Full melee Ranger since August 2012
I run a necro as my main, and so far have no trouble forming or joining pugs for fractals or various dungeons.
Just read the ads, no group asking for your class, start your own. Simple.
__
and for dungeons I do fast clears all the time, its really not a big deal if people are asking for classes/zerk. Doesnt affect my gameplay at all.

Anyone have anything useful to add?
Don’t blame the people. Blame Arena Net for lazy boss and monster design.
I’m playing Guardian, and I would love to be playing full cleric healer in dungeons, but healing is horrible and not needed in PvE.
Remember Shiro boss in GW1? 2006 Game (before all the nerfs)? You couldn’t just stack and face roll your buttons. The boss actually moved, switched targets, dealt massive damage, used blocks, ect. In GW2? 2012 game? Yes. It’s astonishingly bad.
I’d love to have boss encounters where they have lower HP but are much more mobile and deal massive damage. But seeing how this game is targeted and casuals(no need to even dodge while playing open world/personal story) that’s not going to happen.
Remeber Liadri? That boss was awesome, the best fight I’ve ever had in GW2. People cried like little – though.

Ranger is good in small groups in WvW and ok in pve for their spirit and spring
Necro is good at anything pvp but not great in pve because of how conditions work
Thief’s design doesn’t fit with pve too well(stealth and then have heavy hits)
Engineer requires more work to play as effectively
Eles/War/Guard/Mes simply bring more support while maintaining high physical damage with a small bit of conditions. They are also easier to play.
I wouldn’t mind if certain fractals/dungeons were changed so that zerk tactics like skip stack n kill don’t work, as in If some parts of fractals became more puzzle-like and incorporated mini JP’s, and mobs that HAD to be killed to open/access the next area.
I have never been kicked from a group when I play my ranger. Just drop my spirit and melee with everyone else, no complaints.

mini jps/non-stacking strats like the harpy fractal?

Alot of zerk teams I find just use stability and skip all the harpies, and the jumping is literally just straightforward, if you actually had to think about where you had to jump i’d like that :P
First rangers are great for speed runs with spotter and frost spirt and Thiefs have insane single target burst for bosses and stealth for high lvl fractals.
Second I feel like no one has done high lvl fractals fights like Grawl, In the last fight if you don’t stop moving you get burned and there is a ton of lava pits that will kill you in less then a second if they hit also the boss can almost one shot you. In the shield phase a bunch of grubs spawn that do alot of dmg over time and can down your entire party while you have to break the shield(takes hits not dmg) and if you leave him be he will recover his health by killing a npc, after that you have to kill the grubs there is alot at lvl 50 while not dieing you need all the guardian reflects and heals(hell its the only fight I bring healing shout war when my party is having problems) then you have to do it 3 more times and there is no ooc because you are in a field with lava around you and you are always being waered down never at full hp. There is a lot more to the fractals at the highest lvl’s that fill a lot of the things people ask for. Sorry for my bad english

There is to much dmg at a 50 to skip it you need stealth or you have to kill them

Too bad 99% of rangers camp bearbow and don’t use frost spirit or spotter, which basically means they are a waste of space.
Make your own group. That’ll solve your problem. I myself run a warrior and have no preference. But if I write all welcome pro only. It means know your stuff or don’t bother. Time is money in this game and everyone wants to get gold as fast as possible. can’t get mad about that.
A Necromancer when played right will rock a dungeon to its core.
I get asked to bring my “Terrormancer” so they don’t have to put up with the Zerker player’s “holier than thou” attitude. I keep up a constant DPS from my build that ALWAYS gets me the full agro. I just laugh at the pile of bodies at my feet.
In a random PUG, I got asked my build in TA and I pinged my skills and listed my traits to the other necro in our group and his DPS and staying ability sky-rocketed in comparison to what his build was when he stepped into the dungeon.
Matter of fact, we tend to run 2 Terrormancers (wife and I) plus a flex Elementalist for support. The fourth is usually a lowbie along for the ride.
Just learn how to play each profession and let the elitist wait. Start your own group and don’t be afraid to let in a non-zerking profession, you might be surprised.

