o the island buff. I think i had 452MF with the island buffs, it was a huge noticeable difference. But even 200mf is noticeable to me over many hours.

I highly doubt any drop rates were nerfed. If there was you would see it in the volume of trade in the economy. In all the mats that I have looked at I have not seen any. The only thing recently that did have a change in drop rate is rare materials from salvage equipment and that was a bug. If anything I would say drop rates have increased and the economy has stabilized.

As for who they hurt. They hurt the players and the economy. When Drop rates do get nerfed it is also usually due to the fact that the rate is higher then expected. Anyone got some butter.

Butter at one time had a high drop rate. Extremely high. Sell orders shot up dramatically. Prices dropped drastically. Then they introduced a temporary Mystic Forge Item to fix the abundance of supply after fixing the drop rate bug. Sell volumes sank. Prices skyrocketed.

You will need to view the graph in all time to see it.

If you need a more recent example on a shorter time-frame. Take Glob of Ectoplasm. This one is harder to see though. But you will notice the increase and the drop.

I’d like to know this as well, because, I’m sure they at least monitor these talks. I’d also like to know JUST HOW a botter will profit greatly from the scarcity of drops, very ludicrous.

Sorry I wasn’t clear on this, yes I am aware about chest drops I was really just referring to the instigator drops while farming southsun.
