Uri Nightshade – 50ish Thief
Sarugaki Hiyori – 80 Warrior – Blackgate [FEAR]

I dont know the rules on emote spamming. I dont know how most players feel about it. But if it isnt bannable, it should be.
Earlier I was trying to talk to a few people in map chat about this week’s WvW on blackgate. Just wandering around Lions Arch and chatting, as I tend to do. Anyway, 3 people from my server start spamming emotes, not at anyone in particular, just spamming for spamming’s sake. The chat screen was scrolling so fast, having a conversation was downright impossible. I asked them to stop and was told to turn off my emote filter on the chat screen. Here’s the thing: I shouldn’t have to. Nobody should have to turn off a feature of the game because people are using it to annoy others.
I’m sure there are people thinking that me asking for bans for people spamming emotes is a bit harsh or an overreaction. Maybe you’re right. All I know is, that when people are spamming, it is impossible to have a conversation. You cant even try to scroll up in chat to see what you missed because the chat is scrolling so fast. Its disruptive and immature.

edit – I made my chat log as big as i could. If i were to scroll up to the top of chat in that pic, all you’d see is the same thing. If I were to speak in chat, what I typed would be pushed off the chat screen within a second.

there’s a certain zerg guild in borlis pass that likes to spam emotes near the portals near reset.
although it helps i guess that they seem to be bleeding active members extremely quickly and so the emotes spam isn’t so intense as it once was.
and i mean like 50 people spamming the same dance or sit or kneel emote over and over again over the span of an hour leading up to resets.
Just playing devil’s advocate here. I know the spam can get annoying, but… They could argue that they are enjoying the game their own way and shouldn’t be banned or have to quit just because you don’t want to utilize one of your game features and turn off emotes for a while.
That said, I really wish they’d stop. Its very inconsiderate.
Could turn off off emotes from the chat log as well. What I did anyway.
You can turn off emotes clicking the arrow next to [Main] and clicking Emotes. Job done.
Sure, you can turn off emotes, but this is cleary trolling. Just report him ingame for spamming and let Anet decide how they want to handle him.
Ummm… Block them?
Why should they stop using a feature of the game just for you? Actually, why do you even have emotes on in your main chat in the first place? If you plan to talk, have a tab that filters out anything that disrupts it. I have 3 tabs; 1 for general /map and /say, 1 for /guild, and the other for random battle stuff and emotes.

There’s a difference between using a game feature and abusing it to annoy other people. Emotes should follow the same rules as the chat filter stopping you spamming.
Why should anybody have to make a separate tab just to filter their chats out?
You can just block people or turn off the emote chat.
Or you can report for spamming, if you want to.
Arenanet will get the chat logs.
If Arenanet thinks that it’s bad enough the person you reported will probably get a 3 day ban.
If they think it’s not ban-worthy they’ll still realize why you reported them and nothing happens.
There’s a bug where blocking people doesn’t stop them from broadcasting emotes.

Hi. Maybe you missed the part in my original post about how people shouldn’t have to disable a feature of the game because a few immature players think its funny to annoy people.
Re-read that last part again. Any way that people try to justify their actions, it all comes back to what I just typed. Immature players who think its funny to annoy other players.
Why should I have to change anything? I’m not trying to annoy people. I’m not trying to ruin chat for the people around me.
You really shouldnt act like its okay for players to be inconsiderate to other players. There is no justification for being inconsiderate. Unless you are the type of person who is proud of the fact that you get to be a jerk and get away with it.
You can make multiple chat windows with different filters on them.
I have the standard one, but usually run with one that turns off /map /say and /emote. The game plays much better that way. I still see chat bubble if someone’s in my field of view, and am mostly insulated from people who’d otherwise annoy.
Sinister, the proper response is to block and report them, just like any other spammer. I don’t really see why you’d react to this differently than any other sort of spammer, like chat spam and gold sellers. If ANet didn’t expect you to “change anything”, they needn’t have given you a block feature. It’s called being proactive.
On the other hand, if what Eveningstar says is true, and blocking doesn’t filter out somebody’s emotes, that IS a problem and should be addressed ASAP!
