I remember when (way back in the beginning of GW2) dungeons were required to progress your story line. Each dungeon had an integral piece of your personal story and the main story of bringing Destiny’s Edge back together for the final push towards Zhaitan.

What if the dungeons were scaled for player numbers 1 to 5 and put back into the story line as they should be?

This could revitalize and correct the purpose of dungeons from nerfed farmfests to meaningful content once again.

The only dungeon that was ever part of your personal story was Arah story mode. The rest have a separate, stand-alone storyline which chronologically occurs at the same time as the personal story and explains how Destiny’s Edge got back together.

The storyline assumes the player has done the dungeons as they’re going through the story but it’s entirely possible to play, and understand the personal story without ever doing dungeons or play and understand the dungeons (both story and explorable) without doing the personal story.

The only change they’ve made to dungeon stories since launch is to convert Arah story mode to a personal story instance, so I’m not sure what you mean by putting them back into the storyline.

I’ve been hoping they would make the story dungeons soloable for some time now. I thought it would be a nice thing to do so more people can enjoy them. I finished my Personal Story years ago, but I never did any of the dungeons for the story until long after I’d defeated Zhaitan.

Aren’t the story modes already soloable?

AFAIK, the only story mode dungeon that’s soloable is the Arah one where you kill Zhaitan. If it’s been changed, I’m not aware of it.

The dungeons were required to progress the story line when GW 2 first came out. That lasted about 30 seconds because of all the complaining.

Arah was left as the end because how else could you finish personal story killing Zhaitan with the original dungeon design? They would have had to rewrite/design the entire end of the personal story.

The story modes are designed 5 person. They are doable with less depending on skill level.

Only if you’re really good and an expert at your class. They aren’t designed to be easily done solo.

Only Arah’s story mode was adjusted. And they completely removed it and only made it a Personal Story instance and therefore not repeatable solo by any character (not that the rewards they give are such that you would want to repeat them, though).

Arah storymode is. It’s actually been turned into a personal story chapter now (meaning you can only do it by playing through the story).

The rest might be, if you’re playing a specific profession and build and using very specific tactics, but I doubt there’s much cross-over between people who want to experience all of the storylines in the game and people who play that way.

I think you’re remembering it incorrectly. I’ve been playing, reading the forums and reading the patch notes since the first public betas and I don’t remember dungeons being required to progress the story at any point Except Arah story mode, which has always been the final chapter.

Edit: I got my first level 80 in March 2013, having been about level 40 when the Lost Shores event happened in November (I spent a lot of time in between on other characters), I was doing the story as I went along but the first dungeon I ever did was the Flame and Frost one in April 2013, and the first one after that was Arah explorable.

So if the dungeons were required for personal story progress they must have changed it either durings the betas (although you couldn’t go past the Destiny’s Edge reunion, which was level 30 at the time, so I’m not sure how that could have come up as an issue) or before the end of October when I hit level 30 and carried on with my personal story without ever entering a dungeon.

I’m looking through the early patch notes now (on the Wiki) and I can’t find any mention of it there either.

I’m pretty certain dungeon stories were not required post-launch. Possibly during a beta where feedback changed it? I remember shortly after launch progressing the story well beyond the level of the first dungeon and past the point Ascalon was introduced.

I actually really like this idea. Making the dungeons an actual integrated part of the story makes them meaningful once again. Let’s be honest, people only do dungeons because they are easy money, not because they want to enjoy the story.

Yeah, I’ve been playing since launch and the dungeons were never required (Arah excluded) in order to finish the personal story. I only did the story dungeons much later in order to unlock pvp tracks. I ignored them before that.

Only if they are made truly soloable and doable by even the most casual of players.

One should not have to group together to do their personal story.

Probably right that it was a beta. So many years ago. So many things nerfed that didn’t need it.

Dungeons aren’t any less meaningful now than they were before; they just offer 70 silver less coin than they did at peak rewards (which is still more guaranteed loot than at launch).

Would be nice to see them do something to Dungeons that brought back players, they’re all mostly graveyards now days and finishing a legendary weapon is extremely difficult when it comes to obtaining the 500 tokens req for the ingredient.
