Empty Squad Debuff
…. um, why? This seems completely pointless, and just like empty complaining on your part.

Only if anyone not tagged up gets a debuff that sets their max hp to 1.
Aww, did someone forget to buy the tag whilst it was still 100g ?

Are you suggesting that “tagging up” when not needed is anything other than obnoxiously annoying to every other serious player in the zone? That would make you part of the actual problem….

No….I bought one….I just don’t see the need to add mine to the 40 other ones on the open world map…..neither should you.

What in the world. So actual useful uses of it, such as tagging up to show where a world event is, where to gather for a portal to help with Jumping Puzzles, having people gather to a point, etc., would be detrimental to the player who wishes to be helpful? Why? I hardly see it being overused, it was only excessive just as the patch went live and everyone ran around with their Skittles tags. After that I haven’t seen it being used annoyingly.

“When not needed” is up for debate. I tag up every time I see an event in a map zone and am participating in it. Some people would find that unnecessary, but I do it to draw attention to currently-running events.

Well to be fair the op prolly feels like many people these days. Commander tags are used now more as vanity items then for what they where intended for. I (seriosly) see a lot of chars that are tagged up and even coloured like the tag´s colour just doing solo stuff or countless tags at the world boss runs that do nothing but cover the minimap with useless information and also cover up stuff like gathering nodes, poi and pretty much everything else you MIGHT want to see. Also in wvw (especially EOTM) you could make a drinking game of how many people ask who the “real” commander is… but then again you would be dead in 15 mins. As a player you cant do much against it, to ask to tag down falls on deaf ears, raging doesnt fix it either (obviosly). I myself own a tag since a while, a bit before the first feature patch and while im not really sure why i own it (i suck at commanding) but i do admit tags do got their use outside of WVW for sure.. like if you find something and tag up to give other players on the map the location, specially helpfull if you run across a bounty or chest or something valuable… but a tag is a tag.. and NOT a darn vanity item. Many people think that way, people want to see their map.. and not an easter basket and to join a squard still got one useless tag on your map. The op´s idea is a bit..extreme but i guess he would settle (like many others) on an option to blend the tag out completely via the options menu or a chat command or something. Though.. that potato sack outfit would be for sure funny to look at aswell XD
I’ve never used my commander tag when I’m not helping people focus their efforts. Whenever I use the tag, I don’t bother inviting people to the squad since the squad size is too small, so I still need to use Guild/Map/Local anyways and having a squad doesn’t offer any benefits that having a bunch of people around you cooperating with their respective parties didn’t offer.
Now, why would I want to look like a potato? Not to mention that no stats makes killing stuff harder.
