Right now, the Empyreal Fragments and Dragonite Ore seem to be a little too easy* to get. Capping Towers and Camps in WvW give a lot of Empyreal Fragments, while taking Keeps gives you Dragonite Ore. Then you have World Bosses and Jumping Puzzles that can be farmed daily for these two mats. With all these sources of rare material, it seems to be speeding up the Ascended weapon crafting.

As I understand, Ascended weapons were meant to take a long time to make. Getting from lv 400 to lv 500 Crafting is in itself an expensive task. But once you hit lv 500, you can start making your weapons. Spirit Residue and Mithrillium are already gated, so why not all the other Ascended mats?

In my opinion, there should be some reductions to the drop rates of Empyreal and Dragonite mats. I don’t know if such rare Ascended mats were intended to be that easy* to get. (* easy as in more common that usual)

Yes, just what this game needs! More time-gated stuff! Let’s take a look at all the time-gated stuff Anet has added over the past few months. Dailies, monthlies, crystal shards, laurels, Mega boss chests, crafting materials, and heaven knows what else. I could probably find a list somewhere where there are about 50 time-gated items.

If Anet adds a single time-gated piece of content, I am making my character leap off the tallest cliff in Tyria, leave him dying on the ground, logging out, and uninstalling the game.

Getting the required quantity of Empyreal and Dragonite is easy if you spend 8hr daily on the game.

All time-gating does is stall the hardcore players so the casual players can have time to collect all the mats or the money to buy the mats. Yes, time-gating does bring about a sort of “balance”, but it also infuriates the hardcore players to no end. Seven out of eight of my hardcore friends just quit GW2 because of the time-gating, and many more hardcore players will eventually find the guts to quit, including myself. I foresee most of the hardcore players quitting and all that’ll be left are the casuals. Have fun with that.

Actually, Bloodstone Dust was overly abundant for the farmers who saved up Champ bags go open after the update. To those players who didn’t do that, the current loot amount sorta gives them a chance to catch up to the rest of us. But even then, I would agree that the B Dust is quite common.

As for hardcore players who quit due to gates, that can’t be helped. There will always be the player who wants everything fast, so artificial walls would make them mad. But there’s a flip side to that. I’ll use myself as an example.

Before GW2, and before I was married, I was more of a hardcore gamer in GW1. I pretty much raced to get my GWAMM title, and then 50/50 HoM. I finished all the content of the core game and expansions quickly. At that point, I basically had nothing left to do. I would HoH or run Dhuum runs over and over with my guild. Got mini Dhuum, got the Dhuum Scythe, had more ectos than I knew what to do with. There was nothing left for me, and that’s because I did everything too fast. Then I left the game for a couple of years, only logging in to talk to the guild from time to time.

Gates prevent this from happening. Hardcore gamers who run out of things to do will get bored. If you provide them with something to do, and that something need to take 2 weeks to complete, it forces them to stretch out them gaming. In this sense, gates actually help hardcore gamers.

No ascended were meant to be an in between exotic and legendary. SO taking around 2 weeks to obtain them without purchasing anything is good.

And for pve’ers it takes a while to get emp frags…. 27 paths to be exact

Leave the time gated content for games like Farmville, and what permanent content is there really? i’m still waiting on new classes, more skills, new races, new lands to explore etc, permanent content my kitten..

Nothing in Ascended crafting is “too easy” the whole setup is frustrating and tedious to do..

No ascended were meant to be an in between exotic and legendary. SO taking around 2 weeks to obtain them without purchasing anything is good.

And for pve’ers it takes a while to get emp frags…. 27 paths to be exact

2 weeks is a good thing. But players are able to make theirs in a matter of a few days.

My point to this is that gates are a good thing. Some will agree, some will disagree.

Some time gated material is ok with me. I see the logic in it. But anything more and I get horrible memories of playing Eve Online, waiting and waiting for skills to train to level V. Some players here will know what I’m talking about.

As for the “too easy” part. I disagree. I think it’s fine where it’s at right now.

Empyreal Fragments are a nightmare to get right now. It’s going to take me weeks to get enough and you want to time gate them!?!??!

I do think bloodstone dust needs to be toned down though. I have 20 stacks of the stuff already and that’s after making 50 bricks… I can’t even sell it to a vendor, i’ve taken to just deleting stacks at this point since I don’t want to spend more shards making it.

Guild Wars 2 is not a sequel to the original Guild Wars but merely an alternative story setting.

