Elewars vs Guildwars
You need to learn to play. its a simple as that. a mesmer can take down a two hit theif, so im sure you can take down an “OP ele.” Hell a crappy wanna be noob of a warrior can take down an ele. its all about the build. Get your self a cookie cutter build, learn to play it, adjust it and go.
stop asking for things that aint broke to be fixed – sais the mesmer
Because we have plenty of stuff that its broke and never gets fixed and the stuff that works gets fixed to suck. :P

either that or you fail at adapting. I like my answer better.
I got multiple Chars and with the Dagger Dagger tank build not any of my chars can take down a such an Ele and yes maybe you should look around 70-80% is already playing an Ele or has one underconstruction.

What do you like about it so much? That your suggestion is “don’t experiment, don’t explore classes, just go with the flow, do what everybody else does and you’ll be fine”? Is that the freedom of choice this game provides? A cookie cutter build that everybody uses? Why do classes have build options? And why isn’t it broken when there is a "best"choice? If anything, your answer supports OP by stating that the game balance is broken.

So you would love to play a game where is only 1 class use-able?
I went on a “break” already because of this bs ingame and ye if this game will be all about 1 class alot people will stop playing. ( just a guess but i doubt im wrong )
elementalist and thieves are probably the worst class to go against right now.
but i believe anet can balance it out nicely sonner than later.
its not like elementalist are “that” much better, just a tad
really?
My god, my whole point about ADAPTING was experimenting. Do you think cave men froze to death in the winter? no they experimented with this thing called fire.
I have a problem with these ridiculous cookie cutter builds your suppose to use.
Stop being mentally challenged, take what anet gave you and work with it. E
Wait…
Get your self a cookie cutter build, learn to play it, adjust it and go.
You were saying? And, no, changing two skills or 1 trait in a cookie cutter build does not experimenting make.
they are not the worst. nothing is the worst. its all about build. When people grasp that concept then they will see that every class is truly OVER powered. its about unlocking the ability and playing with the class.
This is becoming extremely frustrating to view as a player, and a forum poster.
I have never seen a thread on the general forums (though I’m sure someone will post one to prove me wrong ;P) regarding elementalists as OP in PvP or WvW. The only post I may have read were their AoE spells were annoying, not challenging, or impossible.
First, I saw Warriors and Guardians were extremely OP in WvW due to their classes not having a lot of bugs, and being well balanced.
Second, I read post after post regarding one-hit backstab thieves. Equally, I read posts to refute the entire idea that this build was OP by its very nature being incredibly easy to one shot the thieves themselves.
THEN the argument was perma-stealth
…Now, after ANet suggested they would look into adjusting single target spells (not just for ele’s) to be on par with AoEs… there is a complaint against elementalist’s AoE’s.
I wouldn’t even be posting this if these changes didn’t affect my gamplay as a PvE’er, but these trends really need to be tamed. The exaggeration alone is simply untrue considering I’ve seen / heard from friends, posters, and the few times I joined WvW, a variety of classes being played.
Perhaps, instead of this exaggeration, the truth behind this is a group of elementalists (guild members, friends, a formed party) was really encountered.
Either way these posts have proven to be pretty detrimental to the accused classes. Every one of these posts feels like a witch hunt without the true problem being addressed.

see as I have been arguing experimentation is dead. every class is OP, every class is UP. every class is something.
The problem with this player base is that they find a build, from a site, youtube, here what ever and they run with it. and when something goes wrong they dont try and fix it – they kitten.
A boon destroying necro build sorts out most elementalists I run into in WvWvW. Same with guardians or anything that likes to stack boons really.

Learn to play better.
Do you honestly think I am having fun playing the nerf game?
NO.
so i enjoy my ele that is full of bugs?
No.
Do i enjoy having my class nerfed every time someone has a l2p issue?
NO.
do i enjoy my class minus all the bugs?
Yes.
Why?
Because it gives me a challenge and lets me develop my skills so i can crush my opponent to make them cry for a nerf.
Class spells is not the thing that is “OP”.
Player Skill is “OP”.
I hope arena net care not to cater for those who don’t know what it takes to play an ele.
FYI, gear stats & Runes, those 2 words.

