Eliteist Gameplay
Maybe you have tried this already, but I usually make my own entry on gw2lfg saying something like “casual run” or “all classes welcome” and I usually have no problem finding people who want to join. Speed runners have a right to demand what they want from their group – most of them do state when they are looking for something specific. Unless you have a game with perfect balance, there will always be classes that are the most optimal, and the speed runners will want to use those exclusively. Fortunately their are plenty of people on gw2 who like a more casual approach, and since you can guest from other servers its relatively easy to find those like minded people.
(almost being literally here, I nearly asleep doing a run and still didn’t mess up)
I belive they said they wanted to avoid situations like this, any class could do any dungeon without issues….doesnt seem that way now does it?
So basically you can do the dungeon in your sleep with any class… Yet you have problem running the dungeon with any class?
I have looked on there Rfd, but honestly I rarely see those posts only “ONLY WARRIOR1!!!” hell even my own guild’s are elitsts so sick of them honestly, I play games to play with what ever guild im in, imo that is the purpose of a guild. When even they said “Sorry you dont have the right build/class for this bye.” just rather ticks me off, then I go to GW2LFG, and find only looking for warriors, just plain sicking, imo. One thing to be rejected by a pug another to be objected by your own guildies and pugs.
@ Laoko: I never said with any class, im sure if I played other class’s I could CoF is easy enough a brain dead chimp could do it with ease. I like playing the races/class’s I enjoy, thats why I picked them, but sadly its not the cookie-cutter type of class that is demanded by groups.
I do cof path 1 with my 8 level 80 everyday without a problem. Stop kidding youself. Your just upset other people is doing 7 minutes warrior run, and in a normal group it’ll take like 15 minutes.
If you don’t like the groups don’t try an join them. So sick of people complaining about the cof p1 farm. Just let it go and don’t join the groups if you don’t like the way they act. Its common sense.
There is probably a relatively small number of players running cof1 over and over again. The run is over so fast that those same players quickly reappear on the lfg site. Same ones over and over again. These are not the players that you are looking for. The players you want are out doing other things and are not even looking at your post on gw2lfg. Try checking in the maps of other zones and LA as well as putting your post stating what you want to do and how you want to or not to do it. There are lots of people playing this game they are just doing other things. You would be a bit funny too if you were running cof1 for the 1000 time. Probably would have been a bit funny before as well.
I was using that as an example sense its the most common use for elistism in the game, I can branch it deeper if you want.
1. TPvP = people requiring at least level 30+, and a certain build
2. Arah P4 (when people use to do it) required a certain build/comp/runes. ect.
So know your facts before you speak “perfection”
Your lucky then Laok, I dont ever see groups that are accepting of others, than the non-cookie-cutters.
I do that at times Slither, I will stay up in CoF’s area, (I rarely in L.A. tired of seeing those lame meme’s quggan ‘jokes’) but ill be honest, I have no ability to wait on things to show up assuming they do, so ill go there wait around 10-15 minutes and see nothing usually, at that time I just say screw it and log off, I practically stopped playing the game at this point, I log in do dailys, do special event stuff, log out, because I don’t feel like leveling a character I find boring to play.
Not inherent to gw2. This exists in practically every game that exists.
In a game where “progression” and “winning” are more cloudy, the more annoying these claims are, I guess.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
That is very true Archon, it is in pretty much ever game, which I expect usually, but considering when they were making the game they said they were going to avoid this. kinda a kick to the face, if you know what I mean.
Sounds like you’ve only been looking for groups, and haven’t tried creating your own. It probably wouldn’t take you more than 10-15 minutes to fill up a group advertised as “causual”. Try it some time.
I don’t agree with the skeptical dungeon team comp that the OP refereed to because never were team comp a problem for me in dungeons (and I’ve ran them all at all levels). But I do believe the class skill mechanics in this game are overly locked-down for each classes, in general the weapon skills gets boring fairly quick; yeah there are traits to modify each skills but soon it gets boring.
Honestly it just feels like the class skills in this game leaves players wanting more but…. last time I check it’s been almost a year now since release and not a single major change done to class skills (only some scaling and putting stat effect changes here and there solely for PvP players).

do you know how fast cof group fill up? try to go gwlfg. Every group is fill in 1 minutes.
Only problem is if you don’t type fast enough every group is fill so fast that it is hard to join.

Yea, but that is outside of their control. They can’t stop people from being kittens and busybodies. There is a report button though.
They’re already tried pretty hard IMO. The fact that gear differences are not large means that diffrence between l33t and ordinary player is not really that huge, and there is very little gated content that shuts people out who want to play a certain way. This means that for the most part even if one were to log out for a few months and come back in that they can won’t really that much of a disadvantage vs someone that grinds all day. Except for high fractals maybe, but that’s just one area of the game and it’s not like one really needs to go beyond a higher level anyways— it’s just the same content with bigger numbers.
Truth is though, some people will always try to find some kind of difference of superiority where none exists. Fortunately, they don’t matter that much in this game.

@rfd, I dont make my own groups, I have in the past, back when dungeons were new because I got tired of waiting….lets just say..not many good experiences… I dont mind running a group once its main, I know all the dungeons in the game and how to do them without glitching/exploiting them… worst come to worst I can always do that, I suppose.
Your not blaming people for not able to find a group, which obviously is very easy. Your just upset other people are elitist.
Stop kidding yourself. Getting a group is so easy. I used to do 50 cof run everyday warriror speed run. Now I do 8 cof run on every class. The time it take to join a group with my warrior or other class is almost the same.