Your build gets you aggro because you’re probably wearing full rabid gear with lots of toughness.
1 Ele, 4 Warriors
1 Guard, 4 Warriors
All the variations that you need for everything and anything in GW2.
Having a Thief and Mesmer alt for fractals can come handy.
Yeah you shouldn’t blame the players, it is Anet’s fault that certain builds aren’t viable in PvE, and just nerfing direct damage does nothing to help those builds.
To all those calling people that run zerk and want only zerk in PvE elitist, get over yourselves. Trust me I used to run PVT on my guard, and defend the build tooth and nail. Then I made some friends who taught me how to play zerker. Not only is it more of a challenge. What I thought was a “speed run” (like the terrormancer posting in here) was nothing. I can finish CoF with my group in about 5-7 minutes. No condi build can do that. You shouldn’t get mad at the players that realize that the best way (thanks to Anet) to run dungeons is to go full zerk. It isn’t being elitist, it is being practical. You are more than welcome to run condi in dungeons in your own group, but don’t get mad at those of us that choose to do it the faster way.
And no I can’t forsee Anet ever fixing the mob AI since that would take forever. They were lazy in their implementation and thought make it hit hard, and have huge health! They took out the trinity and have terrible AI, so support/condi has no place in PvE. If you want your support or condi build to be worthwhile, then go do WvW or if you are condi you are also useful in PvP.
(And as an aside, necros running zerk gear are awesome in a dungeon. (Death shroud on my necro crits for 6-8k on auto attack while stacking vulnerability and might, and my daggers hit for 2.5k on auto attack). No class is useless in a dungeon, just certain builds are. Any class can equip zerk gear and be useful.

Please don’t associate the “lfg zerk heavies for cof speedrun” babies with real minmaxers, thanks.
Your breadown of class roles is screwy too btw.

Yeah I agree with this. Especially your class breakdown. Every seen the numbers on a zerk guard? They are amazing. In a true zerk group you don’t need defense beyond that which is native to each class. My group that I run with brings different classes to different things just to spice it up. Any class can be viable (some more than others sure), comp matters (i.e you don’t want the low dps of 5 mesmers), but there is no class that is nonviable if they are using a flat out direct damage dps build. Again look at my post about my zerk necro, that thing hits like a tank and I can get him to crit for 15k quite consistently on life siphon or ghastly claws.

All professions are invaluable when used right. Those that require particular professions do so usually because they themselves suck at those professios, which makes them think they are bad.
Simply avoid LFG that search for particular professions. They are just inexperienced and/or fooled by poorly finished guides.
I have characters of each profession and I’m yet to find something I can’t do with any of them. You just have to adapt to their playstyle.

I just checked my gear and I’m using full Carrion with 6 Superior Runes of the Undead.
Final Rest with Superior Sigil of Blood and Superior Sigil of Chilling.
Traits are:
Spite = 4 – III – VII
Curses = 4 – VI – IX
Death = 2 – V
Blood = 4 – III – VIII
Skills:
6 = Well of Blood
7 = Well of Suffering
8 = Well of Darkness
9 = Well of Power
0 = Flesh Golem
Wife uses the same thing except she uses Well of Corruption instead of Well of Darkness so that we can compliment each other. We also alternate when we use the Flesh Golem’s charge attack to keep our target down longer.
The wife and I share agro when we work together, but I can pull more because I lay down my marks and wells faster because I use Instant Ground Targeting and she uses Normal Ground Targeting.

You just proved his point. I don’t think you realize, but a lot of mobs use tough/vit to pull aggro, and not dps. You are pulling aggro because you are tanky, not because of your damage. I’m not saying your build is bad, but you are using a build that isn’t as fast as a zerk build. That’s why people don’t run condi in PvE. The time it will take you to match my zerk warrior’s 25K hundred blade crit is about 20 seconds on a good day. And I can do that about 3-4 times in 20 seconds. That’s why people zerk.

