Efficient Way To Craft Marauder's Armour
Ascended armor is account bound so it will always be useable by any character you have with the same weight class, whereas exotic is soulbound so it will be stat-locked to one character permanently with a few exceptions. The materials needed for marauders is pretty cheap compared to stats like trailblazer’s and minstrel’s.
It really depends on costs vs use, if it is something you plan to use a lot then it might be worth investing in ascended armor.
Definitely, I’m after ascended for precisely the reasons you laid out. With that said, there are a myriad of ways to get it, including purchase from fractal and wvw vendors, and the good old fashioned crafting method. I’m trying to decide on the most efficient path in terms of time spent. I’m at fractal level 50, which probably determines the likelihood of the fractal vendor path being useful or not. I’m just not sure!
Marauder is one of he cheapest to craft directly.
I’ll go for direct craft : you can buy all the reciepes, and marauder set uses “standard” ascended things, and not “improved” HoT damask patches, so transmutation would be a waste of ectos and mats.
I’m not sure what you mean Thomas by “standard” and “improved”…Anet changed all ascended recipes to require Damask patches. It was part of their solution to the whole medium ascended armor being so cheap to craft, that resulted in sky high leather prices, and things haven’t really gotten better.
I recently crafted some medium gear and used gw2efficiency.com as a guide for which was the lowest cost to craft.
It doesn’t take the fulgurite-demanding Jewelled Damask Patch, like Viper’s or Commander’s does; that’s what they meant by “improved”.
I was looking at the crafting prices. 70g or so for one piece, that’s a tad steep. I think I will improve my AR to get into 75-100 fractals (just two more +9 AR infusions will do the trick) and hope for a couple of pieces to drop, and see how my gold and ascended material intake improves. Speaking of AR infusions, what’s the use for the super high level ones? It seems to me you don’t need to go higher than +9, and if you do it’s because you lack an infusion slot, which is still cheaper to purchase than to get a high infusion level.
