In WvW the game itself is a timegate. It already has one at 5 minute cooldown on any capture. In reality it is at least 30 minutes or so. They drop at a low rate.

Also the fact that you actually have to hit the lord.

In addition to that. Getting them from dungeons is the fastest way as long as you are doing a different path. I think ArenaNet made it so that you could make at least one mat(non timegated crafting) a day.

Oh and they also are gated. Just not so much in WvW.

TL;DR the way they are now is fine.

I’m well below 1 star a day right now, but I’ll admit that I’m not hitting dungeons hard. I am trying to get to chests, jumping puzzles, and a few WvW captures every day, but that’s still a pretty big grind and it’s a lot of time invested for just gathering those items. Those open world chests and jumping puzzles don’t really reward me the same way that doing champion slayers and big temple events do. Heck, I don’t even get a free rare from it once per day.

No, I don’t think they’re fine the way they are now. There’s already a nice timegating process into making ascended items via the once per day ore/wood recipes, combined with the time gating to actually gather materials to make all the various tiered components.

It is clear that many players do not like time gated things. Yet complain that it’s too easy to gear a toon etc. For those who don’t have the capital then getting these weapons is a small feat.

If you have the capital to level to 500 (expensive) then making the weapon itself is not difficult at all. You can gather the mats in a few days of fairly casual play, and everything else can be bought fairly cheap from the TP. Took me a week and 1/2 and I wasn’t rushing. Had a guild get an ascended box drop from champion farm, twice now.

Have to say that is a little disheartening lol.

edit: Wanted to add how I got stars, and dragonite ore. I did jumping puzzles park and Queensdale run on 8 lv 80s. Dragonite took me a little longer but I did temple events and other world boss events. Probably faster if I was doing dungeons but haven’t had a group to go with.

Don’t really understand how this is selfish mate. This isn’t about benefiting one player over another. It’s about balance.

There’s no benefit in your suggestion. There is only a desire to kitten everyone equally bad. Though i do agree that it is a kind of balance, it’s not the kind that we’d want.

Getting dragonites and empyreals is already a slow and tedious grind. The only thing that helps is the fact that they are farmable – without it it would be a complete nightmare.

So, i have a counterproposal: let’s cap the daily gain of those mats. After we reduce requirements for vision crystal (say, tenfold).

You get barely enough fragments by properly playing WvW against evenly matched servers. Mileage may vary, a lot.

If you play on a map with no opponents, you can’t recap Camps and Towers. And keep in mind that you don’t get loot if you don’t attack the Supervisors or Lords. You need to be actively involved in WvW point captures to get the rewards.

Constant tower flipping is not something I put on the “farm” scale because it’s just too dependent on other factors. You need to have towers available to actually take. You need to have a group that’s actively taking towers. You need to have enemies who can’t defend those towers. Those same enemies still need to be able to take those towers back later. And you need to make sure you’re able to tag for the Lord kill to get the mats. Even after all that, you still only get 8-10 fragments.

Yes. It’s slow. Especially for the more casual player.

The casual logs in and plays 2 hours of WvW. Camps drop 2 to 4 empyreals, let’s assume the average is 3. To get to 100 empyreal fragments you’d have to cap a minimum of 33 supply camps. That is a camp every 3 minutes and a half.

Towers drop 7 empyreals, thus 14 towers to get 100 empyreals. A tower every 10 minutes.

In short: your figures are way off and empyreals aren’t too easy to obtain in WvW at all.

You want balance and you don’t want people to have a leg up over you for having played longer? Play anything that’s not an RPG.

People will have more levels than you for playing longer. People will have more items than you for playing longer.

People are going to have more mats than you for playing longer. How does time-gating this stuff have ANYTHING to do with balance or fairness?

I just had a vision, let’s gate experience to one level a day, accountwide of course!

I thought the gate was ok for laurels and I was kinda meh for the crystals. Now it’s starting to become more of a checklist. Perhaps there should be one button “Do you want to craft all time gated materials now?” Only if you have the materials of course.

Not something I get upset about, but it’s trending into the wrong direction in my eyes.

It takes a lot of this stuff just to make one refined item.

I think it is mostly fine. Would not mind seeing the empyreal come from champ boxes instead of just bloodstone. I don’t care to do jumping puzzles that often and keeps don’t get taken unless there is a farm.

If it gets changed, great, but I’m not going to have a fit if it doesn’t.

