Elder dragons only in Tyria?
A comment on the other continents part of your post. This is a map of the world. Tyria is roughly in the middle and is part of a much larger land mass that we’ve never been to, although gw1 covered a bit more to the north. Cantha is the large Island directly south and Elona is the smallish, crescent shaped island north of Cantha, close to the coastline and the area above it. As you can see, there is one other large island/subcontinent to the west, but no other continents. There is supposed to be another dragon in the ocean between Tyria and Cantha, but there are no other continents for a dragon to be.

Elona is actually part of Tyria. Istan is the crescent part.

Yeah, I know. It’s actually a part of Elona. I wasn’t very precise about that as I was more trying to point out the general area where Elona is on the map than be specific about the island’s name. So, the island is Istan, a province of Elona where the main part is on the continent.

More correctly it appears the Elder Dragons are only active within the Western part of Tyria. If you look at the full world map we yet to see the Central and Eastern regions of Tyria in the GW series.
We have also yet to explore the Western Continent.

I’d imagine, as not only the devourers, but also the source of magic in Tyria, it’s not so much that the dragons only rise up where we are, although for meta game reasons that’s obviously the fact, but from a lore standpoint it’s just that civilization as a whole tends to rise up around these sources of power. So no matter where the dragons went to sleep, when they wake up again they’re pretty much bound to be surrounded by civilizations that owe their existance, at least in part, to the power that the dragons have been slowly seeping out in to the world.
I’d say there’s almost certainly a sleeping dragon beneath Cantha for instance, and that Kunnavang was one of it’s hatchlings, much like Glint and Kralkatorrik.
Basically, dragons don’t rise up because people are there, but instead people are there because dragons are.
I am surprised that no person posted this map which shows just how much of the world we really do not get to see and that is such a shame. :\
Isn’t there a dragon in the sea too? That forced away the creatures living there.

Yup. That would be Steve.
The dragons are only active around central tyria because the bloodstone was (and pieces of it stille are) in that region of the world.
The bloodstone was placed by the human “gods” after they brought magic to the world to contain and control the amount of magic, like a filter basically. This makes the bloodstones extremely potent batteries of magical energy that nobody is really exactly sure how to use, in in many cases where the pieces are.
We do know that it was once whole, and was broken apart and scattered by a volcano.
The dragons, as entities that eat magic, are naturally able to sense the shards, and are drawn to them. Why the dragons eat magic, or where they come from is a mystery. They may be naturally occuring phenomina reacting to the unnatural presence of magic. They may be ancient enemies of the human “gods” from wherever it was across the mists they came from. Nobody really knows.

Every one should check the wiki Tyria is a Continent and the Entire World

You need to do what the devs do and watch Wooden Potatoes. He actually did a lore episode recently explaining why all the elder dragons have settled in Tyria instead of other parts of world like Elona.

Thanks for the tip about WoodenPotatoes. I have been watching it nonstop and there is a lot I did not know even after playing the original Guild Wars.

I’ve been watching him also to get the lore. Right now I’m on the old Lets Play videos. There’s always something new to me he mentions.
