Dwarf Fortress crafting system
so ppl with less time on their hands which want to use it more on playing the actual game are always screwed?…….
Nope. Ppl with less time are supposed to have a job and be able to pay a few dozens of bucks for a legendary item they do not deserve.
Job is not the only reason for having less time
.
People have kids.
People go to school.
People [insert hundreds of different reasons here].

never played dwarf fortress but from the sounds of it, i can get all the mats needed to finally craft an ascended weapon, hit the button, and it spits out an exotic instead? If that’s the case, that sounds like an awful experience. In gw2, crafting isn’t really about making stuff to sell, but instead making stuff for yourself which is especially useful if you tend to experiment a lot with different builds, get cool skins, etc. If the entire idea of crafting in gw2 started out completely differently when the game was made, then maybe…but implementing it into gw2 as it currently is would be crushing to people.
This crafting system is used in korean grind/rng MMOs. And it is not very well received there. It is pretty good way to completely kill crafting system.

I’ve never played dwarf fortress either, but I’ve played games where RNG crafting is a thing. It’s terrible and should be universally hated, but some people enjoy that kind of thing.

Every system in the PvE part of the game is designed around benefiting the casual player. Making a system benefit a non-casual more, other than a non-casual can do it more often, is against that philosophy.
It’s tough to design a good crafting system. If better items drop than can be crafted, it’s a waste of time so why bother which is bad if you enjoy crafting. If crafted items are inherently superior then it becomes mandatory which is bad if you hate crafting.
Allowing crafted items to be traded helps those that hate crafting but then it’s market forces that determine price.
