Just wanted to share my story with Ecto Gambling. I know a lot of you don’t really care, but I feel like telling it to those who might be considering it or who might be a gambling addict like myself lol.

It was a few months ago, I just got back from a long hiatus. I learned of people talking about Ecto Gambling and wondered what the heck it was. I did a lot of searching on the Wiki to find out what it was, and where to find the Skritt responsible.

It wasn’t too long after finding him and playing a little that I got addicted, really badly addicted. I made a Sunrise and combined it with the Twilight I had to make an Eternity. I sold the Eternity on the Trading Post. I then set out to gamble a little bit.

Every time I thought I was done and was going to stop, my anger got the better of me and I get going. I spent HOURS at this spot Ecto gambling. Always doing the Ascended bags. After all these hours, the only thing I was left with was 50g and 100 Ecto.

I quit for a while after this, but just came back to play Super Adventure Box yesterday. I got back into Ecto gambling, figured what the heck? It can’t hurt me that bad since I only had 100g and a stack of Ecto. I began to get really lucky. After a few hours, and selling a lot of Ecto later, I was up 7,900g and had 4 stacks of Ecto left.

I decided to play a little with all that I earned today. Started out with a stack of Ecto and 5,000 gold. Spent a long time going back and forth with my gold count. But eventually, I had to go to work. I ended up losing 4,000 of the gold I won before. But I had 8,000 Ecto to sell in its place.

So I hope this story gives you a little idea as to what can happen on both extremes and to always be cautious when gambling. The rush/anger can be extremely overwhelming and make you do things you never thought you would in a million years. So if you get ahead, take the gold and stop. You will thank yourself later for it.

it can actually be worse than an actual casino. since you can buy gems and turn them into gold to use to gamble ectos

I did that before, with about $100 worth of gems. I have also spent real money on Black Lion Chests gambling and even Mystic Forge Stones with random exotics to try for pre’s back in the day.

Oh ectogambling, I love and hate it.

I started with 400 gold and 1000 ectos, had a high of 6000 gold (including ectos) and dropped down to 2000 gold and 1000 ectos when I finished the achievement. I ended up gambling some more and lost 1000 gold so I called it quits.

Recently I’ve been relatively inactive so I decided to gamble 300 gold / 750 ectos and BAM, I got the 2000 gold drop which I promptly spent to avoid ectogambling further.

Based on semi-systematic published data, my best guess for results are

• On average, you’ll lose a modest amount of value (5-25 silver per attempt).
• In practice, you’ll either be in a nice winning streak or a horrid losing streak: being up or down by 500g or more seems common.
• The horrid losing streaks are obviously more common than the nice winning streaks.

In other words, the OP’s experiences are typical.

I love the ecto gambling , I got 3 of the shared inventory slots, 2 for my perms salvage kit and one for the ecto gambling, which also servers as my personal vendor. I’ve made plenty of gold with to the point of where I just spend gold on stuff just because. When I was making my twilight, just for fun I decided to start from scratch and see how long it’ll take me by just gambling Ectos and fsrming gold just to gamble Ectos , it took me only 1 week to get the gold to craft it.

My story:
– Down 1000 gold
– Up 4000 gold
– Lost all that 4000 gold
– Lost another 5000 gold (and counting)

Something in me hopes that redemption can happen at some point, but I think it’s probably better to stop trying.

Let’s face it though, if people won more often than lost, the price of Ectoplasm would drop like a lead balloon, and people will have something new to be angry about.

Wait… there’s an achievement that goes along with ecto gambling? Seriously? I ran into that skritt, looked on the wiki to see what it was all about, and walked away.

I was at 300g and maybe 650 ectos the other week, so since I was about to sell a stack I figured I’d go try my luck, buying just the Ascended glob. If I lost the 100g seed money, I would stop.

10 buys later I was around 1,000g (total) and had turned that one full stack of ectos into 800-something and I figured I should quit while I was ahead.

Probably going back soon with the same rules, and only starting when I feel that I can comfortably lose 100g on nothing.

I was wondering what to do with all gold and ectos hoarded for Legendary.
I gambled. I lost all. No need for another Legendary, MO was right. Silly me.

I read your story, and decided to gamble a few ectos. Now I have 10g and 4 ectos left.

oh man it hurts, i started with 2.3k gold, got up to 4.2k and now at im 700g.

The #1 rule when it comes to gambling, people. “NEVER bet more than you would be willing to lose.”

As you’ve heard, you can win big, but you can also LOSE big. I completed this for the achievement (by betting one at a time whenever I had an overflow Ecto stack), and I ended up slightly ahead, then called it quits there. Don’t rely on Ecto gambling as a way of earning income, because it will certainly come back to bite you in the kitten when you least expect it.

On the rare occasions I’ve had an “overflow ecto stack,” I haven’t had an “overflow gold coin stack” and vice versa. As a consequence, I stopped after the first achievement point (fortunately, I was ahead).

I’m just going to say a quote “You should never trust any Skritt”.
