It seems a common response when asking about dungeons is that they are dead as there haven’t been any new ones since the base game.

Why have they stopped adding new dungeons?

Is there some form of additional current story in group format during HoT?

Asking as I liked that the dungeons give extra story info about DR members as you progress in levels and personal story during GW2.

Fractals have replaced dungeons. They are the replacement 5-man instanced content.

They gave up on dungeons for a few reasons – they found fractals worked better for them and the dungeons are in a mess in terms of speed running and exploiting and it was too much work to overhaul. I believe when they added new dungeon paths (well the 4th path in Twilight Arbor), interest did not remain as high compared to fractals.

It’s never been a popular decision, but I rather like fractals and am happy they have kept these going and are invested continued resources into them.

There haven’t been any new dungeons because Anet decided to focus on Fractals for 5-man group content rather than devote more time to the existing dungeons or creating new dungeons.

So, if you want small group instanced content that is given occasional updates, then Fractals is what you should go for. Each Fractal follows a brief story of an event that happened or will happen at some point in the history of the world of Tyria. Some are even shortened versions of past dungeons or living world events.

If you want larger group instanced content, then raids (which added after HoT) also exist. Raid stories, so far, have given supplemental details on story bits established in the main pve parts of the game. So, there is definitely story there.

Why isn’t a fractal also a dungeon?

Its instanced.
Group content
5 people

What’s the difference, besides the name and the agony mechanic.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

It seems a common response when asking about dungeons is that they are dead as there haven’t been any new ones since the base game.

It’s hyperbole by dungeon fans who misunderstand the current reward system (it’s slightly worse on a per-path basis, slightly better for those who complete eight distinct paths). Dungeons are old content; they aren’t any deader than boss trains (which used to generate lots of instances and now mostly just generate a few).

Why have they stopped adding new dungeons?

They never once added a dungeon, so they couldn’t have “stopped.”

John Smith: “you should kill monsters, because killing monsters is awesome.”

Dungeons are loosing interest because their all beginner level gameplay. Repetative and to help you start your character and becoming open to creation of dungeon armor. But End game Mechanics and Content is Fractal and Raids, If your not involved in the raids and raid armor and progressing to your Legendary Armor then you cant really be upset theres nothing new coming out regarding dungeons because its only upgrading via Raids.
