ETA on gliding in Tyria?
ETA? Somewhere between “never” and “when there’s permafrost in Bali.”
12th of Nevuary.
ANet may give it to you.
Not until at LEAST the next expansion, if not later. It would require them to rework all the zones in the game without gliding in order to incorporate it, otherwise it would be riddled with bugs and people getting to places they shouldn’t be.
not until they figure out a way to disable it in JPs and even then it’s doubtful
I want a double jump while we’re suggesting dream features.

Double jump is coming in the next expansion, you can bet on it. Probably with the dodge button. people will complain about anet nerfing jumpdodge. Expect a grappling hook after that.

People already get to places they shouldn’t be. And i can’t imagine why it would be that difficult to disable it near a JP. This really isn’t that far fetched. lol

It may be easier said than done to disable it on certain parts of a map but have it enabled on other parts.

I can’t say whether it is or it isn’t. But I think one of the coolest parts of the new content is the gliding and I thought it would be neat if we could use it anywhere. Unfortunately, it seems as if I’m the minority on this. Shame.

Rework all the maps. Give all objects collision. When you’re next to a JP you get a “Grounded” boon…..keeps the wings from being deployed…..it really can’t be that hard to make a boon like that….it would operate no different then costumes not allowing combat.

BOOM first person ever on my side… Even my whole dang guild is like, “Nuuuu impossible, gold sink in WP travel, places you can’t reach, blaaaa”

If that was the case there would be no waypoints in the new zones…..yet even with gliding I use them….
Right, the point I was making to them was that you have to consider the most convenient, lazy option and that will always be WPing.

The real problem is people escaping the map. Being able to glide literally right out of the game – where you’ll start seeing things like the edges of the texture files used to decorate the ground, or odd polygons, or things like a sideways slice of a terrain map…
Just google up various posts people have made from assorted games when they manage to find a bug and fall through the world map…
When Blizzard added flying to their old world, they only did it after they remade all the old zones – because they had to go back and fill in all of these spots, and make sure they didn’t have any gaps that players could ‘fall through’…
(and I recall submitting a few bugs about my toon falling through stuff…)

It’s possible that was never the question.
The question is whether its worth the time (and thus money) that it would take to implement for zones that can be traversed just fine without gliding, and that gliding wouldn’t really add much to?
I’d wager that from Arenanet’s perspective it is not. Not only that, they may actually want to maintain the “wow factor” for new players of not seeing anyone gliding around in the core maps. I know when I did my first HoT BWE, just walking in to verdant brink test and watching a guy jump off a cliff I was like “nooooo, dummy” and then he winged on outta there and I was like “woah, cool, that’s different”

Rework all the maps….
And that’s the problem right there. That’s not something they can whip up on a Sunday afternoon when business is slow. Right now they are extremely busy. They just released a new expansion. Bugs must be squashed and and all sorts of interactions watched and changed as needed.
In the back of that, they are most likely already planning the next expansion. Working out the story line and sketching the maps. Figuring out new crafting, new weapon skins, new armor, new stats, new mobs….. I sincerely doubt they have the time to go back to vanilla Tyria and rework all the maps so there aren’t map breakouts by people flying over borders, through holes in the maps and whatever else people can figure out.
Gliding in the old maps is a nice dream but ultimately too work extensive.
Maybe parachuting though is an option. No lateral movement but a parachute that deploys when you jump and drops you down slowly. I can see that where I can’t see gliding.

I’d love to use gliding in mainland Tyria but at the same time i can see how it would break some JPs . Oh and for the record i HATE JPs so its not like im some JP fanboy who doesn’t want them to become easy .
It would be a colossal waste of time to rework all the maps for this and would be like a red rag to a bull for everyone who didn’t buy HoT.
Personally, I’d rather they put that effort into producing new maps.
Also of Anet do this core game player would complain so fast pay to win because have to have HoT for glider. Player with no glider in core game area would say disadvantage. Many thread on this would start 3 second after it happen.

Most jumping puzzles are in enclosed spaces or significantly higher than the surrounding terrain in the first place, and even if they weren’t they give garbage rewards so who cares.

On the other hand, seeing HoT-owning people gliding around central Tyria would be like a giant glowing neon sign saying “buy HoT and you can do this too!” to holdouts and F2P players.

If I were Arenanet, that’s not really a message I’d want to send. “look, that guy is immune to fall damage, but you, silly free to play player, just died”
That’s a negative reinforcement method, rather than a positive reinforcement method, which isn’t a great way to sell stuff.
Currently, what a f2p guy that might be on the fence sees is people around him using cool skills or skins, but those people aren’t really in posession of some kind of huge advantage he doesn’t have in the content he has access to. Making people want things is a much better way to sell than making people need things.

sometime between the end of the universe and never.
that being said, i wouldnt mind it however i know of at least 20 areas i could get to that your not normally supposed to get if i could use gliders in Central Tyria
Never
If you read the information that was given you wouldn’t be asking this.
Masteries are skills and techniques we learn in and for a specific area.
Gliding will NEVER be anywhere other than the JUNGLE
It took them almost a year to make 4 HoT maps, they still missed half their deadlines and people are still breaking the maps this is never going to happen.
