I would like to see for every Dungeon and Fractal a big corresponding dynamic event in that area the would reward the same currencies. I think the dynamic events are much more fun and more in tune with the ideology of the game than the dungeons and fractals. Yes dungeons and fractals keep the WoW maniacs happy and I’m not saying take them out of the game, but I am saying give those of us who like the dynamic play style a place to gain the currencies from the dungeons. I’m not saying easy either just a place where lots of us can go in a big social group to play. Like the scarlet invasions a 10 minute window would be fine. If every dungeon and fractal had a corresponding dynamic event it would be amazing. But you would have to make an effort to make it better to win than just stand around farming champs.

Now I hear the Dungeon Runners screaming even as I write this. But I say let them scream as I buy a lot of gems.

so basically you want to gt dungeon currency by not doing a dungeon? Kind of like; “yeah I was hanging around Orr like w/e and bam, 60 Arah relics, ez”

And ouch, before you even begin the thread you are already patronizing everyone who will disgree with you by calling them “screamers” and “wow players” ….great way to start ;D

Im neither of those and I took it nearly personally, dont expect to get too far with such a inflamatory tone, if anything expect this to get moved to the “suggestion” subforum.

Do dungeons, they are there for a reason, most of them arent that hard, give em a try, it is definitely better than going around farming bosses, which is waht you are asking for kinda

Absolutely not. I just want dungeons to be bigger events that everyone can take part in that happen in the world. Events that are bigger than a dungeon. It can work like a dungeon and have a story and even a linear progression and even things happening in more than one place, objectives that need teams to split up and do and succeed. Then after 30 to 40 minutes of playing your way through the steps of the event you could fight the big boss at the end. Isn’t that what a 5 man dungeon is any way, a big fight through objectives to a big boss at the end. You are too narrow in your perspective and fail to dream big. Why play in a puddle when you could have a lake or an ocean.

I have found that the 5 man dungeon is just boring and filled with players too rigid in their thinking. Obviously they succeed in the environment and don’t want any changes. They like it and get rewards that they want and don’t want others to have because they will be less special. Well, it’s a big game and I just want another way to skin the cat. Not easier.

The only other thing I can think of is to add the same kind of content for dynamic players and give us our own currency. Which seems stupid when there are already too many currencies in the game. Frankly I believe there should less not more currencies.

No, I want big complicated events in the world not tucked away in 5 man instance dungeons. And not just running in and killing a boss.

I want more events like Scarlet invasions. Imagine instead of a dungeon a whole area of the map to move through with a list of accomplishments. The dungeon becomes Frostgorge Sound with a 10 minute window to get into an instance doing the event. So perhaps the first objective is to take back a fort with a few champs to kill. Then you find out the Aetherblades are trying to undermine the Kodan on one of the ships and you have to help the Kodans. Any way you work your way around the area doing the chores and generally righting level 80 wrongs and eventually you get to the real problem and kill the uber boss at the end just like a dungeon but bigger and everyone can play not just 5. This isn’t gonna be easy and will take a lot to win. But if you do you get some of the currency of the area and the standard rewards.

hum… there are some scenarios that it could be done.

A chain of events that rewards some parts of “something” and doing them all could reward 4/4 to forge them into tokens. Why not? But probably ain’t going to happen, although DE needs revamping other than forced Karma…

Where “List of accomplishments” consists of running around like an idiot with the zerg from a red circle to another while pressing 1 to get credit for the champions. Aside from the Temple of Balthazar chain event, which ins’t rocket science to pull off really you just have to keep the npcs from exploding, even if there were any I don’t think the idea of “complicated events” could be applied to 50 random strangers in a zerg. And Scarlet’s invasions were repetitive, boring as kitten grindfests. Hell, at least in Arah or Fractals you have to pay attention to what you’re kittening doing and adapt to the gimicks of the dungeon doing unless you want to spend the next 4 hours running around in circles like an idiot while progressing at the speed of pancakes.

And I like how you’ve pointed out that dungeons and Fractals were made to “Keep the WoW maniacs happy” instantly invalidating your whole kittening argument.

“Oh I dun like DUNGUNS like other people and I don’t wanna work to get the tokens. HMM, oh right I’ll just throw the whole concept of earning the rights of having DUNGEON gear out the window and make it so it’s acessible for people like me that don’t even want to lift a finger for it.”

The dungeon gear is pretty ugly and not worth the effort.

