Ectos and piles of crystalline dust
Best update in a while.. Why should we feel sorry for you trying to play the market?
My fun laughs at your server pride.
Dust needed to be adjusted, badly.
Meanwhile, ectoplasm is easier to obtain than dust and is plentiful.
Give the prices a week to settle.

It’s just how things are. Lots of people were complaining about the dusts being too hard to get, so they fixed it (or attempted to fix it, we’ll see how it goes in the longer term). Just like in RL if you buy something and it turns out to go on a sale the next day, or in the stock market if you purchase lots of stock in a company and the next day there’s a big scandal driving the share price down.
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.
Should have been patient. It was obvious dusts were going to go down. Nothing gets that expensive (except precursors) without something being done to balance the market. Ectos were brought down and t6 venoms and bloods both went down due to the massive farming from the karka event. Now it’s dust’s turn. What’s next? Nobody knows.

Never make big investments prior to patches, you never know what’s going to change.
Unless you’re trying to guess market trends to make a profit, at which point, you guessed wrong, deal with it.
This is a really clever way to fix 2 problems at once: the inflation of T6 dust due to ridiculous rarity, and the deflation of ectoplasms since the increased availability of rares, without resorting to asinine solutions such as increasing their rarity again (for example, by lowering the return rate on rares).
Nothing but good things to say about ANet on this one.
Dust wasn’t hard to get…Anet killed Orr and drove the prices up on dust…this update means they have zero plans on fixing Orr….I am sad…I really liked that place.
i still hate how much they dropped, i can’t believe it, lol..
ectos are already falling again.
@OP…if you are a TP flipper/investor…you can play the game and not expect to be burned every now and then…
On the other hand if you were going to craft and/or use them in some other way…yeah, I would be kitten ed also.
I just bought my Lodestones for my Legendary and just learned they plan on making Lodestones easier to get…they didn’t say how yet though.

I wasn’t a flipper, i’ve actually worked hard to get the dust, i was gonna craft a legendary with it..

And you still can, you just weren’t market-savvy when you got it. Them’s the breaks, man, you just have to roll with it.
As the price of Ecto’s dropped, I started sitting on the ones I had saved up over the last month or so. Consequently, I am very pleased by this change as I have 3 full stacks of them sitting in the bank.
I think it’s great! I like this initiative. We need these kinds of solutions for lodestones and for the other more-rare-than-water-in-a-desert T6 materials and we need them from salvages as well.
I sincerely hope this is the first of many such corrections to the loot issues players face, it’s fine not to want farmers, but give us another means of acquiring these mats and we’ll be happy to use them.
I also bought 100 Onyx lodestones, i actually bought all my mats for my twilight, and it feels like its all wasted..
I dont even feel like continuing farming actually.
I dont even feel like continuing farming actually.
So stop if you’re that bothered by it, but know that you do it to yourself, and that no one else is doing it to you, especially not ANet.
I expected dusts to drop in price eventually, there was a huge thread pointing out their insane prices.
Thus I bought none.
I know how you feel man. I just started being able to farm karka shells with great ease about 2 days before the Southsun updates. Before the update I was raking in silver. 2 days later I wasn’t.
This is not Anet’s fault by any measure. Just unlucky.
It’s like real life investing, when EVERYONE and THEIR MOTHER is telling you to invest, you should be selling.

