Hey everyone!

Like some of you, I’m just starting working on my design for the emblem contest. I’m having some trouble and I noticed there aren’t a lot of forum posts where I can find help (at least not showing up in the search results). Anyway, how about we make a post to get technical help with the contest, like using Photoshop?

For me, I can’t get the texture layers to display on my designs. The instructions say to just ‘paint’ them on, but nothing I do to the layers is getting them to display. What do I have to do to the Photoshop template to get them to display? Thanks!

Hey Sam! Have you found an answer for your question yet? If not, I hope this helps you out!

When they say “paint it on” they mean paint it onto the layer mask. Basically when a layer mask is applied onto a layer, or group in this case, a little white square or rectangle pops up onto the layer. Wherever you paint black onto that rectangle, part of the layer gets hidden.

See the textures group? They already painted it all black so nothing in the group is actually visable. All you have to do is select the rectangle (make sure it’s selected or else you’ll be painting on something else!) and paint white wherever you want the textures to be put onto your emblem. When you’re done, you can select which texture you want on it by clicking the eye icon. And don’t forget you can use the opacity in the upper right hand corner of the layer window to adjust how strong or weak you want to texture to appear!

Also, if you want the texture on your entire emblem, it might be easier to use the magic wand tool to select everything on your emblem layer and then going back to the layer mask and use the paint bucket tool to fill in white to the selection. If that didn’t make sense, then forget I said anything XD

Hopefully that was clear. If not, feel free to ask more questions. Good luck on your submission!