I just don’t understand the need to do 5 man groups all the time over and over and over again and the religious zealotry needed to defend them. Yes they were big at one time but time marches on and we can do better. This was advertised as a dynamic open world game and we just are not getting it. And dungeons should not be involved. They are a step backward. A thumb to suck for people with no imagination. Been there, done that, and I am ready for the next adventure. But hey, I know a lot of players like them so put them in the game just don’t tie things to them so those of us who want to play in the world can pretend they don’t exist.

“I just don’t understand the need to do 5 man groups all the time over and over and over again and the religious zealotry needed to defend them.”

In the open world we have group content and either (1) nobody does it or (2) there are champion loot bags and a whole zone zergs it. Challenge and reward are completely unbalanced and are not scaling with the number of people. This is a massive GW2 design problem right now and although some players think they’re happy because they’re getting loot bags, the game play is poor. WvW suffers from similar problems.

As soon as you move into an instance like a dungeon (or SPvP) the challenge and rewards can be balanced precisely for a group or solo play. By discarding dungeons you are discarding the only content that the designers have a chance of balancing with their current mechanics (although they haven’t even done that yet). Lupicus vs 5 people is a good fight and it would be ruined if 50 could do it at the same time.

Its because of people like this a huge part of the game is a zerg fest . Coant do arah because of the lack of skill so he wants to do a 50 man dungeonn to get tokens for the armor . If you want a dungeon armor , work for it .

I don’t want armor! I’ve got armor I love. There’s lots of styles in the game. And as I said the ones for the dungeons are not to my liking. I want better content for the world. I don’t want 50 players zerging a 5 man boss I want 50 players fighting the 50 player boss. But your happy to send someone who wants to solo into a 5 man dungeon to try and fight 5 man fights alone. Or just give me Heros and then I’ll do the 5 man dungeons. But if I have to hear someone screaming about the tank that can’t tank or the healer that can’t heal again, I’m going to reach through my computer and rip out some ones lungs. So to save my sanity and yours please come up with a better solution than just do it the same old way because it’s not working for a lot of players.

No.

You want a pretty skin? Earn it by doing more than pressing 1 on champions.

Dungeons, well at least Arah anyway, are one of the last few pieces of content where you have to take on a challenge to get good loot.

I suspect that all you do in the dungeon is press one on the boss too. I have found a use for 2, 3, 4,-0.

You all have found a good way for you to achieve and get good loot. And I can see that you enjoy it and good for you. I just want a way to enjoy playing and get nice things that is different but equal. I don’t remember ever stating that I wanted this to be simple or easy to do. But your mired in how it was always done and since you succeed at it and think it’s cool, you want to force everyone else to do it the way you did. You feel that if they are thinking up other ways to do things they might not be able to work on dungeons or that you might not be able to do the new stuff.

I’m quite sure the dev’s can think of a way to solve the zerg for champ problem with the Scarlet Invasions. They were fun and at a certain point if you were not going to win you might as well work on champs. Perhaps it was intended that way. You get about the same reward. Perhaps they wanted Scarlet to win. Perhaps they foresaw the need to get a lot of dust and mats and this was their way of giving it to us. But many players did not do it and now their crying. And it was also a good way to give us lots of crap to save to salvage but you probably gave all yours to the vendors. I salvaged lots of mine and got lots of luck.

As simple as the dungeons are, you do a lot more than press 1. A basic warrior rotation is something like banner pre-fight, for great justice, on my mark, axe 2, mace 4, gs 2, gs 3, axe auto then basically repeat the vuln stacking skills, the GS DPS skills and axe auto.

Against aetherblades I could technically get my longbow out and press 1.

The problem is that you want all of your loot in this game handed to you, and you seriously think pressing 1 on champions isn’t enough and that you should be allowed to get dungeon-specific rewards without doing dungeons. All I can say, is if you want the rewards, do the dungeons. Same with if I want a specific champ box skin and don’t want to buy it, I should go out and farm champions of the respective type.

I think it’s pretty smart of Anet to only offer certain currencies for doing certain things. It gets players to go out and explore the world they created without staying in the same spot for days, weeks, or months while earning currency.

No, I would not like to see events with the same currencies I can get from dungeons/jumping puzzles/champions.