-1000 this is a horrible selfish post if a player wants to spend his or her whole day or not even sleep gathering mats to craft an item it should be their choice time gating stuff does not Balance anything in fact it punishes hard working players for doing what they are supposed to do in an mmo farm and grind to some extent and you know Play the game they bought and maybe love.

asended does not = Legendary and they do require max level crafting wich is what lvl 500 now? wich for most players that alone will take days and weeks and months for some so theres your “time requirement” you wanted

People will have more levels than you for playing longer. People will have more items than you for playing longer.

you are basically saying we should slow hardworking players because casual players cant play as often as they do wich clearly is punishing some players to benefit others.

as a guy with a short lifespan due to heart issues the last thing i need is to have my games time gated to oblivion because someone lost their internet or couldnt keep up with me ya know i’d like my ascended set and maybe legendary before i die not have my lil brother or son get em for me .

I thought this, until i got back into wvw. I basically do world bosses for an hour, then WVW for an hour. I accumulate roughly 100 of each a day (2 hours play max). This gives me plenty of time to craft my gated ecto xmutes and have all the mats ready to go. Crafting my first dagger when i get home

You missed the real point of gw1 entirely in your post- which was the fantastic pvp environment..

Time gating this stuff is the worst decision ever. Making the materials account bound is also annoying.

Think about people with alts, all nicely fitted out in exotics with one or two ascended bits (time gated by laurels, so not that many, will take another ten years to make all of them for all toons), who now get this crazy time gated rubbish they have to chase- not just once (like the players who only play one toon) but 10 times, 20 times, 30 times, depending on the amount of weapons each toon uses.

Can’t wait for ascended armor to come out, no doubt with yet more time gating.

Anet obviously want everyone to just play one class (character bound wvw..obviously these people never play the game)…

Yeah, I don’t get what this “left behind” nonsense means in GW2. Aside from WvW, your performance isn’t being measured against others. You can do content now just as well as you used to pre-Ascended.

I mean, yeah, obviously it’d be nice to have Ascended gear but I highly doubt you’re suddenly never going to find a way into dungeons.

ITT: “Hardcore” players QQing because they can’t get their ascended weapons fast enough so they can get bored and QQ because they have nothing to work for.

Really though, that’s how I see it. I remember seeing quite a few hardcore players complaining because they had nothing to work for that takes time. And now that you do, you’re QQing? Dear god you people are unsatisfiable.

their rationale being: they want to make each character have a unique sense of progression. Well, guess what ANet? We could care less about our 8 alt’s “sense of progression”. We just don’t want to feel like we’re wasting time re-accumulating all the rank points in WvW.

Funny how you say this after you made your Ascended crap, i agree time gate it more but remove all the Ascended you’ve made first then you can start again with your time gated brethren.

GW1 did have a great PvP system. But after a while, it got stale. It was the same guilds fighting each other with the same builds over and over. The guild I was in then would hold Halls for hours at a time. After a while, it got boring, and then we’d log to let someone else take it. So yes, I agree that there was other things to do in GW1 after maxing out everything there was to max.

But back to the point here. Gates do play a vital role in MMOs. They restrict the availability of content, so that it’s not overwhelming. As I stated earlier, Ascended weapons weren’t meant to be flying off the shelves left and right. They were meant to be the top BiS outside of a Legendary. Over time, the intent was for players to slowly fill the game with them. But as some players have proven time and time again, pure dedication can speed up that process, even with some gates in place.

Months ago when I made my first Legendary, I was uber happy. I rushed to put it together as fast as I could. The gates in place were RNG with Precursors, time with Karma for Obsidans, and then RNG again for Clovers. The progression of the build kept me entertained, but that instantly went away once I finished it. For a couple of days, I had to find something else to sate my interests. Without the gates that were in place, I would have made my Legendary much sooner, even with playing only a couple hours a day.

So honestly, the gates do help, even if you don’t think they do. It prevents the instant gratification, and then instant boredom. It gives the Progression “feeling” that keeps you interested in the game over a longer period of time.

Side note – Anet realized that players are eating up content extremely fast. Remember that Legendary weapons were initially meant to take over a year to build, and we end up finishing it in mere months. There were hardcores who finished it during Beta. That’s part of the reason why we now have bi-weekly updates.

It takes a lot of this stuff just to make one refined item.

I think it is mostly fine. Would not mind seeing the empyreal come from champ boxes instead of just bloodstone. I don’t care to do jumping puzzles that often and keeps don’t get taken unless there is a farm.

If it gets changed, great, but I’m not going to have a fit if it doesn’t.

There is already enough time gating in this crafting already, don’t need more.

I speak for my self and no one else. Only fools believe they speak for a majority.

Well, I would agree, if the time gates weren’t so easily bypassed by the TP.

Would be better if they just removed all the time gating in the first place. Only being able to refine 1 piece per day is silly.

They were meant to take longer. Not necessarily a long time. The time estimate Lindsey gave on the stream was “2 weeks”.

That aside, time gating those things would render the spirit wood, deldrimor ingot and elonian leather pretty much worthless which is the opposite of what they wanted. The entire point of time gating those is so that once you got to lv500 crafting they retain some value even when you are all done with your own ascended weapons.
