Im trying to get infused fractal back piece (250 ectos) and I wanted to know, on average, how many ectos other players got a week.

Im only level 6 in fractals so I know I have a ways to go and I hear that as you get higher the loot gets better, but at the moment I’m getting about 1 yellow per run. Im going to do a bit of forcasting here and presume that I will get 3-4 per run once I hit about level 15 fractals. So, lets breakdown a typical night of play for me:

Run fractals twice; get 6 yellows; = 5 ectos
Run COF twice; get a little over a gold to buy ectos with and spend the tokens on yellows to salvage some ectos = 6 ectos
Go smash around cursed shore to complete daily and do some gathering to craft a rare to salvage = 1 ecto

Total 12 ectos a day and I get to play like this 3 days a week so grand total = 36 ectos a week

Now, Im trying to make a conservative estimate. I know I may get a yellow while smashing around ore in my magic find gear and I may even pick up a couple yellows while running COF (not in magic find, I dont want to go down that road ). But assuming Im having run of poor luck, I think 12 a night is a pretty good estimate, once Im running fractals lvl 15.

Please let me know if Im bat kitten crazy. And most Importantly, let me know how many you get a week on average. Thanks

Seems like a good estimate really. I don’t play every day and the times i do it’s about 3-4 hours at night, more on the weekends. I don’t run a lot of dungeons either, but do Maw, and Orr Zerg and my dailies. I typically net about 20-25 a week, but most of the time i’m funneling them off to the wife to make clovers. I’ve been keeping a stack around just for me to use though.

You could always just sell everything you find and buy them to, might get you a few more a week that way.

You are doing great. I have gotten 21 in January. I was proud of that until now….

Globs of ecto are roughly 35-40s. Rares can be sold for roughly 35-40s. I don’t even bother playing the salvage game (unless I have some Black Lion Salvage Kits laying around), I just sell the rares and buy the ecto

That being said, I get 3-4 rares a day (more if I cash in tokens), so anywhere from 3-4 ecto a day to 9-12 if I’m lucky with BLSKs.

I have not gotten an Ecto since December. But I don’t run dungeons very often so this is from open world loot.

That’s higher than what I get, if I’m actively trying I get about 6-7 a week.

But I don’t run fractals, so I get fewer rares and I don’t buy them.

I’d say I get around 5-10 ectos a week. Maybe more. I try to run a fractal tier 2 fractal daily (1 even diff in the 10-19 tier) and a tier 1 fractal daily (1 even diff in the 1-9 tier) everyday.

Playing a couple hours everyday, im looking at 50 a week.

I’ve been extremely lucky with drops and I did manage to get a nice amount of BLSK’s out of the chests for keys. So i typically salvage all rares and exotics into ectos daily, unless the exotic is worth more than the possible 3-5 ectos + mats and the rune i would get from salvage, sometimes it’s not, although rarely. Between Maw, Jormag and an orr zerg last night i walked away with 3 rares and an exotic, which selling the exotic netted me about 3g 40s. I think that equaled about 10 ecto or so and that in just about 4 hours time. It’s not like that every night, but i do get at least 2 rares a day.

Well cool. I was hoping to hear that I was doing poorly and that I could double my take by doing X. I hear you guys on the salvage game. It can be rough and sometimes you get less ectos than you had rares. I too, have gotten a little lucky with the daylies and gotten a few black lion kits so Im still playing the salvage game at lest till my kits run out. I am of course, presuming I will get 3-4 yellow weapon or armor drops every run in the higher fractals, so if that does not in fact happen then there goes half my stash.

But I have found that saving up your crafting materials (T5 Materials) and then crafting a yellow from them is a decent way. I deffinitly have a surplus of mithril so all i need is the blood, or venom sac for the insignia and Im good to go.

Also, going the dungeon route is pretty guarenteed, because if you run it twice you will have 1 gold which buys you 2 and a half ectos, and then you can take your 120 tokens to the lions arch guy and buy 4 yellows with that (that cannont be sold) and play the salvage game.

But yeh the rest seems like luck. Hopefully you find some yellows or oranges while getting the aformentioned materials in cursed shore and hopefully you get some drops in fractals.

I havnt found a better way to spend my time thus far. I have about 5 to 6 hours a night and it takes 2 hours to run fractals twice and another hour and a half to run COF twice (depending on the group, sometimes just an hour) And then you know, if I havnt finished my daily its off to somewhere to complete that. And now theres more content to see with the living shore stuff (Which helps level my alt ever so slightly).