Yeah, sometimes there is an expectation that the starter of the group will be the leader, but I’ve had luck putting things like “first time running X, but experienced with dungeons and willing to take constructive feedback”. I don’t always get a perfect tutor, but usually people are more willing to be patient if they know it’s just a lack of knowledge.
I don’t run into much elitism. I think that’s mostly in Dungeons, where you’re required to create a formal group, and I don’t do much of that. Try stuff other than dungeons when elitism starts making you a little wacko. Or as was also suggested, announce “casual” ahead of time and/or play with friends/guildies.

@ Archon: All good points, except for your last line, personally I find that statement wrong.
It is true it beyond there control really to say what can and cant be allowed in terms of grouping, yes, and gear is quite balanced, in terms of 80 to 80 exotic armor’s, and other than jumping puzzels (im awful at by the way) in the open world part of the game, its pretty much do as you wish, I have no complaints about open-world type things, its the group-type stuff I have issues with….and other than afew skins or maybe some mini’s you missed out on you can quite and return after a month or two without any issues, yes.
My disagreement: It does matter, to a cetrain degree when that superiority effects your own goals in the game, CoF is the fastest way to make money, (although the most boring) true me, if the anti-farming code didnt smack you faster than a fat kid after a piece of cake, id happily farm all my T6 stuff, and get my legendary and go “WOO~” then throw it into my bank.
@Hamfast: I would play with my own guild(s) expect they do the elistist way to everything as well…and I tried different guilds but none of them seem to be remotely what im after, I dont consider myself a casual player, trust me, I love hard content, back when I played WoW or something, I loved going into new boss’ fights in raids, because it was a challange, (yes I know, that one the biggest eliest games I can name), reguardless, but I cant tollerate your own guild banning you from doing something just because your not the right stuff for it.
This all stems from CoF and the Zerk mentality.
If CoF ever gets nerfed…
And dungeons/pve require other builds to be successful (ie truly challenging content that requires forward thinking)…
And the new LFG tool doesnt allow a player set title…
Then i believe the problem will become less apparent.
The worst thing anet could do is to leave CoF alone and allow players to create LFG groups entitled ‘Cof p1 – LF3M Zerk Warriors + experienced elite kittenheads only, must complete dungeon 30 secs after normal groups or l2p noobs’.

Rimu, I hope you’re having issues only finding a group with cof1.
You have to understand that some people doing speedruns want to clear them as fast as possible to do more runs in the time they spend. Even a two minutes delay is a lot: if a standard speedrun takes 6:30 the group will be able to do nine runs in a hour, if it takes 8:30 they will able to run it only seven times, making less gold. Some people play speedruns for several hours straight, so they will lose even more if they get two minutes late every run.
I am against class elitism in general, but I can understand why some people will take only certain classes, I respect their decision and won’t get angry if they refuse to take my dotter in their runs.
For general dungeon runs, some classes are misunderstood. For example, it is generally believed that thief and ranger perform badly in dungeons. Playing thief, I can say they are wrong. These misunderstandings born because these classes are generally badly played in dungeons, like thieves sticking with P/P and spamming unload without doing anything else. Truth is, thief is a great class if used well.
Hence, people that won’t take you because of your class are generally wrong except for cof1 speedrunning. This being said, it’s their choice and I respect it, I’m sorry if this is ruining your experience with the game.
You could try to find some other dungeon groups. TA is easy and lends good rewards due to onix drops. CoE 1 is also easy and crops charged cores, while CoE 2&3 are easy IF you know what you’re doing.

There have been numerous threads about this in the last couple of months/weeks. It has been an annoying issue created by a narrow subset of players within GW2 that have imported a different playstyle which is not the norm.
(Please note: “elitism” does not mean “elite”. There is a wide chasm between “skill” and mature behavior regarding same, which many “elitist” players do not comprehend.)
“Elitist” players are a very very small minority of players, who have imported a learned behavior from previous MMOs. That behavior is at odds with GW’s community-oriented gameplay.
“Elitist” players are not the norm for GW2 as a whole. Contrary to other MMOs, these players in GW2 exist only in a tiny sub-culture. They only impact the game if other (regular) players accept or tolerate their behavior beyond the immediate “elitist” cliques. The LFG site seems to be the place they gather, and hence are usually easily identified. And avoided.
Their behavior looks more pervasive than it actually is if you happen to be someone trying to get into the dungeon they prefer. It’s annoying, and can be avoided for the most part. Granted, there are some guilds and some groups out there that are made up of griefers. That, unfortunately is standard in any MMO, and any egregious violation of ToS allowed behavior should be reported to ANet via an email to support.
Best way to avoid these atypical players is by (1) creating your own groups, (2) only playing with like-minded players from either the LFG web site or your friend’s list who affirm GW2’s standard culture, and/or (3) only play with guildmates.
Sorry if there has been a struggle getting into or finding groups if that is the case.
Hope you have better luck with the majority of the player base.

I have characters specifically for different types of farming, be it open world or dungeons. Extra exotic weapons for bonus sigil damage. I have spent time and money on that part of the game to make it as efficient as possible when I take the time out to do it. Is it such a crime to want to play with others who have shown the same level of dedication? Why should I spend all that time and effort only to play through with a slow party, it would be pointless
I run a WvW guild. You apply to my guild with a CoF zerker warrior and you’re going to get laughed out the door. Same way I would expect to be laughed out of a farming group with my tanky WvW specced characters.
I wouldn’t label either past time elitist, it’s simply being efficient.
