So one of the amazing things I like about gw2 is that any build with any class is a viable build (with the exception of spvp). This is extremely difficult to achieve in most games, where one class typically is a lot better/has the necessary skills to accomplish a certain task (think back to monks/sins in gw1).

That being said, dynamic events in gw2, due to the poor scaling and the issue of ‘tagging’ mobs, promote classism.

You have several threads asking “what is the best class for tagging mobs” “what is the best build/weapon for tagging mobs” etc.

I really hope they will fix this issue in upcoming patches. All they really need to do is scale up the hp of ‘trash’ mobs in DEs so everyone gets a chance to ‘tag’ mobs, regardless of their class/build.

I’m really tired of trying to time my skills so that I hit mobs right as they appear/lose their ‘invulnerability,’ or dropping all my aoe on a spawn point and only getting credit for 1 kill.

I agree, and due to the nature of some events you don’t have a lot of time to loot the mobs you did get because more mobs spawn, or the event moves elsewhere, etc. So you have to dodge around mob attacks to loot, or fall behind to loot.

Give a break in between “phases” like that to loot for starters and possibly make the sparklies more visible so it’s easier to see where I need to loot in some darker or more packed areas of the world (i.e. Gates of Arah event in Cursed Shore – those steps are dark and mobs just keep coming at you). Also like you said, give the mobs more HP based on the amount of players actively participating so everyone can get a chance at some money making loot.

This has been posted a lot, hope to hear from Anet.
It’s not even about tagging, my issue is the complete lack of challenge when too many people. :/

DEs are the one place where character abilities don’t matter much, so you want something that’s AoE and no cast-time or cool down. We shoulda all been engis

Well, since Anet doesn’t really promote farming, i bet they will come with some sort of mobs drop penalty for such events. Easy fix would be to fill events with champion mobs instead of weak normal mobs, that way at least everyone stands a chance…otherwise simply remove these waves of mobs and make it an elite mob. Or…make event mobs not drop anything at all and raise event’s rewards (this would be the best imo, win/win for everyone).

Well people need some way of making money so you can’t introduce a mob drop penalty to those events or anything like that. Unless you want a broken game with a bad economy and dwindling popuation (coughteracough) then they need to make it easy and fun to earn money.

No one wants to grind for cash in any game. Ideally you should be able to make enough just by playing the game how you like. Making more money to spend on big items should either take a long time of normal play, or a bit of more focused money making in a shorter time period. I hate to mention this game, but Aion did it fairly well. You could do your daily dredgion and earn a lot of drops, do some PvE instances, do your daily quests, etc. Whatever your favorite method of play was, and you’d earn a decent amount. On top of that you had ways to minimize spending – me for example I had both max Alchemy and Cooking as well as all the necessary Morph recipes, so I could make every consumable I needed for almost nothing at all. Saved a ton of money that way so the money I did earn was largely just there sitting in my Inventory for when I needed to upgrade gear as well as minor daily costs such as travel and repairs.

So in this game, we ideally should be able to earn enough just by doing some open world DE’s, or WvW, or dungeons, etc. On top of that give me some ways I can reduce costs if I so desire to be more efficient. I understand why they want to nerf grinding and it makes sense, but in turn they need to make playing the game normally more profitable.

I would prefer that events give more money and not having mobs drop anything than playing the tagging mobs thingy, money can be earned in many other ways, you just won’t get 2-3g per hour which is what breaks economy.

people keep asking for a tagging spec because theyre wanting to earn more rewards from zergs
in reality 99% of them are either underlevelled, undergeared or simply not putting the effort in

zergs breed bad players

Go to option, hit autoloot.
Now you can loot by hittig F without even stopping a fight.

I like that idea even better. So when the event is over and you get your gold medal and Karma/XP rewards, you get more gold rewards as well. Much better system. They should also do that for Badges of Honor in WvW – add them to the rewards you get when you finish an event.

Tagging more mobs means you hit the DR faster… Now exp, that’s another issue.

TBH they need to move rewards AWAY from tagging in general. It really ruins the experience IMO. I get so focused on trying to do like 10-20% of every single mob’s health even if it’s not exactly beneficial towards beating the event.

Especially when events get more complex, say if one objective is to hold off all the mobs attacking and another is to work on repairing or protecting and npc or turret. Which one is more profitable?

It also makes some weapons/skills/builds mandatory and really hurts some classes more than others (Mesmers). On top of all of that, looting in this game is a pain in the kitten it’s hard to see the super subtle sparklies, and corpses just blend into the terrain and are covered by all the spam.

The rewards should be moved from killing mobs, to just contributing to beating the event, have a chest reward for the events sort of like Warhammer Public Quests, that reward you based on contribution. Make Contribution not competitive so if 50% of the people get gold, the rest get silver no matter what (if that’s how it works atm).

I think doing ANYTHING to affect an enemy mob should be considered tagging, dealing 1 dmg, putting a condition, a non-dmging chill field. They should all tag stuff, then just reduce the loot mobs in events give. I don’t understand why you should have to do a certain % of hp to tag, there’s no reason.

This.

Plus, are people feeling like they’re not getting enough Karma rewards because they’re underdamaging/ underhealing? Or is it more about the gear?

It’s more about the money for most people delmarqo. Just earning cash/in game gold for other uses.

This isn’t about the auto-loot option. This is about the fact that, unless you somehow manage to get 2 hits off on a mob before it dies, then you get no drops, and auto-looting makes no difference…

also dropping heals does not give you any loot, meaning if you’ve built a support-heavy build you’re going to get 0 rewards

Um have you ever played in Orr? What class do you play? Go try tagging some mobs in the really populated events (plinx etc.). You need to hit them twice to receive any loot. Most of the time it’s difficult/near impossible to hit them even once.

i solo 90% of my game

youre missing my point, you want to run with 100 people, consider the loot dilluted 1:100

I solo a lot of my gameplay as well…that’s not the point. I should not be penalized just because there are a lot of people doing a DE. The game should scale the DE better. That’s the point.

Right now I’m using the greatsword AOE for mob tagging. It works, but I don’t want to feel like a heel running up to a crowd of people at a DE and spamming my AOE instead of healing / curing conditions.