Mesmers > eles easily.
Elementalists are OP because you can equip as a tank and pick up traits that give you back a good chunk of damage. Plus, they are fast as lightning (literally) on the battlefield making them either impossible to catch when they run, or run away from when you’re hurt.
Thieves are OP because they can splatter a single non-bunker opponent before that opponent knows what hit them. They can also use stealth to get out of a fight provided they don’t get buried under AoE.
Warriors are OP because they wear heavy armor, can build for high damage, and still have very good toughness, health, and two regens. Add in a whole pile of options on group buffs, and they are just awesomesauce with sprinkles on top.
Mesmers are OP because portal. Oh, and because they can stack so many different conditions on their target even when using crit or direct damage builds. They also have access to stealth which combined with clone spam makes them a freakin’ pain to target.
Guardians are OP because you can’t kill them. You also can’t run from them as they have both a pull and an immobilize in their weapons skills. They even have the audacity to make everyone around them harder to kill which makes all their buddies OP too.
Rangers are OP because 20,000 point AoE’s from 1500 away is a great way to ruin a bunch of people’s day. Or because they throw traps at people. Or because while you’re chasing the ranger in circles, his pet kitty is smapping you upside the head for 5k+ a shot.
Engineers are OP because if they weren’t, why would they keep getting nerfed? Grenades has been hit twice already and is likely looking at getting it again come the AoE nerf which is proof positive that engineers were the mostest best killers on the battlefield.
Necros are OP because…um…err…
But here’s my body – So rez me maybe?
Mesmer, necro that can strip boons, and s/p thieves can rock eles.
This will be the first time I’ve ever posted this…. but OP, L2P
I think all of these “this class is OP” and “that class is OP” can be replaced with “I went into WvW wearing blues and greens and magic find and got stomped by someone wearing full exotics with a coherent build.”
Exotics OP, yo. Better nerf ’em.

omg i love this post made me giggle and wife asked me what was so funny rofl
I saw Eles tanking 5 or 6 for over 10 minutes. The ele player can be really good player but i don’t think that the others 6 enemies were the worst players ever….
Anyway i’m not here to say how OP is ele. I have to agree with op about something.
You just need to log in and look around to see that there is a 40% eles, 15% guardians, 15% warriors, 10%mesmer, 19.9999999999% thiefs and 0.0000000001% necros and engieneers.
I do 1 or 2 instance each day always with random players, i don’t remember last time i did group with an engieneer, seriusly i can’t… maybe 1 or 2 months.
Here there is a problem when you have those numbers, i’m not talking about OP or UP professions, but ANet must do something to do the other classes more atractive.
I saw Eles tanking 5 or 6 for over 10 minutes. The ele player can be really good player but i don’t think that the others 6 enemies were the worst players ever….
Were their attacks actually hitting? Because it’s impossible for an ele to tank that many players at the same time, except for the span of time their invulnerability skills are up.
.
.
.
Also, in regards to OP,bunker eles are very far from having the best damage.

Almost 15 mins of tanking and running of 6 or more enemies
And here another one where he is fighting around 8 enemies and kill some.
You can check more info in this forums, this player have a thread talking about his build and playstyle. I’m sure he can be a really good player, but i don’t think anybody is able to do something similar with my necro.
Certain Thief and Ele builds are strong. They need adjustment.
In Thief’s case, I need culling fixed first so I can see how much that helps then go from there, though I am fairly certain I know what mechanics need changing.
In Ele’s case it is about the combination of gear, food and such with D/D build(s) that allows for solid damage and the ability to heal and also escape/run.
———————————————————————————————————————
In the grand scheme of WvW, they aren’t all that strong but in 1v1 they are. I don’t think monstrously so, I will say that the thief is much more annoying than greatly OP.
=> ANET should do some tweaking but all devs in all MMOs seem only capable of crippling nerfs. Something I do not understand. Slight modification of a couple abilities can change a build’s dynamic by a noticeable margin yet most devs make changes as if they were just hired and never played the game they are working on.

What I asked was if their attacks were actually hitting. They mostly weren’t. That’s important because avoiding attacks is more so player skill than build (although ele’s higher mobility certainly helps).

