Q:
[Economy] Lodestones
Its usually bad for players that need them and good for players that want to farm and sell them.
To the economy it doesnt really matter because you have to see prices in general in relation to the gold that is in the economy and is coming in on a daily basis (and destroyed through gold sinks).
Most of the time, prices in general rise and fall with the amount of gold in game (inflation/deflation).
Season 2 for example had a high output of t5 fine mats (claws, fangs etc), especially during the festivals (halloween and wintersday for snowflakes) and they nearly lost half their value within 4 months. Now the bulk of those t5 mats is used to craft rare weapons to forge for precursors. So precursors lost a couple of hundred gold in value in same cases. But as t5 mats also make up a good amount of daily loot for end game players, they got less gold for their loot compared to 4 months ago, which means the average time to farm the gold to buy a precursor didnt really got shorter, even though they got cheaper.

Let me correct the phrase above “good for the players that CAN farm and sell them” because people keep saying it’s an equal playing field for the farming situation but it’s definitely NOT that at all in this game. This game is the only game out there right now that uses DR the only MMO that uses that archaic system to this day and it affects people’s accounts negatively everyday.
I think it would be bad if they raised in price. This game’s economy was perfectly fine in the beginning of the game, it had all of the elements of a healthy economy and continued on until the first loot nerfs began. They didn’t outright proclaim it but when they nerfed the loot and added DR they declared that legit farmer players had no place in their game. I think they underestimated just how many healthy economies in mmo’s out there are driven by this kind of player and just how many players play that way because that’s been the standard for years.
If the prices increased it would be ongoing of a central problem. It would be bad. If they’d decrease that would be a benefit to the rest of the economy because people could actually make the items they needed. I think instead of adjusting the prices directly they should remove the anti-farmer systems in place to allow people to go get the items they need without having to farm gold or make certain centrally required items available from karma vendors directly.

I think DR on drops is highly overrated.
IIRC John Smoth said recently that virtually no one has hit DR when it comes to drops.
DR wasn’t implemented to stop or limit farmers, but to curtail bots.
Now if you set a bot to run the same group of mobs in CS, and let it run for 10 hours straight, that bot will be far less effective.
Now as an active player you can certainly farm a group of mobs, without ever hitting DR. Unless of course you were running the same path, and killing the exact same mobs for 8 or more hours a day.
However, as a farmer myself I couldn’t stand do that for more than a couple of hours max. No where near the threshold for drop DR to kick in.
You can still farm, and farm effectively without ever having to worry about DR. A farmer will eventually have to stop, clear inventory, sell things, do something else, etc. at some point, even if they are farming for 8 hours straight. Which means, they generally have to leave a zone, or visit a vendor, or whatever at some point, in that case, they are breaking the DR threshold, and thus don’t have to worry about it.
In short, DR doesn’t effect farmers as much as people like to think.

Based on the info in the latest blog post the reverse seems more likely(charged going down in price to be closer to the rest).
DR only applies to weapon / armor drops but not to crafting mats.
I always love when people complain about it and have never really noted that.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

Site your reference for that?
DR stops all drops it’s not tuned to key for only certain items and it’s used to stop loot period.
Tell that to the people who reported not getting any loot and people who are still reporting whole chests disappearing from events.
Anyway, Karma could easily fix this problem as well so that people wouldn’t have to use gold for every single piece of anything in the game. The cost of lodestones would then not matter.

I thought the no loot or chests were bugs and not at all related to DR?
Unless they just kept a character parked at the event, and completed the event, then logged back out? If they did that for awhile, than it could possible trigger DR.
Although I do agree that DR, if ever reached would effect all drops, and not just drops of a certain type.

That isn’t DR, that’s a bug where your event credit sticks. You have to leave the map in order to reset your event status and the chests will work again.

I have farmed hundreds of hours Arctodus in FGS for T6 mats, and often noted
every 30 minutes how much i got .. and even after farming for 10 hours the
numbers didn’t change, beside the usual RNG.
And people complain about much while having no real clue .. i only have to look
about all those lag threads. Wish really people would need a driver license for
the internet.
And yes .. there is DR after maybe an hour .. i really notice that stuff like weapons
and armor gets less .. but like i said .. it doesn’t affect crafting mats. T6 and T5
blood, claws and fangs drop the same even after farming 10 hours at the same
spot.

Let’s say all the lodestones for some reason become relatively the same price as the charged lodestone (3gold), would that be bad or good for the economy? What would change? Sorry I know it’s a very broad question but I just need some opinions to get my thought process going.
Anet can we pleeeeeze get the economy subforum back?
(1) Lodestone prices are tied to supply and demand. Charged Lodestones are demanded the most because they make the prettiest weapons: shiny Legendaries, Dwayana and Foefire weapons, infinite light, Mjolnir, etc.
If anet made new shiny weapons needing things other than charged lodestones, this would be good news. It might increase lodestone prices, but it is good news.
The rarest lodestones might even be crystal lodestones, which are useful for zero legendary, zero collection weapons, and few non legendary, but shiny, skins. They are the cheapest, beacause they are the least demanded.
(2) In HoT Lodestone supply may go up (anet reveals that map event rewards will include lodestones), or down (skill points used to promote cores to lodestones are being nerfed).
(3) Price shifting may cause lodestone prices to rise. If demand for a legendary is 3k, and the price of one component part of the legendary (ectoplasms) collapses, then prices of the other component parts may increase because crafters have more money to spend on these parts. Ectoplasms seem likely to collapse as anet moves away from ’tossing rares in the forge for an RNG precursor.
DR is certainly a real thing, but realistically you need to be farming in a group to hit it. Before SW was introduced I used to farm kakra shells in Southsun with zergs of players. The DR was quite easy to notice there due to the large farm event. The first few times you do the large farm event I get on average 8-12 T5 blood 0-3 T6 blood and 5-10 blue/green items. After an hour I would get: 0 T5 blood, 0 T6 blood, 0 blue/green items, 5-10 junk items.
The change is drastic and noticeable.
On topic, realistically lodestones, with the exception of charged, are pretty cheap and easy to get. Even charged are easy to get, but they are used in soooo many different things that there is a much higher demand for them. Glacier and Crystal lodestones drop just as frequently but have close to 0 uses. The price on lodestones is mostly demand driven, not supply driven. 3g seems to be the price in which farming lodestones becomes as profitable as other ingame activities, so that is probably the highest they will go, since if they go higher it will be more profitable to farm lodestones then do anything else in the game and thus more people will farm them.
It is possible for them to lose value if the HoT crafting recipes don’t use them, or for underused ones to gain value if there are new recipes for them, but overall the economy won’t be effected all that much imo.
