My main frustration with Gw2 , is the population . Some zones have no living souls in them , And some dungeons u wait over 40 min to set up a party . I tried guesting on a Very High traffic server and the difference was mild . I hate that I’m shouting for over half a hour in a zone for a champion event, and having no reply or no living soul in sight.
The world is amazing but I’m getting bored playing in solo player rpg .

I wish some servers would be dissolved , and merged together .
I don’t know how it is in USA , but in Eu its not a pretty sight .

Maybe try going to those servers with people posting about their server being too crowded. Or try the Players helping Players subforum. I am not sure. I usually see people, from a few to a lot, on my server. And I’m on what is supposedly one of the worst. Lol.

Just this evening:

  • WvW
  • Shadow Behemoth
  • Shatterer

But if you’re used to old school games you might be looking for quest hubs where players hang out. In GW2 it’s different since there are no quests, players go to events instead.

Stop hanging out in the middle of nowhere, expecting the action to come to you. Go to LA and watch for player-made champ events, etc. Or… gasp make your own!

For the size of the zone is not allot . The best populated zone and lively zone is Queensdale for sure ,but id wish at least half of Queensdale population would be in other zones. Caldeon forest , i spend in a weekend over 1 hr looking for people to do TA dungeon .

Use gw2lfg.com for dungeon groups, no one uses map chat for that.

http://gw2lfg.com/

Seriously, almost 7 million dungeon groups have formed with that site in the few short months it’s been up. Takes less than 2 minutes usually to get a group for anything.

IMHO, open world in GW2 is essentially designed for solo play and sometimes for “mass solo” play (aka zerg play). You’re looking in the wrong place for group play. Currently, the best way to find groups is to use one of the web-based LFG tools like gw2lfg.com. That (hopefully) will change tomorrow with a patch that will include an LFG tool inside GW2.

BTW, unless the champion has a “[group]” event tag, it can be solo’d by an experienced player with any class. Some classes do have it a LOT easier in that respect, though. I’ve watched my ranger’s pet solo a champion once — didn’t help it at all, just watched. I’m saying this not to make you feel unskilled, but rather to let you know what’s possible, so that you can perhaps do it yourself. ^^

There will never be players spread across the land like so much peanut butter, not in this game, not in any other.

Whether through perceived or real differences in both difficulty and ease of access,
players will gravitate to the most efficient spots.

For instance, if every single mob in the game dropped the same level of loot, people would just walk outside Lion’s Arch and farm Fireflys in Gendarren Fields. If there is one more hill to go around or one more fence to hop, players will take the shorter, easier route.

Conversely, if there is a huge, screaming, gloriously evil boss shooting up from the swamp or a screeching dragon swooping down on a hillside, everyone in the area will converge to see the show, play with the other players and get a chance at some fat lootz. This is FUN. For some reason you think this is a bad thing, that players should stay spread out and not congregate at these big showy events. It’s as if you don’t understand the point of the game.

Just because there isn’t some player standing by some lonely tree in Timberline Falls waiting for you to come along and play with them doesn’t mean the game has an issue. There are millions of people playing this game, you can choose to play with them if you like, run with a buddy or two or join a guild.

Then let me say it another way The world is to huge for the population. Yea Shadow behemoth , troll , Queensdale in total , its awesome cause its vastly populated . But like some1 said above , Snowden Drifts and other mid level zones , there is a handfull of people at peak hours .
Someone else mentioned the Group champion event . Yea , there are a ton of big kitten champions and chain events like Behemonth in other zones , But they are rarely triggered due to low population in those zones.

On my hike to make 100 % map completion i was amazed when i discovered Fields of ruin , Its such a secluded mid level zone , and i took it simply as undeveloped zone before. Even so , upon exploring it , i found every event on that map untouched , not even 1 person exploring it . And it was in the afternoon on the weekends also .

Oh , a lot of people mentioned Behemoth and Shatered as attracting crowds due to the “show” they put on. The fun fact there are other big champs in other maps that put on a show but no one attends them

I personally like it the way it is…. I hate going to busy places. It’s not a wilderness if there are a hundred people also there with you. Towns is where the business should be. But in the wilderness it should feel empty, with you only occasionally wandering upon another adventurer.

