Hello all, I had a few questions about salvaging for ectoplasm and was wondering if anyone had some ideas.

1. I know a general rule is that +70 items reward ectoplasm, but I wanted to clarify something. Does a level 76 item (let’s say a rare greatsword) have an improved chance to reward an ectoplasm than a lvl 72 item (same item mentioned)?

2. Do the types of “rare” items improve the chance for ectoplasm i.e greatsword vs throwing axe vs hammer vs ….etc

3. This last one may be silly, but of course exotics offer an improved chance for ectoplasm compared to rares, right?

I seem to remember that exotics do produce a higher average number of ectos over rares. I think it was roughly 1.25 from exotics Vs 0.90 for rares. But the cost difference between buying rares and exotics is too great to bother.

Check the type of salvage kit your using. Master’s or Mystic are the better ones without buying Black Lion.

I suspect you’re thinking about the difference between mystic salvage kits and black lion kits.

Kit quality: A controlled test reports that Master’s and Mystic Salvage Kits yield about 0.875 ecto/rare, and Black Lion Salvage Kits are anecdotally reported to give about 1.25 ecto/rare:

It’s also important to note the above poster posted averages. You might salvage three sometimes and sometimes zero, mostly anywhere inbetween. But over time they average out.

Ah, that’s right, my bad.

lvl 68 rares give the chances as vl 80 rares

The best way to improve your ecto drop chances is to use the best salvage kit possible (the one with 80% drop rate)

I never salvage exotics for ecto, i find selling them on tp gives me more gold that i can use to buy more ectos than i would get via salvage(0-3?)

Exotics should always be salvaged with Black Lions Kits to collect Dark Matter.

I only salvage the ‘cheap’ exotics that are not worth much on the TP.