I kill Eles just fine on my Warrior, Thief, Guardian, Ranger and Necro.
Of course it must be that those classes I mentioned are terribly OP because there is simply no way I learned to counter Eles and you cannot – it must definitely be an inside issue of the game.
God forbid some people are more skilled than you! It’s the class, the lag, the ping, the hacks, the hardware, the weather, the politicians and aliens of course.
I don’t really think ele is OP, the problem is they have twice more skills than any other class which makes em very versatile, that is the main proble, they can tank, they can escape as faster than anyone else from getting killed (may be only thief can compare in this aspect), if u take them down they can insta go air form and run back where they friends are or inside a tower and get back to battle. They don’t really have strong atack, they don’t really have strong defense, they don’t have the best team support, the problem is having all this posibilities as the same time on their arsenal.
For example a guardian can tank, can support but he cannot run away, if u overun him, take him down he is dead, also they don’t really have strong atack, they have to chose between atack or support/tank.
A warrior can del temenous ammounts of damage more than any other but in order to do that they have to go full glass canon, they have no CC control, no good heals, no good survivavility 2 vs 1 they just can’t do much, glass warrior will just die.
A thief can scape from any kind of situation using stealth, they deal tons of damge aswell, but they have no HP, no armor. Vs a target they cannot 1 shoot they will have to run away or die.
Same with every other class/builds they can do everything better than ele, but at the cost of sacrifice other things, so the problem with ele is the whole class machanic, makes them just good enough at everything, which some ppl would find OP. In my personal opinion Arenanet need to tweek elemetalist biulds a bit making them hit hard sacrificing defense/suvivavility, or harder to kill, sacrificing damage, they just can’t do everything at the same time cuz no other class can.
must be a server thing. Because when I roam I mostly run into other rangers, a butt ton of thiefs, some guardians, or a warrior or two.
Zerg, yeah Ele is all over the zerg scene but roaming, nope haven’t really seen many Eles.
As far as killing, fix your build to counter it harder or pick other targets to attack that your build is more suited for.
There is no one build that can kill everything without itself getting killed by something else.
I’m pretty sure every profession has been accused of being OP at some point. Except maybe Necros, which just means they’ll be next. (When GW1 came out eles were considered too squishy even for PVE and warriors/guardians were OP. Now apparently eles are OP tanks.)
The same happened in GW1. Every month a new profession/build was “OP” and “over-used” and desperately needed to be nerfed because it was ruining the game for everyone else. Then either it was nerfed, someone invented a counter, or people just got bored with it and it switched to another build being accused of exactly the same thing.
It’s the same in Pokemon too for that matter, and probably any game with any sort of PVP.
The only interesting thing about it is that every time there are people like the OP who act as if this is a new problem and completely unique to this profession/build and no one could possibly have concieved of it happening before and if it’s fixed it will never happen again.

It feels like the same garbage in the forums every day. Sure, there might be a good number of eles but I don’t feel the percentages are as skewed as people with an agenda make them out to be. Sure I might be biased because look at my sig – I play an ele. But, I have put most time into my necro and never thought eles were op. if anything, were annoying because we fly around the wvw field like kittenes but we don’t cause that much damage if spec for survival.
At least for me, one of the reasons I love ele is that it is fun to play and you don’t end up just spamming a couple skills
From my necrosis standpoint, some classes could probably use a buff. It does however get kind of old to see thread after thread calling to nerf this class or nerf that class because someone is salty that they died

This.
Fotm build is like fashion trend. One moment, the trend setters (a.k.a. people who know so much about a certain build, and becomes successful using the said build, and sharing it with other people) would say: "This is in, that one is out. And everyone will follow suit. And the more people follow suit, the more people will notice the good and bad about that trend since heck, everyone is wearing it, who on earth would NOT notice it? And Anet is the fashion police. Once the life of the fotm is drained dry to the point of being a useless piece of crap, another fotm emerges. The next big thing will come around once the current flavor dies. And like fashion, old trends become in again and the cycle continues. You will NEVER see a time when no one will EVER complain about a certain class or build or whatever. This is true for all games. I hope Anet gets this done correctly, but my hopes are not that high though.

I have one and it sucks.
Now you’re talking “pretty balanced” classes… How balanced is it when a warrior can do 17 000 damage with their hardest hitting ability, how balanced it is that a thief can backstab for 14 000 damage while invisible and a necro can at max hit 2700 damage in their lych form as a glass cannon? Elementalist is not the hardest hitting one nor the easiest to play. Stop complaining and pick one up yourself.

Nobody can just stay being hit for 10 mins -.-", not in this game lol. But when you have professions who can do things similars to the video…. i guess there is something wrong.
An ele is killable and i don’t think is really OP, but there are classes that need to improve. Necros, engineers and rangers are a bit low comparated with other classes. Eles and thieves needs a nerf? not really, but other professions need a buff or new mechanics.

Eh, don’t simplify. I think most here have played an OP class and an underpowered one. You can tell from playing when something is strong or weak, and whether it takes skill to pull off. If many players start running the same build, it is because it is strong and also easy to play. In fact, you can balance just by doing a statistical analysis of the player base/chars/builds. It is that simple. Not all players try to min/max but everyone can tell what works and doesn’t work, and will always migrate to what is working best.
What is always nice to see is someone who really understands the game and their class and has a build that is not the norm yet is still very effective.
And a well built GvG PvP group is always great to watch in action. I often find it hard to tell what they are doing to kill and survive since the combat logs are pretty lacking.

