Q:

I’m not necessarily asking for a Dungeon Finder like World of Warcraft, let’s get that clear. I was just wondering if Anet is working on some kind of better LFG / Group finder system for Dungeons. Can we expect one within a few months? A year? 2 years? Soon? Never?

The current one is just….well, I don’t have nice things to say about it so I won’t say anything at all.

I honestly believe a modern MMO should have some kind of functional LFG system. It would make grouping for Fractals and more traditional dungeons much easier than spamming LFG/LFM in Lions Arch.

I understand the game is young, I don’t expect one by tomorrow, but I’m honestly curious if we should even expect one at all within 2013. (PS: I already know of gw2lfg.com and if you don’t, you should).

The way to scale it for casual and extreme gamers alike is to open the dungeons periodically throughout the day. Each dungeon que should be announced and give an option to join the dungeon que or que as a group. You should be able to que from anywhere because you may have not explored the maps yet.

I imagine they are probably working on something similar to the original Guild Wars I game where if you said LFG, LFM and such you were automatically put on a list viewable to the whole town very much like gw2lfg.com

I am completely against the dungeon finder idea entirely, this is one of the only games I have played that felt like it had a sense of community. Especially with world verus world, you just know certain players. Ontop of that, people don’t vote kick each other for dumb reasons.

OK, 1) People do still kick each other for stupid reasons.

I’m not sure who you think spamming map chat in LA is more conducive to forming a community than having a LFG tool where you can sign up for what you want or see people who are partying up to get into a dungeon. I’d much rather spend time playing instead of spamming map chat or rearranging my time so I can party with guildmates.

Open them periodically throughout the day? Maybe I don’t understand what you’re trying to say but I disagree with that idea if you’re saying what I think you’re saying. There’s too many restrictions for no reason other than to frustrate people and to have them manage their time around a game. The idea of a LFG would be for easy access to groups so you can get and see more content on your time. There’s no need to complicate things with LFG lock out timers, which is essentially what that would be.

There is no sense of community when it comes to Dungeons. That’s like saying you’re against LFGing in Overflow servers because you lose a sense of community. The only reason your server even matters is because of WvWvW, which is completely separate from Dungeons. What makes GW2 so great is that Dungeons can be done with anyone on any server. So why would they limit their LFG system to a smaller server base when they could have a booming Dungeon player base across all servers? Think about the Trading Post and how it’s across all servers. It’s booming, full of items, money and it’s active. That’s how their Group Finder should be.

Regardless, I didn’t mind the GW1 system but it is outdated. Anything would be an upgrade from their current system imo.

I use gw2lfg.com and never need to spam chat, the mobile app even eliminates alt tabbing.. Anet should hire the guy who made it or buy it and make it a tab in the trading Post…. Call it mercenary work or something

LFG tools damage the game. Instead of having you try to find a guild and get to know people, you prefer to stand in town queuing and grinding dungeons. But here’s the thing, what happens after you get all of that dungeon gear?

You’ll have nothing left to do and then you’ll want to queue into fractals. There’s no win scenario here.

Also, I have several friends from overflow so I do have a sense of community in overflows and my own server.

They wouldn’t even have to hire him, because they made a system very similar built right into the game in the original game.

I dont get why the hate for automated lfg…

Automated lfg >> map chat clogged with lfg

automated lfg lets people find group while anywhere so LA not perpetually clogged to overflow

automated lfg does not prevent friends from grouping on their own or forming “leet” teams (rolls eyes).

Poor boi.
A simple lfg board would do the trick without putting you into groups of people you dislike, or groups of 4 people that just need someone to kick right before the kill.
Automation changes dungeons into chores with annoying people you better not talk to cause it might risk losing teh phat lootz.

Automated would not stop you from grouping with people that you do like, since well you already know them. Also, I have never seen an automated system that would put you in groups with people you have on ignore. But if you are spamming chat for a group. Plus, about 90% of the groups I join are full of people I do not know anyways, so having it automated would be no different, I would still be grouped with people I do not know, but at least I didn’t need to stand around in Lions Arch for a massive amount of time looking for that group full of people I do not know.

IF you are spamming chat for a group, then chances are you are going to group with a bunch of people you do not know anyways, otherwise you would have just used your guild/friends list to create the group. You don’t spam LFG in chat channels looking for people you already know, you are looking for people you actually don’t know, otherwise you would have just asked people on your lists anyways.

They need to get a dungeon finder in this game asap. No reason not to have one. I have a real simple solution for the people that don’t want one. Don’t use it! Do dungeons with your friends, guildies, whatever.

The tool makes it far easier for the casual player to get in and do the things they want in game instead of sitting in LFG forever.

A pre-autoWoW style dungeon finder would be cool, a LFG system where you could see who was searching for what. what teams were searching for what, and how many were in said team.

A way of flaging yourself for say Arah Path 1/2/3 or All, as well as a brief LFG comment that everyone on the server could see.

City of heroes had a pretty good version of what I mean.

Just because there is an automated lfg function does not mean you have to use it. The only people concernd with this are people who have established enough people to go to dungeons with all they want. Of course they don’t want a group finder tool. Finding a dungeon group is doable but starting out alone without any friends is tough. You have to make contacts and keep those relationships. You have to go through a great many of people to see who works out for you. It can be frustrating and becomes work. For most people this is discouraging for a game that your supposed to be able to just log on and have fun ( if they are interested in doing dungeon content). For me I don’t care either way since dungeons mean nothing to me thus far then a occasional fun run. Looking at it logically though it is always better to have more options to suite all people.