Mob agro is completely random.
Just few hours ago I played FOTM level 42, the flying lava boss.
Since my team had trouble staying alive, I reroled full cleric healer with nearly 3300 Toughness.
Boss almost never targeted me.
Don’t blame the people. Blame Arena Net for lazy boss and monster design.
I’m playing Guardian, and I would love to be playing full cleric healer in dungeons, but healing is horrible and not needed in PvE..
I also main a Guard and would love to have my spells basically be “Tome of Courage” and you know be useful xP …I couldn’t agree with you more though if you are not Zerker in Dungeon then you basically doing everyone a disservice. simply because fights are suppose to take 2 seconds against a wall with a FGS.
Some agro is completely random.
FTFY
The only class that still gets booted from PUGs are hunters.
I am seeing less and less 4man Warrior zerk groups now, and more like 1-3 warriors.
Ran 9 dungeons last night (2 being 1-9 and 10-19 fracs) and not once was the group ‘all zerk’
So, OP, I dont know where you are getting your info. But right now, its just not the case.

I’m not too concerned about whether I’m pulling agro or not. I can still handle mobs on myself while healing party members. Our friend that runs the Hybrid Elementalist just cracks up when she stops by to visit and I have a pile of dead at my feet while I chant “Bring out your dead!”

Since quickness was nerfed, I think mesmer has been replaced by eles in min max party.
Here is my summary of the classes:
Min max party: Warrior Ele
PUG friendly safe classes: Guardian Mesmer Necro
Must really know how class mechanics work in order not to hinder party class:
Ranger Engi
And Ranger used to be the worst in PvE imho, but now with all the buffs on Ranger pets as well as 2h sigils, necro is now the weakest class in terms of dps. Stacks of vulnerability arent going to cut it as other classes can also inflict those stacks. The prior buffs to necro are just not catching up
P.S My fun summary of the classes and their possible builds:
“Holy trinity” + 1 in GW2:
Tank – Necro, Warrior, Guardian, Mesmer (believe it or not)
Healer – Guardian, Ele, Engi
DPS – Warrior, Thief, Ele, Engi
Control – Ranger, Ele, Thief, Engi
GW2 special mechanic: Reflect – Mesmer, Guardian, Engi

I don’t think that people realize that there will always be min-maxer’s in every game. It doesn’t matter what you do, what you buff/nerf, what you change; there will always be something that is better than something else, and people will gravitate towards it.
Look at other games like LoL, WoW, and more. LoL for sure has “meta” champs that perform better than others and the same goes for WoW. So what do you do to stop this? Nothing, because there will always be min-maxers and there will always something that is superior to something else. So stop complaining about it, because it will always be like this.

We’re not complaining about minmaxers, we’re complaining about scrubs who think they are minmaxers but actually have no idea what they’re doing.
Ranger/Thief are actually pretty good for dungeon/fotm. But they are gear/build dependant (like all classes really).
Necros are okay for fractals. With the way things currently are, most dungeon fights are too short for Necro to really get any solid DPS out. Maybe they can address that if they ever release new permanent dungeons.
But really, just start your group if you don’t want to join those. No one is forcing you any which way. Play how you want to and they can play how they’d like.

Hey I’m a necromancer who has been playing since launch, if we’re built for power we’re actually a kitten good asset for the team. Dagger/Warhorn is actually really good for damage. Not to mention the fact that if the group is low on condition output to begin with we will still have that even when we build power. Deathshroud is a huge asset as well.
Ranger: I have found that the “Spotter” trait has made these guys soooooo much better. As long as they have spotter and use melee I don’t mind them in groups.
*Thief: * Why someone would refuse a thief is beyond me, the things they can do with SB are amazing. Not to mention they have the highest single target damage in the game (granted they aren’t p/p trash).
*Engineer: * Have excellent support abilities, and amazing damage output (have you ever SEEN a nade engi?) I have an 80 engi, they are better than people make them out to be.

Really don’t get why people would pay for that when anyone could take him out in a couple minutes with the standard henchmen.
I usually don’t join groups looking for certain classes cause these wannabe speedrunners always think they are God’s gift, and flip out over the smallest thing. It’s not fun. Any class combo can do the dungeon good enough for a pug… As long as everyone is wearing zerk gear of course. I kid, I kid… except not really.
But I generally don’t join those groups either, mainly because in my experience the no req groups are full of experienced zerkers anyway. Just nicer, more relaxed ones, who can laugh off the occasional snag.
I start doing my own CoF runs when fully 50% of the time since I started doing dungeons, the leader freaked out repeatedly about anything he deemed a mistake and left before the rest of the group could open the chest. This happened once when our group failed to complete the run in his required 5 min.