Off topic but I dont know how people run out of stuff to do in this game

My luck seems to be higher than other peoples. When i am playing GW2 for more then the daily i can get 20-30 ectoes a week.

This is really sad to read.

I can’t remember the last time I got an Ecto, without buying a rare off the TP specifically to salvage it for an Ecto. I play WvW exclusively. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten a yellow. Or maybe I’ve gotten 1 or 2. I play about 12-15 hours a week probably.

@drwookie, Well the good news is, the things I want ectos for are for either cosmetic things or for playing in fractals (agony resistance) so unless you want to simply frighten people away with the blinding glow of you abysmal scepter (which I so hope happens someday) then you shouldnt need them too much. I like WvW as well and I can tell you that if I did not want to play PvE as well, I cant think of a reason I would need them. (Provided, I already had full exotic armor and jewlery)

Ya I don’t have a goal of getting a legendary so ectoplasms specifically don’t bother me much. However, I would like access to those ascended rings and the backpiece you guys get (it will happen eventually I know). Also just think of the extra income I would have if I was earning those ectos and selling them

If your going for the full upgraded Fractal Capacitor then you are looking at 500 ectos. The 250 is just to upgrade it to the beta capacitor infused, you then need another 250 to make it glow

I’m half way finished my gift of ascension and I’ll have my beta capacitor, I have 15 ectos so I need 235 more to go to fully upgrade it.

@Hasteo, Oh Im aware of the full cost for the glow. Im still debating if I want that. You know what really grinds my gears. I heard that you cant put in a resilient infusion (or any other infusion for that matter) and then upgrade it to the glowing version later. I heard that if you upgrade it later then you lose the infusion you had and then have to re-infuse it. Which means you cant have all the cool stats and work up to the cool look, you have to first get the cool look and then put in the cool stats. unless you like grinding out those karka shells and armored scales.

yeh, at my estimate of 36 ectos a week ill be going at it for 14 weeks before I get the glowy version. Thats over three months. If I end up going that route that will be my Legendary. I cant imagine working at something in a game for longer than that

a few hundred actually. Makes a nice little profit for me.

I get about 20 per day. I do lvl 30 fractal, lvl 20 fractal, lvl 10 fractal and salvage it all.

As well as any that I get on my ori/ancient gathering run.

They won’t, simply because too many players will have a store of badges and they won’t want players being able to buy a full set immediately with a stockpile of badges and/or karma.

@Kumu Honua, sounds like it really does get better the higher you go in fractals. How many yellows/oranges would you say you come away with from the lvl 30 run. If its around 10 that sounds like a really good use of ones time. If getting ectos is your goal anyway.

@Narkosys, how many hours would you say you play a week?

30-50 a Day, but I farm and craft then salvage for Ecto’s as well as getting the odd Rare.

30-60 a day from running CoF and the Fractals, and salvaging rares with a BLSK. I also run with a mystic forge, so all of my blues and greens go into it (keeps my inventory clean), which usually gets me an extra 1-3 rares per run.

I get about 5 a week. 1 per day from the 2 rares that drop in my Fractals 10 run (salvaged with mystic kit), and then I get no rares ever from anything else.

This question needs to be asked in two parts:

1 – Do you have the “Dr Bug”

2 – What is your ecto rate.

I have the DR bug. I see perhaps 5 a week if i’m lucky, most from the mystic forge.

I usually get anywhere from 4-8 yellows per run. (Note: I do not run MF gear.) It also depends if you get a high enemy count fractal like dredge vs something like….swamp that has almost no enemies.

I seem to average about 5 per fractal. But the level of fractal doesn’t matter. I get about the same yellows doing a level 10 as a 30.

Similar to above, about 4-8 per run. Maybe average 3 of those salvagable, not cores, so im getting about 2+ ectos per run. Really varies with luck.

I do however sell all my other loot and use the cash to put bids on the cheapest 70-80 rares i can find. If im lucky at the end of the day after 3-5 runs (10< with guildies is pretty fast) ill have 6-10g. ALL of that goes into buying rares and salvaging them.

I’m stacking up the ectos so quickly with this method I have no worries about hitting 250 before I even have fractal relics required for the gifts. I’m not using BL salvaging kits, never had one actually after lvling and gearing up four 80s, must be bad luck.

Ofc buying ectos outright would probably be the better option if you don’t want to take the salvaging risk, and would only be slightly slower than the salvaging route in the long run.

Not quite for sure if the only place to find ectos are in fractals, but I’ve been playing this game since closed beta. I have never found an ecto in the open world. I also do not run fractals, so maybe that adds to it.