I always thought that dust is trash loot. I have vendored huge amounts of dust.
Seafarer’s Rest EotM grinch
On another note… im glad i bought 1000 ectos while they were 17s each.
Haha, it happens…. I.E, I wanted to make my quip so bad that I sold my limited edition dyes for a mere 150-200% profit (which I know can go to 300% if I waited 2 months) early. Wait 2-3 days for price to settle before/after patches before buying.
Well only flipper and farmer gonna kitten ed here.I’m glad I sold mine off before the patch hit.Well just some pocket money for exotic set though.
Considering how Southsun was causing the price raise you probably shoulda waited, but yeah I’d be upset too, but it can’t be helped. /comfort
As for me, I sold all the dust I had during the price rise.
Lesson learnt I hope.
Clicking buy means you agree with the price. It may not be fun to hear but you have nobody to blame but yourself. The BLTP isn’t a retail store, there is no 30-day price guarantee.
I know, i know, but it’s just so sad.. i could’ve saved 40g, but i guess you never know, and i couldn’t tell it anyways..
I just have to bite the bullet i guess, its just lots of gold i could’ve saved, and if lodestones are dropping as well, i’ll lose even more :/
I’m just mad at myself for not pressing that SELL button last night before bed.
Insane collapse. .. but yes, good for the economy.
Let’s say there’s a sudden drought and water becomes extremely scarce and expensive. I decide to buy up thousands of bottles of Dasani to make sure I’ll have enough for a while. The government then drills a bunch of wells and water suddenly becomes plentiful again.
I mean, I’d certainly regret having spent all that money on water, but I couldn’t really object to everyone having easy access to water again, could I?
How to Condi Reaper on a budget
Everything I say is only in reference to PvE and WvW.
yeah, i know, and i get all of your points, but its still a hard loss, and it still made me feel like stop farming :P ..
i still hate how much they dropped, i can’t believe it, lol..
ectos are already falling again.
ectos are already falling because of how many 15s rares there are on the tp and the fact that there are hundreds of settler’s exotics that are on the tp around 50s too.. But really as everyone else said this NEEDED to be done, dust was used for far too many things in addition to making legendaries for it to have been at 40s
yea imo the price was still the effects of the lyssa nerf on the market. peoples source dried up and it temporarily caused prices to spike. i doubt they would of lasted but oh well we will never know
I like it. Not only is it a much needed change, it actually makes sense since one can argue that dust is just dried ectoplasm anyway.
It would actually make sense if all rare/exotic items had a chance to drop Fine mat’s of every tier, since they’re in the item anyway. This is especially true when you consider that, in many cases, it costs more Fine mat’s to make a rare/exotic than any other material.
I don’t mean give us a 50/50 chance to get back all of the Fine mat that went into something. Maybe a 15% chance to get back 1-5 fine mat’s based on the level of the item. Since I’m sure that making it so that the specific mat from the specific title (blood from berserker for example) would take more work, just make it a random Fine material. Not enough to make a real profit, but enough so that you get a bonus every now and then.
EDIT: The price of t6 dust had very little, if anything, to do with the Lyssa nerf. In a single day/patch a huge number of people went from farming Orr events to farming Southsun events. Even if the drop rate of Karka Shells hadn’t been increased, we would have seen a corresponding lowering of their prices. In fact, the price of t6 dust was rising even before Lyssa was nerfed.

I’m sorry OP but I feel no sympathy for your situation. Had you taken the time to research the market a bit you would have realized that T6 Dust was at their peak and it was not a good investment if you were trying to turn a profit. Ectos however were at a record low and definitely worth the risk since Anet was bound to do something to bring their value back up.. Glad I bought a 250 stack of those when they were 17s a piece. I gambled a bit on the Southsun Minis and bought 20g’s worth, hope they skyrocket now that the event is over.

the price was rising even before the lyssa nerf cause a bunch of other farm spots had been nerfed driving people away from Orr. Lyssa was just the final blow to the farming community.

I was also one of those people who bought like 30g worth of dust; however, I don’t really mind. This is because I saw it coming and decided to buy anyways cause I’m somewhat impatient. Clearly, the dust cannot stay at 40s a piece if it is one of the most used materials.
Seems like the people who touched the dust in any way are unhappy. I stayed away when they were hitting 5s (from 1s) each and regretted it ever since. But I’m glad that this solution was found. It counter balances the two. But I fear that something else will be nerfed to make it harder to get ectos now.
The price of T6 dust was going up since November and the famous “Jan 28th” (at least to me) accelerated the inflation.

If they actually readded them to drop rates i might care as it is nope keep ruining the economy one item at a time…
Well, yeah.. i just hope i can get back into the mood and start farming again soon, like farming a lot..
It’s just still sad that i could’ve saved around 40g, this is lots of gold for me, thats why i was so sad, lol ^^
A lazy fix to an artificial problem that ANET created. Both the saturation of the market with ecto, and the “shortage” of dust.
With the last update it becomes clear that they nerfed farming areas ahead of dragon bash and the high rate of drop of dragon coffers. Dust scarcity was a side effect.
I don’t like dust being tied to ecto and vice versa at all. Seems odd and out of place.
I have yet to salvage a ecto, but has anyone figured out the “average” return of dusts?

Depends on which salvage kit you use. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/bltc/For-Science-Ecto-to-Dust
I like it. Dust prices have plummeted, and I’ll be needing a lot of it. Though of course, if I had bought a bunch of dust just before this update, I wouldn’t be liking it as much. =P

Yeah, I regret not selling the 250 I had laying around for my legendary and just buying them again…oh well…these patches always favor the people who don’t have jobs anyways lol. Was at work when the patch launched anyways so wouldn’t have made a huge profit by the time I got home.
Good thing I always sold them. ;p
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
