Why do you not attack with both pistols with dual wielding them and auto attacking?

Come to think of it, most dual wield auto attacks only make use of the primary weapon

That is likely due to your auto-attack skill being skill number 1, which is assigned to your main hand weapon (in case of dual wielding).

You may change your auto-attack skill to a different skill (right click on desired skill), but be aware that in most cases only the 1st skill has no cooldown or initiative cost. So if you do do that, your character won’t auto-attack at all and would automatically use the auto-cast skill whenever possible.

I know the mechanics of why. I meant why from a design perspective. Seems silly to me to have a pistol in each hand and to only make use of one regularly

Would look cool to blast with both pistols. I am not talking anything game breaking or changing up skills here, just looks wise it would make more sense.

Autoattack animation is not dependant on the offhand weapon most likely because it was easier to do. Otherwise each mainhand weapon would have needed a separate animation for every possible offhand (even if lot of them would have looked the same).

Actions, not words.

Then it’s simply because of how the skills are designed. The auto-attack skill is there regardless of what the off-hand weapon is (if any at all). I would imagine it’d be an annoying task to program characters to alternately shoot from either hand if they had dual pistols equipped but never when something else or nothing is equipped in the off-hand. Same for any time a character may dual wield two of the same weapon class (ie. dual swords/axes/maces/daggers…).

It is because u got limited ammo and cant waste it shooting both pistols. It is also possible u only shoot with one cause u need to reload it with your other hand.

From a design perspective, the developer made the animation to work independently of the off hand weapon, with your suggestion a new animation should be made for each race just to be used with 1 weapon set.

Actually it is not a design limtation. Most one-handed melee weapons do not exhibit this behavior for the most part, for example a Warrior with two swords or sword/axe will attack with both weapons on their auto-attack skill #1.

I’ve not seen much of dual use with Auto Attack.

dual use by warrior: Any mainhand and Offhand Axe, Dual Strike and Whirling axe pretty much uses the mainhand weapon, although both skills count as Axe attacks for achievements…
Riposte, with Off hand sword, (Well, atleast Charr use the main hand to deliver the counter blow, while blocking with offhand sword)

But for Akimbo pistols, always shooting both at the same time is waste of ammo and you cannot use the sights properly, you’d only unload both guns if you are in a good position to do so.
That’d be part reality…

The mechanics are why. Main hand pistol can be used with more than one off hand weapon. Designing one auto attack to use regardless of which off hand is equipped is easier than designing a different one for dual pistol, or for each possible offhand, requires more design work.

Most pistols are single-shot designs.

Nobody ever reloads between shots.

Spam unload as a thief, something like 32 shots without a reload in about 8 seconds.

That is 100% not true. A warrior dual wielding any melee weapons will only attack with the primary with AA. In fact, the animation doesn’t even change if stick an axe or a sword or a mace in the off-hand — you’re just attacking with the one weapon.

There is only one time, one time that both weapons are used in unison, and that is when an axe is wielded in the off-hand: #4, Dual Attack.

Not talking about both at the same time (at least I wasn’t) Talking about firing one then the other, then the other again etc. Purely for looks and common sense purposes.

Because your “autoattack” is actually a skin that just has no cooldown and is used as an autoattack.

In this game your 1-3 skills have always been Main-hand and your 4 and 5 offhand besides 2-handers and thiefs that have the 3 skill being a mix of the main and offhand

So your 1 skill which is an auto attack should be your main pistol, although i wouldn’t mind the animation switching between pistols shot for AA, i don’t think dual-shooting AA’s would “look” as good
