Hey!

3-4 days ago I was farming karma in Ember Bay at a particular spot. Thing is,when I got there this necromancer guy just stood there. Still. I tried inviting him to party as I thought he might’ve been farming as well and well, why not do it together?

He never declined or accepted so after a while I didn’t bother with it. I declined. And so I farmed…for hours. Still, that guy never moved an inch. He just stood there with his minions and using Greatsword skill 4 whenever it was off cooldown.

Then I thought maybe he’s set up a bot and it has somehow malfunctioned and just bugged, standing there, doing nothing.

This was 3-4 days ago. Today I figured I’d farm some more karma and…lo and behold, that guy still stands there at the exact same spot…still doing his thing, letting the minions aggro and kill any mobs who spawn while using Greatsword 4 once in a while.

I wouldn’t normally be making a forum post for this but…I did report him for botting first time I saw him but he’s still here.

lol

Here’s a recent Dev post about botters: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Accused-of-a-Botter-Movements-Harrased/first#post6548575

Though, probably an AFK farmer.

Good luck.

The really weird thing is it seems Anet doesn’t care about AFK farmers, and yet many people have recently resorted to using scripts to make them semi-randomly cast a variety of skills so as to appear not AFK. From apparently not bannable offense to blatantly bannable offense and it’s not even remotely convincing that it’s not a bot. Very weird.

Yeah. This guy is….I mean, when you stand in the same spot for several days there’s no question that you’re NOT running a bot. It’s hilarious lol.

And to think that the guy in question is from such a prominent guild as well…I’m disappointed, really.

Really weird thing is that despite ANet repeatedly pointing out that they do care and explaining why we are never likely to see immediate results of a report, some people keep thinking otherwise.

According to Chris Cleary, Game Security Lead

  1. [We] do investigate player reports for every issue. Sometimes these investigations can take some time, and we may choose to action in bulk rather than individually.
  2. Harassment of any type is NOT OK. If you believe someone is not playing fair, please use the report feature. It not only helps us track the issue, but also helps us identify possible hotspot issues. Even [if the accused] has been …actioned multiple times for using 3rd party tools, there are better ways to handle this.
  3. [On 7 April] we took action against a number of accounts that were involved in running 3rd party tools to automate gameplay. These “bots” create an unfair game experience for everyone and can cause a toxic atmosphere both in-game and out (as we see in this thread). We will continue to do our best to keep the game fair for everyone.

Here are the best ways to report another player:

  • In-Game Player Reporting
  • Email exploits@arena.net
  • Customer Support Ticket

quoter’s note: I moved the ‘best ways’ to the bottom (to be more easily seen) & changed a definite statement about a specific person to be a generic conditional about ANet’s policies.

tl;dr report & move on.

Yeah, I’m really, really thinking FFXIV were on the money, when they have “news” that has numbers like this:

FFXIV News Post

Time Period: Mar. 30, 2017 to Apr. 5, 2017

?Participation in RMT/illicit activity
??Accounts receiving permanent ban: 26,062
??Accounts receiving temporary ban: 17
?RMT Advertising
??Accounts receiving permanent ban: 61

Like, just putting out a monthly number like that up means that players have a sense of just how much action is actually being taken, without the agony of “individual action details” or anything.

I’m sure that over in the FFXIV forums I can find discussions of how SE are making up the numbers, because <some reason>, but … at least it’s a more interesting discussion?

I know they care about the new script AFK farmers. I don’t think they care about AFK farmers though. You see the same guys doing it for years so the window for caring has sort of… there isn’t one, they don’t care.

The new script AFK farmers I suspect will be banned within like 4 months (still way too slow but whatever). That was my point.

They say they do. They say that they take action against this regularly. Why are you so convinced that they don’t.

You see the same guys doing it for years so the window for caring has sort of… there isn’t one, they don’t care.

You really don’t see anyone farming illegally for years.

You keep insisting that it’s some massive issue that needs a specific and immediate response. ANet says, no, it’s not that important in its economic impact, it doesn’t happen as often as people think, and many accused of AFK farming aren’t AFK.

Agree with ill-conceived, especially on his last point.
I know a lot of people who do this, but they ARE AFK and they DO get kicked out after a certain period of time. Don’t know any player who actually bots it. After an hour, the game kicks them off and that’s the end of that.

If I do it (it’s a waste on electricity costs IMO, might as well buy gems/gold, lol), I sometimes come back to the PC, chat with friends/guilds, check TP or whatever and keep myself off AFK status.

I don’t believe it’s a big issue, because you get nicer, more relevant loot from playing the game normally anyways. It’s also not an economy-imbalancer like ML was (remember ecto prices?) and therefore, isn’t worth their limited resources in nerfing/paying attention to. They have LOOOADS more pressing issues right now – especially with LFG, Fractal problems and PvP seasoned DCs etc.