While I agree with the intended sentiment of this post, I acknowledge that bunker eles need to have some sort of nerf. I doubt that AoE damage is the real culprit here though. More likely it is the combo of extreme mobility and extreme healing.
Necros, rangers and especially engineers are not really OP at anything though. To speak bluntly, the entire GW2 meta is terribly imbalanced. It’s actually one of the least balanced metas I’ve ever participated in. There are some builds that can negate entire groups (warriors soloing fractals), or attributes of a profession (thief initiative) that are so dominating it’s silly.
That said, the leveling is the best of any MMO. And WvW is perfectly fine as long as you are in a good group.

Before you try to juvenile feline all over my post, have you actually played a full on zerker longbow ranger? I have one. She racks up kills faster than any of my other toons. Even faster than my totally OP thief or dagger/dagger elementalist (‘cept I’m signet/aura rather than arcane/cantrips cuz I’m that much more leetzor).
Or how about a cat-specc’d beastmaster. I have one of those, too. I was making myself giggle in WvW by sending my cat after the people trying to use an arrow cart to keep my guys from getting across a bridge. You’d think after the first three guys died to kitty paws, they’d maybe focus fire on the cat rather than the ranger dancing just out of range. As for the kitty chasing bit…rangers have a plethora of cripples. Pick one.
I haz no snarky comeback for the people-person thing. First, I thought that one was phunny. Second, ’tis true
But here’s my body – So rez me maybe?
the trinity of the game:
Thief= flashstep 1 vs 1 insta ganker + invisibility+ teleports and 25-50% passive speed without the use of swiftness therefore its vitcims cant really run away to heal or whatever after recieving a 7-12k backstab nor chase them as their normal running speed is that of swiftness.
Elementalist=All around damage dealer and mitigator with all its regens passive heals and cleanses has same speed as thiefs wich basically makes them AoE thiefs.
Mesmer:single or multiple targets destroyer as they stack up to 8 Confusion before you can say WTF + can stealth+teleport as well and spawn clones near endlessly making sure the clones take all the damage.
and this summarizes 80% of the WvW population 5% Warriors and 5% Guardians and the rest is random classes .
(edited by Rezzet.3614)
This is laughable… Elementalist has only one playable build and this person wants to nerf it because they aren’t learning their own class right? Seriously? I hate that these are the only posts that seem to be taken seriously be the devs sometimes. Elementalist (along with a few other classes out there… you know who you are) keep getting nerfed when they are already incredibly hard to play well. Those people who play well do so because they are good at it and weren’t spoon fed the entire game with easy classes. Player skill is almost never attributed in cases like these by the accuser.
I hate being disrespectful…
And rezzet, are you saying that eles are comparable to thief because they have more survivability and the smallest fraction of their damage? That’s ludicrous… I’ve never been 1-2 shotted by an ele… ever…
(edited by DaedalusDragon.3754)
Not all players try to min/max but everyone can tell what works and doesn’t work, and will always migrate to what is working best.
THIS. Other ele builds seem subpar in the eyes of most players but there are working builds. However some builds are too specialized to even stand on their own. Majority of successful builds for almost all classes are those that can stand up on their own and does not need some sort of cooperation or dependence on another player or class. And this is what everyone wants to play at the moment. End all, be all sort of thing. And this fotm ele build is successful at it, it does seem to go beyond what is balanced. It can be countered, yes, but I don’t think anyone is daring yet to go beyond the boundaries of their specific classes just to counter the “What’s Hot and Fresh” everyone and their nanny is playing.
And in before anyone says: So you mean I should spec specifically just to counter one build? Then that means that build is OP!!
My reply: It’s not OP. It’s an opportunity for build diversity. However, it does seem that certain builds that hard counter this fotm ele build are still lackluster at the moment maybe that’s why no one tries them out yet. Read: boon ripper builds, confusion build, daze-lock builds.
But well, it’s way easier to qq on forums and cry for nerf than doing all this hard work just to counter the fotm. Ele OP!!!!!!!!!!!!! Q.Q
later. It doesn’t care that I’m there.”
Yes, you are laughable… Obviously you must’ve missed last week’s livestream with Colin Johanson.
Q: Do you find any profession to be out of balance like Ele bunker, roamer, thief one shot combo, mesmer portal?
A: Ele bunker is really strong, on our watchlist
Any other QQ would have a reasonable amount of doubt involving learn 2 play issues or culling or hackusations or whatever. But when a dev has specifically stated that a single build of a certain profession is “on our watchlist”, now it’s time to make fun of QQers QQing about QQers that are actually justifiable. So QQ on everyone except the OP. Because obviously these same people who tells the OP that he’s QQing will QQ when d/d eles do get nerfed and say it was the QQers that nerfed it.

they can still extremely fast in slightly skilled hands its as if you took a thief’s stealth and backstab and instead gave him a bunch of defense and heals.
i myself have an Ele and a Thief. with my thief my surprise attacks take me only 0.4 of a second to down my target, Ele takes me from 2-6 seconds.