I actually get that many of you like dungeons and playing with 4 players. I also get that you think that they are the be all and end all of difficulty and skill in playing. But my opinion is your wrong and we’re never going to agree. Why is it not possible for you to understand that many of us hate it and enjoy playing in the world in groups of many different sizes that happen at the moment. Or soloing! Dynamic and Spontaneous. You can grasp the idea of a 5 man dungeon but cannot grasp the idea of a open world event that is just as hard. JUST AS HARD! And that’s what I don’t understand is if it’s just as hard what difference does it make what rewards are used. Are you really that selfish that you cannot grasp the fact that someone who plays in a different style is just a valid as yours.

The dungeon system is too rigid and don’t tell me there is not a system. A Tank, a Healer and 3 DPS, I get it, I’ve done it, and it’s just well, boring for me. And yes, one nice thing about GW2 is everyone is quite capable of healing themselves some what. I’ve been in a few dungeons where the leader took us through and actually knew what he was doing and called targets, and helped the newer players through. But more often I’ve been in dungeons where players just ran through kind of like a 5 man zerg, were intolerant of some one who did not know every little detail. They were rude and nasty and hollered at everyone and were only too willing to tell everyone else how to play. Sorry, not my style. I want to avoid this at all cost. Life is too short for this kind of stress in a game.

I want the open dynamic world GW2 was intended to be.

The whole currency thing is my way of saying I think there are too many in the game. The wallet helps but does not include all currencies. Instead of adding a different currency for every area I thought of using ones that already existed. As a kind of example pick any dungeon, it would stay its regular 5 man version. But added would be a big just as hard world event that coordinated with the dungeon story. So you got a dungeon and an Event for that dungeon. Two things to do and not just one. You could play inside or outside or both and still achieve.

Don’t you get sick of doing the same area over and over again and again, looking for a few tears of belt buckles or buttons. Would it not be nice to do something new and exciting that also rewarded you with your buttons or whatever.

But some how this is demeaning to you and insulting. I’m for inclusion where you are for exclusion. I’m for big where you are for small. I like playing in a world with lots of people and you like to hide in the corner with your 4 friends.

Hide in the corner with 4 friends?! What the kitten? Is this now a condescending joke that people are inferior in comparison to you because they like to do dungeons with their groups of friends and have a good time and you don’t?

You’re part of the problem of community segregation in MMOs for that kind of ignorance that you just displayed in your last post that was basically: Your opinion is kitten, mine’s better.

Oh, so now it’s just because you don’t have a thick enough skin to deal with puggies when running dungeons you’re just gonna take it for granted and generalize everyone that likes something that resembles a challenge in a game that they have kittenloads of fun with the combat system?

And even so why’d you ask for an event tied especifically for dungeons? You even said it yourself that you didn’t want the armor tokens and in your first post you clearly stated that these events would award dungeon tokens? Your logic for this is flawed. If you want another world event at least try coming up with something more rational than an excuse for why you don’t like dungeons and why everything should be paved in gold just because it’s what you want.

If you’ll refuse to grow a thicker skin to deal with pug groups, then don’t run dungeons. Simple as that, stick with he world events that you praise so much.

Here is your problem. You express surprise that people find you to be insulting and claim that it’s all a big misunderstanding. Then in the very next sentence you assert that people who enjoy dungeons “like to hide in the corner with your 4 friends.”

Exactly how is that not being a condescending jerk?

why waste hours doing something that you get nothing for? Enjoyment? I’d rather run fractals.

There are many ways to play this game. But this game was advertised as a dynamic open world event oriented one. Not a closed instance dungeon one. If I would have wanted instance dungeons I would have stayed in WoW.

But my biggest problem with dungeons and some of the players who do them is they think they are bigger, and better than any one else. They refuse to believe that any other way could be fun or productive or valid. They did it this way, so it shall be for ever and always.

Theres not much skill involved in pressing 1 in a zerg. I think decent dungeon runners have a fairly good reason to think themselves above people who just follow a zerg all day.

Making the same rewards obtainable through different aspects of the game is something that should be possible with the exception of cosmetic items. Dungeon armour and weapons are cosmetic and should remain exclusive to people who actually do the dungeons.

Its very frustrating as a dungeon player trying to get ascended gear. Only place i get dragonite ore from is guild missions as I have no desire to bore myself to death with open world meta events. So things like ascended mats and items should be obtainable through most different aspects of the game. Exclusive tokens for certain skins should remain exclusive to the content that rewards them.