I know how you feel. when I play I rarely see other players in most of the zones I roam around. When I do see people they are either soloing, farming champs, or doing the invasion scenarios. You can stand in lions arch all day asking for a group or people to run a dungeon without getting results. Hopefully the lfg tool will ease a lot of these problems.

Not if that server is no longer there. I am asking…where does one’s WvW affiliation lie, if all the servers have become one? Who do you fight against? If there are only 3 servers, the matchup would be a bit stagnant, no? Should there be 6? Still might be stagnant? 9? 12? How many is too many? How many is not enough? I’m thinking the devs thought about this when they created servers in the first place. Just maybe.

Which mythical game has dozens of people in every single area?

In which mythical game are you leveling and you have a dozen players by you doing the same quests in a cooperative way?

Every day I play, even in remote areas I’ll always have a few moments where I’m playing alongside a few other players, doing an event or killing a champion – that is more cooperative play per day than I have in months of other MMORPGs while leveling.

Ascended items are Anet biggest mistake and a kneejerk reaction.

There can still be World labels for that. Just have to get rid of the bonuses from winning that bleed into regular PvE (which never should have been there in the first place – having PvP affect the PvE world wasn’t good in GW:Factions, it’s not good here).

Umm ya I cant do popular events without getting tossed in overflow, so we group up and someone goes ahead of time to secure a spot in the zone….
Some screens from this week and last week….. the worlds aren’t empty. Alot of people level in WvW, alot of people do just spvp, alot do crafting to level…..and the average time in an area is rather low since you level so fast in this game.

Also even in games like WoW where you apparently have 10 million subs. you wont see a single soul in the leveling areas almost EVER. Only will you see farmers or bots. You dont see people until you are very high level there in that game. GW2 does a pretty good job of keeping “some” life in other zones.

Only true as of Cataclysm and its implementation of extensive phasing (meaning you mostly only saw, after 1-10, people on the same quests as you) and the deliberate funneling of people to Stormwind and Orgrimmar.

I mean really, how many people are you expecting to just sit around in zones semi-afk FOR YOU?
Just go to LA and ask in map chat, using that and the lfg tool I found story mode groups for ALL of the dungeons in less than 10 minutes.
Don’t blame the game because you didn’t put any thought into except to “run around the zone its in hoping people want to run that dungeon”.

Usually it’s quite empty. However, the other day I was there and saw a line of people running. I thought there was an invasion in the area I didn’t know about. It turns out the zerg was on the champion ogre. I got two champion drops and a chest loot out of the deal. There were more people there than I’ve ever seen in Fields of Ruin ever.

Karizee I don’t see how your pictures add anything to the conversation. We all know the game funnels players to certain areas of the map. So I am not sure what posting pictures of 60-70 people proves. And even if your server is packed, it doesn’t mean everyone’s server is the same.

Also, your 7 million LFG calls is meaningless. If 150,000 players did 3 dungeons a week for 5 months it would be about 9 million groups. So I still don’t see the point you were trying to show.

Here is the point, the game is one year old and there has been a decrease in activity/population and the population especially in the lower levels (below 75) are pretty much dead. This might not be bad for players already level 80 but it sucks for new players. I know people that quit because they felt they were playing a solo game. GW2 leveling for me was 20 times more fun in a group.

If an MMO is going to survive it needs to constantly bring new players into the game. My suggesting is creating what others have suggested, a “downflow” server. It does make sense, basically if there are a few players on a certain map, put others in the same map. So they can experience an MMO with other players.

WoW saw this as a huge issue and put a lot of resources into it. Which is why they now have something called “Connected Realms” (nice word for server merges), and after that feature you will see players in every zone every level. Games like the Elder Scrolls MMO also with their servers do something similar.

I hope ANet does something to address the situation because something needs to be done.

I think that maybe I did not explain myself well enough, servers would become “teams” for wvw. They can suss out the details afterwards, the devs are smart people.
