Hello there.

Was fun in the beginning. Lots of players on all servers.
With the free transfers, lots of players moved to higher populated servers or just because another server used to hold more WvW points (my guess)

For me at least, on server Vabbi, it is not unusual to roam most maps and during that time to find only a handful of players. I say a handful, but I am thinking 1-2 players, if I am lucky.

Should we all gather gold and exchange it for Gems so we can also transfer to a more populated server in the hope of maybe getting a team to do Dungeons or any other “multiplayer” stuff ?
Or maybe Anet should merge some of the low populated servers to give it’s players a richer experience?

If ANet wants us to pay 1800 gems so we can transfer, ok.
But wouldn’t that make, at least for the players bound to the servers in questions, GW2 a single player kind of game?
Will ANet keep up an almost empty server?
Or, after almost all players from one server will migrate to another one, will that server be merged?

I miss seeing lots of players doing events. I feel lonely most of the time I spend in GW2.

Or, maybe it is just my imagination and all other players are playing hide and seek with me?

What is your take on this?

They warned players there will be no free transfers and gave them time to move. You want merge, but what about players who actually like to play on empty servers (it’s not topic about it being stupid on their side or not)?
Personally I don’t want merges, as my server (GH) is medium populated one so I guess they’d “add” some players to it, and we are still getting used to newcommers after last week of free transfers.
In other words: I don’t want random players to be forced on my server, especially if they liked to be on empty one.

Ofc if there wasserver with population being like 5% of the “normal” server I guess ANet will consider merging it, or giving free transfers and closing it, just because of costs – why waste money to keep empty server runing? :P

@edit
Also, 1,8k gems is cost of transfer to the most populated one. If they merged you’d be moved to medium ones (~700 gems).

For everything but WvW just about now there’s guesting. For dungeons you can pug with gw2lfg.com and almost never have a problem finding a group in a reasonable amount of time. From what you described, try guesting. Guest on a larger server and your open world roaming should be more populated. Dungeons arent server restricted so that shouldn’t bea problem either. And like Terkov said, they gave plenty of warning on
freeserver transfers ending and long ago stated they wouldn’t be free forever.

The only multiplayer that comes to mind that is server specific is WvW, which you did not mention interest in doing. Even then, you would be matched to servers hopefully equivalent.

Edit: Typos with typing on tablet haha

I am not talking about how much it costs or about why I did not move when the free transfer was available.
I am talking about what will the left over players do after their server will be almost empty, because the majority of players moved to other servers.
I can’t imagine why on earth would someone want to play on an empty server.
This is a multiplayer game after all.
Third party websites for teams? No thank you.

If you don’t want to use a resource that’s fine, but there’s also the consequence of not reaping the benefits of it since the easiest cross server connection tool. But if you aren’t happy about not being able to find people to dungeon and refusing to use a tool that helps groups and minimizes spam, that’s a personal choice that doesnt make much sense to me.

I’m sure over time servers will balance out. People will flow in and down the road surely Anet might close servers, long down the road, but some people actually like small servers and they can’t (well technically they can) force people to transfer.

And like i said, they implemented guesting which completely solves this issue you are describing, which you completely ignored. Aside from WvW, most issues for multiplayer grouping already have tools to work with.

My server (Arborstone [FR) is dead and empty.

Are you going to do something about this?

The problem is not really about PvE, I still see some other players while doing events – though while guesting I’ve noticed that compared to others, we’re not many.

The problem is about WvW. There are always between zero and three players playing WvW at the same time. Sadly, often zero. From all the week, I don’t remember seeing an ally at all… And I’ve been playing it daily to complete my daily events.

Meanwhile, ennemies are controlling the full map. It’s not only a matter of empty server, it’s also a matter of empty battle…. They have almost no one to fight.

You’re going to say; hey, you just had to use free transfers before guesting comes out – but hey, guesting made it empty. They all rushed on another server during the last week. I was punished for not running away.

Now I miss green names and epic battles in WvW… I miss the catapults and me repairing the doors and the walls of Stonemist Castle…

And no, I won’t pay 1700 gems (~half the game) to go on a good server.

End of the story. Now you can act like Blizzard and sleep on your money until half of your servers die,
Or you actually do something before it’s too late.
WvW can’t live without servers.

