(I hope this is in the right section of the forum)

Obviously there have been a lot of threads on Anet’s claims of expanding current weapon usage and introducing new weapons to the game.

I was wondering if any of the devs might be able to give an ETA on these updates? Or perhaps if any members of the community can offer some guestimations on when they might be implemented?

Ideally I think most people are hoping for early 2014.

I feel like this update is needed to keep some of the classes fresh and a bit more variable. I mean look at the number of weapons that a warrior has access to vs the number a Guardian can use – obviously a warrior should have more but the Guardian does appear to be lacking in choice somewhat.

When would you (as the GW2 community) want these changes introduced and what do you feel is the extent of the urgency for them, if at all?

With the recent large updates involving ascended items / new skills do you feel that there will now be a lull in the updates that we saw from Anet for a while?

To be honest, I’d prefer it if the devs instead looked at making the existing weapons more balanced so players don’t just gravitate to one or two sets of “must-have” weapons. Every single profession has one or two weapons (sometimes more) that never see the light of day because their skills are just woefully underpowered compared to other weapons.

I’m waiting them specially for necromancer, necro needs more power weighted weapons with aoe attacks. Current melee+single target ones doesn’t help. Plus I’m looking forward to see new legendary weapon skins.

The real concern is what would these weapons be? A flail, crossbow, two handed axe, a wand (lol). You know, it has to make sense in the selection we already have. Who knows.

While I understand your point, Guardian is a very poor example to use. Guardian has the second biggest selection of usuable weapons types in the game I believe (after Warrior, of course), even if they can’t dual-wield (which IMO wouldn’t make much sense on a Guardian anyway). Also, Guardian perhaps has the least amount of “unused” weapons of any class. The only Guardian weapon that never really sees any play is the Torch, and hey, it’s still good to keep one on hand for lighting up dark areas!

That being said, I do feel the game has come to a point were we do need more weapon skills availiable for classes, and if extra weapon-types were unlockable via Skill Points, well, it’d give people some extra horizontal progression (so Anet could increase the amount of things needed to “complete” your character without doing something utterly stupid like increasing level cap or disastrous like introducing another new equipment tier).

However, I believe they said they are more likely to give currently existing weapons to more classes first, which probably makes the most sense anyway. Why introduce new weapons when currently existing weapons that the class just doesn’t have access to yet could quite easily fill the roles you are looking to add?

Try playing an engineer first and then comment on the lack of guardian weapons :p

Agreed, I know they’ll come back with “but this weapon is for this niche” type of argument…that’s great and all but no one is playing that niche because it’s not effective. As soon as there are clear meta builds (ie pve warrior greatsword/axe/mace) the balance is failed.

Different weapons should offer different play styles, not varying levels of effectiveness like they currently do.

Let us buy vendor mats (eg spools of thread) in 250 stacks, end the excessive clicking.
