The way elite skills are designed right now makes them feel more like ultimate abilities from a game like WarCraft 3, rather than elite skills from GW1. I’m not necessarily opposed to this, but I would hope that future additions include skills that might have shorter cooldowns and more varied uses.

For instance, a skill for the Ranger like Escape could exist in GW2 and have a similar functionality compared to GW1 without being overpowered. Something to the effect of: Break stun and gain swiftness, protection, and aegis for 7 seconds. 12-15 second cooldown.

I just got done saying this in another thread, but yeah, elites need to be stronger versions of utility skills that will see use in most fights, instead of these supermoves that really do nothing for your build.

Looking at you, transform elites. Looking at you, summon pet elites. Looking at you, anything with a higher cooldown than 60 seconds.

Don’t get me wrong, those supermoves are fun, it’s just that they’re not useful in every fight, even when they’re ready to be used because you don’t want to waste them.

Except that for most of the elites, they are not ultimate abilities, or super-moves, they are just trash. If these skills were the elites in GW1, I would have left them off my bar and taken something useful in their place. In GW2 I don’t have that option — and I wish to kitten I did.