I have been a guest on Underworld.
I thought: kitten so this is how Guild Wars 2, the game, should be like?
In Orr, everywhere I looked, players, events with lots of players, places free of undead I have never ever seen free on my Vabbi server.
When someone shouts help!, at least 5 players magically appear and the problem is solved. Try that on a server with low population.
A real pleasure to play.

This is my first time guesting on another server so I think many players that sais: Hey, GW2 sux, I am quitting, etc must have been playing on the wrong server.
Totally different game.

Please ANet, merge some servers and offer your player base the GW2 experience.

And for people that are saying: pay for world transfer or just be a guest:
1. No rewards for Dungeons (tokens)
2. NO WvW bonuses.
3. What happens to those that are left behind on an empty server?
4. Only two transfers every 24H for guesting.
5. No sense of belonging somewhere.

Most MMOs give free transfers from dead servers.
In case a server needs to be closed or is too low pop I believe Anet will give their people a free transfer.

Seriously? They announced that transfers would be paid for months now. If you don’t like empty servers why did you stay there? Vabbi is renowned for being empty for long time and Arborstone has been going downhill before paid transfers as well. Should’ve transferred while it was free simple as that you can’t complain about it now.

The paid transfers are needed for server and especially wvw stability. With guesting now available and cross-realm dungeons the only reason to transfer is WvW so I really don’t think it’s an unfair price to pay.

And as someone mentioned some people like quiet servers.

Glad to see you found a good experience.
1. What? You get dungeon rewards regardless of server.
2. Can’t argue there but I find it so minute and am used to playing cross-server for dungeons that I forget about it.
3. Either they want a small world, haven’t discovered their options, or chose not to adapt I suppose, that’s something they have to take the iniative on
4. I haven’t tinkered with guesting enough to input here beyond knowing the stated
5. There are plenty of multi-server guilds for small communities and I find the game itself is a community and enjoyable. But, if you mean a server pride sort of community, then i could see thay, yes. I found I’ve made friends on differrnt servers and while my home is SBI, I feel apart of the game playing with everyone. The servers are differrnt homes, but it’s one neighborhood. (Maybe a river splitting NA and Euro physically but it’s still one neighborhood)

in my oppinion A-net should make promotion rotation:
transfer to vabbi is free for next 3 days
transfer to … is free for next 3 days
players who use the promotion will receive an 7 days account bound golem banker and mobile trading post… etc.
There are enough players to cover all servers but they stack on t1 servers

I play on Desolation and its packed with people, glad i picked that from day one.
However at the weekend i guested on 2 servers and one of them was Vabbi and to be honest i dont know how people play on there. At Tequatl no-one was there at all and i spent 45 mins in Frostgorge just gathering nodes and stuff all the time Claw of Jormag was up and not a single soul was on the map. On Desolation these Dragons dont last too long there is always 30+ waiting for them and a heck of a lot more once it kicks off
I didnt realise other servers were this bad it was certainly an eyeopener all i can say is why on earth didnt people didnt leave those low servers when they had the chance baffles me.

jade quarry is overpacked imo.

aside from the “quieter middle zones” everything lower or higher is a slightly boring zerg fest.

for me, game is at its best when there isnt enough player to roflstomp everything and that events are “dangerous”.

worst offender;
world boss.
omg….
the dragons are a joke.
i seriously only need to stand still and auto attack.

i feel anet should do overflow/underflow to make the zones have that “right” feel.

Guesting helps out a bit with this but it is preferable to experience the living story on a living server. Knowing it wouldn’t be free forever I made getting to my present server a priority before the cost went into effect. Unfortunately, for those who didn’t there is a price involved. I do hope that they will eventually implement a solution such as instanced zones. A home server identity is nice, but my server is probably heavily guested anyway. Probably better to just solve the problem for everyone. Anet should be commended for solving the player playing with other players successfully problem. In another MMO I played having more people around was seldom desirable.

Gestankfaust, which server are you on and why you do not see the need for merge?
Of course, you are on a populated server, so please, go back to your game and stop writing in forums things you do not know about.

To update my status: bought 1800 gems and transferred to another server.
