If i would like to play a druid, do i need to have the new Heart Of Thorns expansion?
Can i see how the new specialization plays without the expansion in any way?

You’ll for sure need the expansion to play the specializations in PvE and I’m 90% sure you’ll need it to play them in structured PvP.

As far as I am aware, you will only be able to access the elite specializations (the ones released with HoT, at least) by purchasing Heart of Thorns. So in this case I sadly don’t believe there is a way other than buying the expansion that would allow you to play as a Druid.

You must own HoT to eventually unlock the Druid elite specialization.

The only things from the expansion you can play without buying heart of thorns is the new borderlands map in wvw and the new spvp map stronghold. You can get access to guild halls only when people in your guild that have HoT claim it. Specialisations, the revenant and new zones are locked for people that do not have HoT
