I play a Warrior so I do not know if this is the same across the board but most Warriors only use 1 of our elite skills, Signet of Rage.

Do other classes get pigeonholed into a single elite like Warriors? What Elite skill do you use most on your class?

Engineers get stuck with Supply Crate. Thief has some viable options. I’m not experienced beyond Warrior, Thief, and Engineer.

Mistfire Wolf and racial elite skills are often the only real choice that people get. There are times that I take Mistfire Wolf because it’s the only thing that is useful in a specific character build.

We are Test Group F. (Don’t ask about what happened to the previous Test Groups.)

I wish ele had an Elite signet! Though that may be op with the 30 earth set up where you get the signet passive even when its on cd lol.

Guards all use renewed focus. Most eles use the elemental glyph. Rangers have a choice and can run either entangle or rampage as one. Theives also have a choice but most run dagger storm. As stated all engis use supply crate. Mesmers run either Moa or mass invis. I consider mesmers to have the best and most useful elites in the game by far. Necros are pretty stupid IMO, but all are equally bad good.

I run tornado, elemental glyph, or the grenth racial on my ele.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

LOL, racial elites…..what is this nonsense you speak of? All I see are skill point sinks.

List of “Usable” Elites by Class (As referred to by the general consensus of the community)
Warrior – Signet of Rage, Warbanner
Guardian – Renewed Focus, Tome of Courage (ToW is still under debate)
Engineer – Supply Crate
Ranger – Rampage as One
Thief – Dagger Storm, Basilisk Venom, Thieves Guild
Elementalist – Conjure Fiery Greatsword, Greater Glyph of Elementals (usually PVE only)
Mesmer – Moa Morph, Time Warp
Necromancer – Plague Form, Flesh Golem (usually PVE only), Lich Form

Generally, I’ve found each profession has one good elite. I main an Engi and I completely agree with Wiser (although I do use my asura golems for fun in open world). My ranger only ever uses RaO. Guardian I only used the virtue recharge elite.

I’d love to have either more elites that aren’t so situational or more elites designed around the various builds and playstyles of each profession.

Warrior’s actually have 2 good elites. Battle Standard can be great in group play for a massive damage boost, especially when combined with Banner of Strength and Banner of Discipline. However, Signet of Rage is what one should use most of the time in my opinion

Ranger has Rampage as One and Entangle, both are good. I’d say Rampage is slightly better though

Elementalist, Fiery Greatsword is good for getting around. I don’t use it much, picked it up once and did 9K with the auto-attack on my Warrior though. Tornado would be good if it pulled foes in. I’d say Glyph of Elementals is their best because you can summon a tanky Earth Elemental, a good damage Fire Elemental that gives AoE Might, and Water Elemental with a big heal

Engineer has Supply Crate, though Elixir X is good underwater.

Guardian. I like Tome of Courage, full heal and stuff can be useful. Renewed focus is probably better though I don’t know why I used to hate it

Thief has good elites

Mesmer, Timewarp is definitley their best. Mass invisibility is good for running in dungeons. I don’t know a whole lot about Mesmer though.

Necromancer has 2 good elites. Plague and Lich Form. Plague gives good AoE blind support. Lich Form has a really powerful auto-attack, if I use Blood is Power before entering I get 4-4.5K with the auto-attack

No, really, I use summoned weapons on my ele all the time and I absolutely love them.

As Guardian I’ve always loved Hounds of Balthazar, but then again I spam Spirit Weapons like crazy.

Elona, Land of the Golden Sun….and undead…and poison. The travel brochure lied okay?!

Oh I forgot Hounds of Balth. My husband likes that one. =)

@Groc, see I like tornado specifically because I can push everyone away from me (and my group) and then repeatedly knock them down while my teammates beat on them. Very handy in some situations

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Its ok but it often feels like your wasting it when it only has 15 charges to it where you could set it up to have 25 but once you set up to 25 it feels like its a good idea to have at least one more weapon. I like the hammer but the ranges on it is bad so not that much worth the bow has way too long cd the axe is odd and the shield being the only pull ability ele has is only soso.

Here is my input on Mesmer Elite’s.

Open World/Meta Events: Time Warp
Dungeons: Mass Invisibility and Time Warp
Player vs. Player: Mass Invisibility and Moa Morph; Time Warp was used for stomping, don’t think anyone uses it anymore since it’s at 50% instead of 100%.
World vs. World: Mass Invisibility and Moa Morph; Time Warp was used for stomping, don’t think anyone uses it anymore since it’s at 50% instead of 100%.

Any elementalist would prefer to have a fourth utility skill, or ANY other skill in fact. I’d even take the smack skill from the ‘meat’ environmental weapon, at least it can’t be avoided by walking away at 1/4 speed.

pretty much, cant remember last time I saw a guardian use a tome, and for good reason, they suck. Renewed focus is just so much more useful 99% of the time.

I think the Battle Standard is better than Signet of Rage in most team environments.

Elites are all in this weird place; they originally wanted them to be big game changing skills, but discovered that lead to really bad gameplay. They haven’t really figured out the time / performance curves yet. A lot of the early designs are pretty poor as well. Expect better options in the future.

Did Time Warp stop working on Golems? My mesmer only ran that when I did WvW few months ago. In fact, I still use Time Warp everywhere.

I see a few Guardians using Tome of Courage in group play, saw Tome of Wrath once. Renewed Focus is by far the most common.

Lots of Elementalists running around with Conjure Fiery Greatsword.

And the few Necromancers I notice usually have that big flesh golem or turn into Lich Form.

Yes OP nearly every profession has that issue…

Only one or two elites are worth bothering with per class, every racial elite is for show and useless in any real combat and most elites follow too..