There is already enough time gating in this crafting already, don’t need more.

Well, I would agree, if the time gates weren’t so easily bypassed by the TP.

Can’t get the empyreal fragments or stars off the TP though. Can you buy the vision crystal on the TP? I haven’t looked because I am working on crafting it for myself. One more days jumping puzzle run and I will have enough!

And a camp + tower every 10 minutes is such an unbeliavable number I’m starting to doubt you even play WvW. A well defended tower can take half an hour or more to capture.

We can’t assume that best case scenarios are average. We know each server has to compete with 2 other servers. In doing such they are going to run into resistance. Whether it’s open field fighting, pushing a defense, defending a push, or organizing a rush, many things will elongate the time each camp or tower capture will take.

Maybe I missed it but I don’t really see any so called gate here. People already have ascended weapons. Same holds true with regards to people crafting them. 2 weeks my rear, several guild members are already sporting them with a few having crafted them.

So again, where is the gate here? Time in equals reward…

Most are already upset but gave up a long time ago. It is perfectly clear that the development team has a main focus on PvE rewards and content rather than PvP or WvWvW. This is in retrospect to armor and weapon textures of course and percentage of ways to obtain items.

Not on SOR. There’s some tower trading and camp trading here and there, but either the servers are putting up a fight, or we just own everything.

Thus the reason for my opinion on this matter. There are actually some gates in place now, but they are easily bypassed by buying from the TP.

Loot basic chests, each gives 2-4 Empyreal Fragments. If you got some alts it is not overly hard to get the necessary Fragments.

On topic, i don’t think the OP deserves some of the reactions he got in this thread. I can actually understand where his idea comes from, i was surprised myself that Bloodstone and Dragonite Bricks aren’t time-gated. It just wouldn’t change a lot if they were, it would take only a bit longer to craft Ascended weapons.

That only happens if a farm is happening.

Not all servers have one of those farms. Some don’t until week days or friday when the match has already been decided.

With leagues comming up, I think that farming won’t happen as often on several servers except at the end of the week when the match is decided.

I speak for my self and no one else. Only fools believe they speak for a majority.

Dear Colin,

I’m pretty sure the whole idea is to make it easy to get Fragments and Ore in WvW and dungeons because they are having trouble getting people into these areas. Hence, big rewards of stuff you really need. Now, even that won’t get me into a pug dungeon. It might get me back to WvW for a bit. I suck akitten but at least even I can follow a zerg and fight. No skill needed. Big rewards. GW seems to like you to do all parts of the game, they made it and you darn well better get your butt there and play everything. Having no one in the Dungeons to group with is only part of the problem with doing this boring crowd control content. Yes, crowd control content, it gets you off the main maps and into a controlled environment for as set period of time and they don’t have to worry about over crowded servers.

If your not doing WvW or dungeons the dragonite ore and Empyreal Fragments are much harder to get. You will be spending a lot of time looking for real world splendid chests and fighting a few veterans solo to get a chest with a few fragments. Or waiting in LA for a port to a Jumping Puzzle. Or doing the same jumping puzzle over and over again and again for the chest. And don’t try and use a low level who needs the EX for the puzzles only a LEVEL 80 gets the Fragments.

Now Colin, I don’t mind a good jumping puzzle, and there are quite a few I admit I cannot do. They are quite creative and fun but once you’ve done them a few times, really, is that not the definition of insanity. Doing the same thing over and over expecting a different outcome, or the same outcome even more boring.

I got no problem with working to get something. The cool downs are fine. I do have a problem with the fact that you made this wonderful dynamic world and you keep trying to get us out of it and into instances and WvW and PvP and Fractals. Yes, you got to have dungeons and fractals or the WoW maniacs will have a kitten. But who really cares about the WoW maniacs. I don’t or I would still be there as it is cheaper to play. Yes, you can play GW without buying gems but they are so much fun. I don’t even want to know how much I’ve spent on gems but probably about 10 years worth of subscription time on WoW. Check my account if you don’t believe me.

So I may not be your Ideal Target Group to listen to but I am the one buying the gems to finance the ones who don’t buy them. And I want real world dynamic play. Like the Big Karka invasion and Scarlet Invasions and I want some kind of in game scheduler. so I can know when an event is happening. And I don’t want items tied only to dungeons or fractals. There should be redundancy in the currencies and if you can’t get it one place you should be able to get it some where else.
